Daft question alert - is a UK Photo Driving License acceptable as ID in Vegas?
We have been ID'd before going into the Nine Fine Irishmen (we were 30 and 40 at the time!!!) so we carry our passports. When travelling in New England we were told our DLs weren't acceptable as ID because 'they could easily be fakes and nobody would know'. Obviously I would rather leave my passport in the hotel safe if possible.
We've had mixed success...at Harrahs/Caesars properties I've been knocked back just to get a copy of my players card trying to use my UK photocard licence - last trip they refused my US Passport Card too...I was so miffed as the ONLY REASON I got the Passport Card was to use as ID in Vegas rather than carrying my passport around...but she showed me the notice behind their counter that said in no circumstances could it be accepted due to the level of fakes around. Other places not so much trouble.
I'm sure that I read somewhere some time ago that a lot of casinos decided not to accept foreign driving licences as ID...but maybe am making that up...and while I would think that the rules would be the same for gambling and drinking (since the legal age for the 2 is the same), maybe it's not.
We did try taking a colour photocopy of my husband's UK passport and use that as ID, but the two times we tried they handed it straight back and said 'no copies'...though I know some have had more luck than we did.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
VALUE FOR MONEYHappy New Year everyone, feels good to be able to say am off to Vegas this year now!!!!
Just seen this on Facebook about Bellagio adding 3 new songs to the fountains... http://www.lasvegasweekly.com/news/2011/dec/28/bellagio-adds-three-new-songs-its-fountain-attract/
I'm not sure I get the Billie Jean thing...but Lucy in the Sky could be awesome!Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Thanks for that ferf, we will just carry the passports, we have them with us all the time when we are on roadtrips so it is no different really. Hubby read somewhere that you need ID if you win the jackpot on the slots so will need it for when we hit the big bucks
Carl - I think we picked up a 2-4-1 flyer for the Imax in the hotel reception.
MrsRowley - I too would pick Mandalay Bay over Tropicana every time. Although for 9 nights I would try to split the time personally, different parts of the strip just feel so different.please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -

I carry my hubby's passport in my bag most of the time...one night, I was tired and decided to head back to our hotel (Bally's) while hubby continued on playing at Paris...I got back to the room, washed face, took out contacts, changed into jammies and was pottering about in the room...and in huffs hubby stating that he needs his passport as he has won a jackpot over $1100 and has to get back to Paris with his ID...have never gotten dressed again so fast in my life as no way was I missing out on this.So it CAN happen!

Hi ferf, Happy New Year to you and Jamie!
Where was the copy of the passport refused? I use the original passport when checking in at hotels only because I have it on me. The laminated copy has never been refused when used as ID when using a credit card and I use it a lot in Vegas.
The only times a copy has been refused was at check in at Caesars Palace, as we were only there one night and had left the original at the other hotel. Hubby's photo driving licence was accepted though. The other time was trying to open a Total Rewards account at Harrah's.
The copy was also accepted when buying alcohol at a convenience store.0 -
re the hotels and trip advisor, remember these are only people's total impressions, which will include vfm and often budget hotels will show up veru high, just like Premier Inn always seem to do in the UK.
Between those two I would go for Mandalay Bay every time.
However i just stopped in Platinum Suites, which is no 2 or 3 in Tripadvisor, 1100 sq ft suite for a very good price, and I didnt regret not staying on strip, especially as sister was in Bellagio and it could take nearly as long for her to walk through hotel and casino to outside as it did for us to walk the block back. (and the strip view rooms are great!)0 -
I've never had a issue with my driving license for normal ID purposes although often have to point out where the Date of Birth is although I only seem to get asked for ID when Im with other people
Only exception to this is to sign up and/or replace lost players club cards which are a bit different...0 -
The other thing to think about when choosing a Vegas hotel is if you are a non smoker I would definately pick a non smoking hotel over any other hotels. We did one night in the planet hollywood last week, and even though it was a non smoking room you could still smell the smoke and I was really glad we only spent the one night there!! After a day/afternoon/evening in smokey casinos it's lovely to get back to a smoke free hotel.0

VALUE FOR MONEYMrs Rowley
I know its been answered but just thought I would add
FORGET tripadvisor and ask on here.
MB is my fav hotel especially if you can get an upgrade at the front desk ($20 trick) to THE Hotel which is part of MB, or check prices for THE Hotel and if they arent much different I would go there as it is all suites.
The pool is the best in Vegas IMO with a beach and waves.
The only negative is its location but again IMO the Trop isnt much better
As someone else said have you thought of changing hotels mid stay.
Say 5nights at MB/THE Hotel and 4 nights in the middle at Caesers/Mirage or Venetion/Wynn a bit further down0
