I just said - do not take the tunnel ( as advised on here). Very short journey as Vdara is at the airport end of the strip.
Hope you enjoy the Vdara as much as we did. Not sure what room we have booked (ours was the cheapest) but ask for any complimentary upgrades - I blushed for asking but got a great view! we took a travel kettle too (can't cope without a cuppa in morning) and rang down for cups, gowns and slippers when we arrived - ten mins later they arrived. Enjoy.0 -

I feel exactly the same, but might give it a go at Vdara this time... we've booked the basic room (which is still bigger than a lot of other hotel rooms I think). The last couple of times, we've booked good deals to get corner suites.
It strikes me as the kinda place where you just have to be nice and ask... not do the $20 trick.
We know we'll be happy with whatever we get, but no harm in asking I guess!
Silly question, but what exactly did you say when you asked about complementary upgrades?0 -

I'm actually gonna be staying with a friend who already arrived on Monday, so I'm gonna be in whatever room he got! Not sure whether he was savvy enough to ask for an upgrade! I think it will be great no matter what, though.
Hope I don't get stung on the taxi, I'll ask him not to take the tunnel!0 -

Prior to getting there I contemplated the $20 trick but once in the check in line I soon realised that there was no way I would be able to try it without feeling v.uncomfortable. Once the girl had taken my passport and checked the reservation (all pre-paid) I just said, 'do you have any complimentary upgrades available please'. She just said, i have a room on the 44th floor but then said that room had just gone but there was an identical one on the 31st floor. I thanked her and that was that - wasn't sure if we had a view till we got there! If you want a certain room it's worth asking - could be cheeky and ask if a Vdara suite if available (next couple of levels up) but for me the basic room was more than enough and I preferred the good view to more space.0 -

i agree, the space was nice the last couple of times we were there, though a Deluxe will be fine for us, now that we know what to expect. I think last time we did email ahead and ask if we could have a room on the opposite side of the hotel to our first trip, just so we had a different view, and they sorted that for us on arrival - the girl had a note on the system with our request, and sorted us out
may just ask for a fountain view... was it obscured much by the Cosmo?0 -
Wasn't really affected by the Cosmo. Our room was 13010 if that helps? Probably just had the far right corner of the fountains missing (as you look out of the window) but practically a full view - maybe if we were further along the corridor it would have been more obscured by the Cosmo?0
