Flutterbyuk how was the date :kisses2:

Ahem....very well thank you! :D We all had a lovely time, lovely Thai meal, followed by drinks in one of my favourite bars, then onto the casino for more drinks when the bar closed. Got home 4.30am  with company ;). He seems like a lovely lad, although a tad young for me. Not sure if it will happen again or not, but I definitely ended 2011 with a bang! :rotfl:

I am also going to try and give up drinking fizzy pop and swap to water instead. I will do it, I will do it (muttering under my breath).

cranky - I gave up fizzy pop 2 years ago as a dare for lent, and stuck to it well. It was a nightmare to start with and took big restraint going cold turkey. I now drink fizzy water/soda water with squash if I fancy something fizzy. I have the occasional can of pop now if I'm out somewhere where they don't have fizzy water. I'm also joining you back on the diet train, starting Tues!

Another wet and miserable day here. I'm anothor one that's not a fan of NYE. Don't get the hype either, but I am going out to a house party tonight. It's my schoolfriend/colleague's families fancy dress party :). Should be fun. I may consider driving to save on taxis, plus I'm a tad fragile still from last night! But not sure if I fancy a sober NYE....maybe I'll take the car and leave it there if I fancy a drink and just collect it next day.

I may pop over to see my parents and nan today too. There is some mail at my parents that needs collecting and I can wish then happy new year at same time.

OS wise - bedroom needs a little tidy, and need to hoover the kitchen/lounge. May put load in WM too.

Have a fab day all, and happy new year to you all

  • Hi chums at DDs and trying to stop her binning a bendy celery and some softish tomato's.Posted asking what I can turn them into she has onion and stock cube I wonder what celery and tomato soup would be like .

Out tonight celebrating the New Year .As the child of traditional scots parents tonight has always seemed like Christmas to me, as a little girl I was always put to bed and got up at 10.00 for the celebrations. Our family at that time were the only ones in the road who saw the New Year in and all the lights were put on in our house and the windows and doors thrown open and my middle brother turfed out at 11.55 with coal and shortbread in either hand so come the bells he could bring 'heat and food' into the house along with the New Year in the hope that we would never go cold or hungry during the year .My Dad also had a pocket full of pennies and threepenny bits that he would throw into the air for us children to scramble for after 12.00.My Mum would scour the house almost for a week to make sure it was spotless, and no washing or ironing was hanging around. When I was very small we lived in the east end of London and could hear the tug boats and ships on the Thames hooting at 12 o'clock struck. The fact that we could have the whole house lit up after WW2 was so exciting to kids used to darkness and blackout.I still get a tingling feeling as the bells strike even almost 65 years later .Us children would toast the New Year with Stones Ginger Wine and my parents with a glass of the water of life.We would eat dundee cake and shortbread and Mum would play the piano and we would all join in for a singsong.I think our neighbours thought we were barmy but my Dad was firm about our New Year festivities. He would often work on Christmas Day (he had a chemist shop) and would open it up as he wasn't too fussed about it but would never under any circumstances work on New Years day and this was years before it became a bank holiday.I suppose its just what you grow up with I still enjoy Christmas with my family but tonight is still a wee bit special to me as it brings back so many memories of my childhood
So to each and every one of you

and a Happy New Year to you all

We're back from the garden center, hubby's spent all his gift voucher so I'm hoping he'll go & play in his greenhouse for the afternoon & I can sort out the bedrooms as he decided to swap the beds over this morning whilst I was cooking breakfast.

Never made tomato and celery soup, but always make celery soup, which is yum. Never do measurements for it. But for half a celery, I would add a small onion, a medium potato and 750ml of veg stick, plus teaspoon of dill. Maybe she could roast the toms separately?

    Afternoon All!
JackieO your post brought back memories of my own childhood New Years! My parents were Welsh, but they might as well have been Scots at New Year! DH and I don't really bother at all, although we do usually stay up and toast the New Year. In past years we've either gone to friends or entertained for ourselves - but many friends are either with familiy or away this year!
Pennypincher - lovely to see you posting - don't stay away so long this time!
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all OSers!
    Take care of yourselves.

    Afternoon Everyone

Bramble sorry to hear about your Grandad ((hugs))

Lou has DH returned, if not I would be on the phone telling him to get his a$$ back there pdq. Everyone falls out, luckily ours only last until the next cup of coffee when whoever it is makes two.

Pen-Pin Lovely to hear from you, I was asking the other day about yourself and others MIA, would be lovely if they would pop in and say hello.

Busy being entertained and fed here. Weather could be nicer, grey, rain, drizzle, etc., but doesn't stop. The hot meal yesterday was eithr Tomato or Veg. Soup with bread roll and butter, followed by Chicken Breast with the choice of either Mushroom or Tomato and Bacon Sauce, served with New Potatoes, Green Beens and Carrots, followed by Mixed Fruit Strudel with custard or cream. We also had red and white wine provided together with a couple of cans of lager.

Tonight the menu read, Florida Cocktail, Roast Beef or Pork with Yorkshires, Roast Potatoes and Veg, selection of desserts, followed by Cheese and Biscuite, and Bubbly at Midnight. We have a professional DJ for tonight, last night was two girls who did a 70's Song/Disco routine, and then an Abba Routine, they were very good, and the dance floor was full. We have 45 'vans here, so that is at least 90 adults plus a few kids. Wouldn't fancy catering for that number myself. This afternoon we have caravan racing on, but DH has just fell asleep, so I am catching up on here. We leave on the 2nd, watch out for the convoys on the A34 and A43.;) No seriously we are all considerate caravanners, who rarely hold the traffic up, often being blamed when there is a old codger, or old car in front of us holding everyone up, that the traffic cannot see :mad:. Nor do we convoy.:D

Been out this morning into Newbury Tesco Extra, to fill the car with fuel, and found a pair of trousers reduced to £4:T:T Will try to get a photo in our posh frocks and DJ's and put it on FB when I get back.

Better go now as rambled enough.

I used to get the job of first footing as my natural colour was almost black. Had to carry coal for heat/warmth, bread or cakes, for food, bottle of whisky for a drink, and some money in your pocket. Don't remember much house cleaning in Yorkshire though.:o;)

Take care all (((hugs))) all around, have a great NYE, and hope 2012 brings all you wish for. DG
