VALUE FOR MONEYmarsman802 wrote: »I'd appreciate any answer to lozwinter's question - I'm going January as well (deal just too good to turn down I think, £1400 for two, 6nts @ Palazzo and direct flights with BA from LGW and back to LHR). I'm thinking the trip by plane to the grand canyon national park and then the bus tour sounds quite reasonable?
Second question - I'm trying to sort an overseas credit card out and would like to know where I can withdraw cash without paying ATM charges to casinos etc - I'm hoping there's somewhere on the strip that doesn't charge??
many thanks in advance guys!0 -

CASINOSHi all, hoping you can help. I got married in Vegas 10 years ago in January and am hoping to go back for our anniversary, would it be best to book hotel and flights now or after Christmas? Going 21-24th...It's been a long time since I went but I did regret not seeing the Grand Canyon, is it really that bad in January as I was hoping to do it this time!
Also there seems to be lots of hotels, we stayed in the Luxor previously but ideally want the bellagio or another nice hotel ideally a suite but still on a budget (as I'm surprising g my hubby!) any recommendations? The Palazzo looks good...
Thanks in advance.0 -

January is a relatively cheap month to go BUT you have left it very late to get the best prices assuming you are going in a months time.
If it was me I would be looking at prices now and if I found what i thought was a good price, would be booking it.
You could wait until after xmas for a flight sale but it may not include a flight leaving a couple of weeks later.
The Pallazzo is very nice but what is your definition of a suite, Pallazzo rooms are one large room with a sunken lounge area, THE hotel has all suites (ie seperate bedroom and lounge).
When you say you are on a budget..what budget?0 -
VALUE FOR MONEYGuys.
Regulars will know that I took over from Trets as the poster pf this thread being able to amend the first post etc.
Would someone else like to do it next year and maybe amend/update it put it in their own style etc etc.
One thing that maybe needs updating are the GrandCanyon travel tips as the question is asked many times.
Although I do wonder how many people read the first few posts
I will have to work out how to get it to anyone who volunteers, but cant be that hard.0 -
CASINOSIt was a last minute decision otherwise I would have started earlier...youngest will be 6 months so wasn't intending to!
Budget around £1500 for us both, £1700 for something special.
Never stayed in a suite but would you say deluxe room in bellagio would be better tha palazzo?0 -

i'd be more than happy to give it a go, might need the support (for content at least!) of some of the true veterans (i'm only a 3-timer so far!).0 -

We tried to keep to a budget due to the cost of the wedding. Helicopter tours were extremely expensive and limited for what you paid and actually got to see.
After doing a lot of research I decided on Grand Adventure Tours. They are top for 'things to do' in LV on Trip Advisor:

We did the sunset tour and I have to say that is was excellent. It was a very long day (picked up from our hotel at 7am, got back 1am!) but was worth it. Unlimited breakfast included plus lunch at the Canyon and stops at the Hoover Dam and then Route 66.
I think it cost us about £100 each, which was a bargain. Might be worth checking to see if they run winter tours!

Thoroughly recommended. I wouldn't hesitate to go again. It's a long time travelling but you can relax and chat to the group (7 in total for ours), and we had over 4 hours at the Canyon's South Rim.
Edit: Looks like the Winter Sunset Tour is $155

There's also the other 'Walking Tour' which has slightly different times.
Thank you for your reply. I was after some tour company recommendatins as i don't know who to go with and haven't seen many company names mentioned in the thread. I'll definitely check them out.0 -
SHOPPINGI'm just back from Vegas. Completed the 1/2 Marathon.
The weather was fine. I was very comfortable in a teeshirt and cardigan. The sky's were pretty dark, only one really sunny morning. Lots of wind and no rain. Locals were in winter coats.
I think the temperature is relevant to where you are coming from. It was -20C when I left home and going to 69F was wonderful. The weather was supposed to go down to the mid-50s (still balmy in my world).
Stayed at the Venetian in the Venezia tower. Room was fine, overlooked the volcano.
The resort is doing a "Winter in Venice" theme right now. Very pretty. Complete with teflon type ice rink over part of the outdoor canal where you can rent skates.
Will you be getting the Privilege package in that room rate. It's worth $100/night based on double occupancy. Include breakfast, afternoon tea, happy hour and peace and quiet on the 23rd floor.0
