I am going in April, meeting a couple of friends there. I will be making my own way from the airport to the hotel (Vdara) so I'd rather not get a cab. I saw on the first page there are shuttles to the strip, after a bit of research it seems they're about $6 one way to the strip, does that sounds about right?

Yes I think Showtime is $7 one way to the Strip Hotels.

The last time I used a shuttle to Mandalay Bay, it took about an hour. Waited 20 minutes for the shuttle, then it stopped at MGM, NYNY, Excalibur, Luxor..and finaly Mandalay. A cab would have only been about $12 more and a lot quicker.

We're flying business on AA on the trans-atlantic flights...our real hope is landing at LAX early enough to have time to use the showers at the Admiral's Club there...we shall see.

The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Just a heads up. If anyone isn't hiring a car but wants a trip to Los Angeles, AA are doing mid week flights 3 times a day for as little as £25 each way.

I've just booked for next year - so excited it's our first trip and it's for DHs 30th birthday :D

I know it's ages away but I needed that much time to save the money up and I knew that would be easier if I booked it and sent the money off every month :o

    So excited :)

Not sure if you don't want to get a cab solo for money reasons or something else ?

I've done both solo -If time isn't important the shuttle is quite nice as you often get a free mini tour of the Strip before you get to your hotel (the glass half empty calls it a longer than wanted journey though). Cabs are quicker and safe-just tell them firmly you don't want the tunnel -and when they tell you there's an RTA and the tunnel will be quicker -just tell them-that's fine-still don't want the tunnel :) Basically $7 versus $12-15. For me often it's worth the extra.

We would take a cab over a shuttle anyday, can't bear the extra waiting, though you're right about the potential for a mini-tour so if you've never been I guess that would be somewhat interesting....still wouldn't take a shuttle even if on my own though...the one time we did (our first trip) it seemed to take forever and after that much travelling all we wanted to do was get to the room, get showered and hit the casino.

Regardless what people do on the way into town, we would never book a return shuttle, too many stories of people being forgotten and after waiting ages jumping into a taxi in a mad panic.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

ok, what now? The only time we have flown business on AA was to Chicago (that time we were upgraded at the gate and spent the next 8 hours thinking 'thank you duchy and stoneman for telling us about the platinum challenge!')...there was an opportunity for ice cream, a little tub of something nice...and (apparently, I wouldn't know as someone DID NOT WAKE ME UP) warm cookies...but sundae cart is a new concept that is most interesting.

  • Got tunnelled for the first time in 4 visits. 31 dollars plus tip to Planet Hollywood. I was at back of van type taxi (3lads) and one of the lads sat up front chatting away to him. Because it hadn't happened before I never felt the need to state "no tunnel". Think next time I'd give say 25dollars and say quickest way to ...

Thanks for the advice on taxi vs shuttle. The reason I'd rather not have gotten a taxi was because of the price but I guess it's not that much more. I don't know, I'll see how I feel when I touch down I guess.

SO EXCITED! I read about that photo op with a million dollars downtown, sounds fantastic, I think I might check that out.
