VALUE FOR MONEYsecretmachines wrote: »i think though it IS one of those only-in-Vegas things... so a kind of must-do when you're there. i've certainly never experienced anything like them. however i do see it as a novelty thing, and certainly not a MSE way of eating while there. in a week we maybe do one breakfast and one dinner buffet. for us it's a chance to try a whole host of different foods, which you maybe wouldn't give a go any other time - and if you don't like it, just leave it and fetch something you do like
given the amount of food that's prepared and cooked, on such a scale and at such a demand, i think the quality is really impressive. i'm sure there's a huge amount of waste, but that's another discussion.
i can't imagine doing Vegas, and not doing a buffet whilst there... it's just fun
Sorry but have to disagree. If you have a LVA or ACG and only use the 2 for 1 buffet coupons, there is no cheaper way to eat. even without the coupons it can still cheap. We nearly always eat at buffets and very rarely pay the full price.
Stoneman mentions Terribles as bad (it certainly isnt the best) but 2 breakfasts with fresh ommlettes and fresh waffles , both to order with unlimited juice and coffee for about $4 with a bogof so less than £2 each, that is def MSE to me0 -

I agree, buffets can certainly be very cheap, but can also range to expensive and unfortunately the better ones don't have the coupon deals either. I think the buffet can be very worthwhile at 2/1 even if it's not a great buffet. We used to go to the Frontier buffet, $9.99 and a 2/1 so about £3.50 each really. The food wasn't fantastic, but we'd have an orange juice and some perfectly acceptable food. We wouldn't overeat, just have something to keep us going till mid afternoon maybe. We also go out an about using coupons and we enjoy the buffets at Red Rock, Silverton, GVR on 2/1 deals - they are also decent quality but cheaper because they're off strip.
That said, my favourite buffet is champagne brunch at Wynn, and it sets us back around $90 for 2 of us but is very good....and we try to get our money's worth our of the champagne. :rotfl:0 -

I think part of it though is Vegas has this reputation for cheap buffets - sometimes because years ago they were so, SO cheap...I'm sure I remember $1.99 breakfast buffets and $4.99 dinner buffets advertised all over the place on my first trip in 1997...and a lot of people kind of still think that buffets are still really, really cheap, mostly because the myth is perpetuated through word of mouth. I totally agree that with a 2 for 1 some are excellent value...but the top end ones, which I think are the ones stoneman and secretmachines are talking about - will cost as much if not more than a sit-down meal...and some would prefer that to a buffet for that price.
Plus a lot of people don't do any research so don't know how many 2-for-1s are out there.
We have so many restaurants we like that we don't hit many buffets in a trip...but those we do we do like...we won't pay full price for the Cosmo buffet again as while it was good, it fell into that a bit too expensive for a buffet price for us...same with Wynn - comped it was awesome, but full price we'll pass.
Orleans, RR, Silverton and MSS are some of those that are really excellent value with a 2-for-1...even without they are, I think, worth the money.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
SHOWSThere's a world of difference between say the Cosmo buffet and the Orleans in price and presentation. I wouldn't want to eat every meal at either .
Buffets (in both price ranges) can be good value -depending on how you eat. After a lateish buffet breakfast I don't want to eat again til evening so if I've spent $8 at the Orleans on breakfast/lunch and then want say a rubens with side or some chinese at the Victorian rooms in the evening odds are I've spent less than $20 total for the day ..........or I could spend $20 plus on breakfast at a buffet -and then a light meal later.
I usually only eat one main meal a day at home -which is never breakfast but I find a buffet in the evening in Vegas is just too much and leaves me sluggish for the rest of the evening. I'd rather have waiter service for an evening meal anyway.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

VALUE FOR MONEYI agree with all of the above posts re buffets, we also get out and about for cheaper buffets off strip, Silverton comes to mind and Sunset station had $5 breakfast buffets earlier this year so even without a bogof, still great value IMO and very MSE.
When it comes to the high end buffets i agree, the value isnt so good, although again earlier this year we had our first Bellagio buffet, to get the value we got there at 5 to 4 (I think) and paid lunch price for the dinner buffet, which was about $20 eachi have
I also love the Wynn buffet,it tasted so good when the slot club payed for it:D, not so good if i was paying the full dinner price though.0 -
Has anyone had coupons for the Wicked Spoon (Cosmo) buffet? If so, where from?0

FREE ATTRACTIONSI doubt if that will happen. I saw a news report over there a few years ago when the power that be in Clark County were discussing banning them from handing the things out.
They decided against it, because it worked out cheaper for the state to keep them in employment than banning them because a lot of those people would struggle to find work elsewhere and ultimately claim unemployment.
Also the state employs people to clean up after them (although it may change now) We were walking up near the Stardust once and a fella with loads of cards had put huge elastic bands around a lamp post and was shoving cards in them. 30 secs after he left a fella came along and threw them into his pushalong bin. It was quite funny to watch, so even though they are a pain, at least they are actually working.0 -
CASINOSHas anyone had coupons for the Wicked Spoon (Cosmo) buffet? If so, where from? The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0
