Thanks
MFU = Miles for Upgrade, this can only be done if you have booked direct with BA. It should show up in the 'manage my booking' section on the BA site or by calling them direct to find out. This is reckoned to be one of the best ways to use miles, upgrading from WT+ to Club is 12,500 miles each way and you still get the miles for the original booking.
OP/UP = 'Operational Upgrade'. These are done on the day if certain cabins are over booked. Usually done in pecking order depending on your status with the airline and what fare code you are booked in, but sometimes people get lucky. (I've never been on of those lucky ones).

If the BA MFU from WT+ to Club is only 12,500, and is the same as from Premium Economy to Upper Class, that does sound like a bargain. From memory isnt Virgin 20K per class upgraded?
Plus doing it on the day, presumably theres APT tax savings as wellillegitimi non carborundum0 -

Thats when youre sitting in the departures lounge and you hear those magic words "Would Mr and Mrs Froggitt please make themselves known to the staff at the gate", and your paper boarding card suddenly turns into a golden ticket.illegitimi non carborundum0 -

Virgin are also 12,500 miles per leg to the West Coast now. You can also upgrade by more that one cabin on Virgin, i.e. from economy to Upper Class, but this would be 25,000 per leg.
With BA you can only upgrade to the next cabin, i.e. WT+ to Club World. You would not then be able to MFU to First etc.

With Virgin though you have to be booked on certain fare codes to upgrade, with BA virtually any fare can be upgraded.0 -

No tax savings.
You can't upgrade with miles at the airport either with BA. Has to be done online.
MFU is a very good deal, but there has to be Business Award availability to do it - which for LAS can be quite hard to find.0 -

It's the most magical thing in the world when it happens...though if you're like us, you have to try to keep your glee to a minimim given some people have probably paid a lot of money to sit in that cabin so the yee-haws pushing all the buttons and exclaiming 'hey, pa, look at this!' is probably not cool.
only once for us...but we remember it so fondly...we're currently trying to find our best shot at a new Platinum Challenge just to have the (small) hope that it might happen again...the extra free baggage, priority seat selection, priority boarding, etc. are what makes it justifiable...the chance at an upgrade is just icing on the cake if we can find a reasonable way to do it.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
we're struggling with the platinum challenge
got AA flight's in September and in December which combined would see us hit the magical 10,000(?) mile mark required. Unfortunately it doesn't fall within the 3 month timeframe though... we're strongly considering going for the gold challenge though as the baggage alone should be enough to justify it for us (along with the fact your flying partner also receives the perks)0 -
CASINOSAnyone getting an email from Groupon about the bottle service at Cathouse in Luxor be careful. It has been worded that it is unlimited bottles of spirits (one at a time) and all of the mixers. THIS IS NOT TRUE! It is for 1 bottle of spirits. you have to go to the "ask questions" button to find this out. So for $150 + tax and tip on $350 which comes to $230ish you get entry to Cathouse and 1 bottle of spirit and mixers. You have to pay bar rate for anymore bottles.
Not such a good deal now is it.The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -

Unbelievably we did manage to book 2 avios redemption tickets last week in First for December LHR/MIA return.
