I so nearly booked todays MAN to LAS flight.
Since it has been delayed from 7:30 to 18:45, I am so glad I did not.

I havent read all the details of cancelled /late flights but you may have ended up with a free flight

Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Great stuff Hovis, sounds like a great trip! Was your LA-in-a-day trip an organised one? I know quite a few people who say LA isn't really worth staying in, so to do a day trip sounds quite a good idea, esp if you're taxi'd around the main sights

Yes it was a trip that we booked here in the UK after OH had read up and checked on all the reviews for them. The tour company was called Quality Tours based in LV.Price wise IThink we paid about $160each,as Ididnt pay not sure of the exact amount.Included in that was cold drinks all the way there and back and lunch at Cheesecake Factory in Beverly Hills.
I have to admit Hollywood was a real disappointment to me as I thought it was going to be all glamorous, it was quite the opposite in fact.Beverly Hills was also not what I expected so for me it was enough to spend just the day there.
My son wants to go to LA next year with his family traveling around and have asked me to go too, which I will do as that will be seeing different places again. Will still be doing my annual Vegas trips though aswell!!!

Whilst I appreciate some people might see this as a bonus, for me I would much rather just set off on time (fingers crossed for next Saturday).

I love going on holiday, but the worst part for me is always the wait at the airport. I know it has to be done, but for some reason it does my head in.

Manchester airport website has it as "Go To Gate" at this moment in time. A thread over on TA has a person flying on this flight posting in it :

Thanks but changed plans now wedding in uk and honeymoon in vegas
Priced up some hotel rooms tonight for the 7 day stay in July over July 4th weekend
I've added in the resort fee myself to compare them easier
I'm out of dates on hotel pricing last time I booked I got MGM 40 dollars a day inc free buffet all day and free credit so all seems expensive to me
Have a look though - these resonable or should I wait for nearer the time to secure better based on people's experience?

    Thanks , Daryl

    MGM grand £533
    Aria otel.com £800
    Paris £644
    Palazzo £732
    Signature £800
    Vdara £750
As I said based on 7 days includes resort fee

What type of room are those prices for, just the basic eg Grand Tower King at the MGM?

I don't know about the others, but I can never work out if it's a good rate or not when the prices are given in sterling. For Vegas room I can only work them out in USD.

Will it be just the two of you travelling or are you taking the kids?

If you are booking direct then I would go ahead and book at a rate you are happy with as you can cancel and rebook if something better comes up.

Just had an email from my son, he is enjoying his stay. He did mention how you go about getting free drinks at the bar while playing VP. I explained to him the procedure before he left but said last night it cost him $22.00. I asked what he did, his reply was the he and his mate ordered 2 drinks while playing with $20 each in machine. Drinks came and the bartender put the receipt and pen in a glass in front of him. He thought he had to pay that!!! So the bartender got a $22 tip!
Just goes to show that it can be a bit confusing for first timers. We have been asked a few times while playing what you have to do to get free drinks.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
