Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 31st December. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Cuppa & a bowl of porridge here to start the day, I collected hubby from work yesterday so he could bring home all his tools that he's taken to work over the last 2 years, the shed is now bulging at the seams.
I watched Housewife 49 again last night, it's a shame the programme misses out all mention of the way she stretched the rations to make interesting meals & turned scraps of fabric into toys etc for the Red Cross shop.
I have found homes for some of the books I am decluttering, in exchange for a donation to Help for Hero's, I support this charity as my son in law is a serving soldier & is currently in Afghanistan. At school we have 4 'Houses' I asked if mine could support help for hero's & it was agreed so I was very pleased about that. To support my SIL directly I'm making up a shoebox parcel to send him, as soon as one box is sent I'll start another one.
Plans for today include a visit to a local garden center as hubby's tokens are burning a hole in his pocket, the garden center is near my DD's so I'll drop off to bottles of frozen soup for her.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

  • Morning Everyone :)

This morning we are taking down the Christmas Decorations :j

DH is going to do a nice good clean of the house so it's all going to look lovely by tonight :D

OS Wise... White Washing and Bedding Need doing... Bread needs putting on! Not sure if a cake is needed for lunches next week of if I should just try and get rid of all the tins of biscuits we have!

This morning I downloaded an application of my phone... I can type in a shopping list... sync with DH phone and send him shopping! I am very excited about trying this out next week

We need milk again... I am going through 7-8 bottles a week right now! But everything else seems to upset my tummy! When Roo is here my shopping is going to drop drastically (as I eat a LOT of Chicken too!) I am going to start coming WAY under budget :)

Hope everyone has a great day x

    Morning everyone

Love and hugs to those that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Still dark but looks dry underfoot here this morning, although rained really hard last night. DH up but not working today and I'm up had brekkie and a cuppa and am going to work! Don't really mind but couldn't give this one away as no-one wanted it! Only 9-12 noon so not too long. Managed to get the decs etc down yesterday and they are all in boxes waiting to go back in the loft, hopefully DH and boys will do that this morning. We've haven't got tickets etc for any NYE parties etc, am usually away at a caravan rally we helped to organise. I've liked not working all day in a kitchen and being away from home between xmas and new year, wasn't able to have any holiday either and was put on rota to work today so after doing it for 4 years thought this was an appropriate point to hand over to someone else. Collected my car yesterday and did the normal chores of washing, drying but no ironing - need to do that. Went to the bank too and building society, so all the admin type jobs done, now need to get down to being more OS etc.

Hugs to those that want/need them, keep safe and well x

    Morning :hello:

    Bramble th_thhug89.gif

We have to nip out for bread, milk and chicken food later. Mr tru wants to go to town, I do not. I'm waiting for everyone to go back go work and school, it's much quieter then. I hate crowds, HATE 'EM :D

I have an urge to tidy the greenhouses, put new compost down and sort through the pots. They won't have anything growing in them for a while but I like to be ready :D Last year's tomato plants are still in there at the moment :o

    Morning all,

HESTER, What a great idea getting donations for Help the Hero's, a very worthy cause.
BRAMBLE So sorry to hear about your DGDad ((((hugs Hun ))))
JULIEG Not long now eh ?

DD2 came here y/day with DGD 2 & 3. DD was on my laptop whilst I looked after GD's she showed me a web page FLYLADY US. and said it looked good, I then showed her our Flylady and she was, WOW MuM that's brilliant !! She has been struggling with a routine so I sat down and wrote out a daily/weekly rota for cleaning etc. for her. She went home all pleased with her list, I did say that I would help her next week to get started on a few frogs, she has enough frogs to fill a lake.
WM & BM on, need to vacume and polish today and blitz the kitchen. DH will do bathrooms.
Apart from milk and veg I've not spent a penny since 22nd Dec as I'm determined to empty 1 of 3 freezers we have, I think DD2 will have lots of meals cooked for her so that will also help her spend more time sorting her place out. DGD's bedrooms look like Hamleys.

A Very Happy New Years Eve To All Friends on here.

    Good morning,

The house elf has a friend coming to play today - I rang her mum yesterday and asked to borrow her for the day. They can spend the day yakking in each others ears instead of to us :)

I have a Kenwood A901E upstairs that some of the good ladies on here have suggested I rescue from Mr Cranky's junk room and test to see if it works. I will be doing that. It's as old as the hills, but before Mr Cranky's premature departure he assured me it worked. I need to make cakes, so may as well try it.

Last day of trying to murder my liver today....I lost 2 stone altogether in 2011 and I would like to lose another 2 stone in 2012, so the diet starts again tomorrow. I am also going to try and give up drinking fizzy pop and swap to water instead. I will do it, I will do it (muttering under my breath).

Bramble more big hugs, and some for Lou and Dazi as well.

    Take care all of you.

  • Morning All.

Quick jump on for me, before the cleaning and organising starts. Lou you have some Scottish blood in you, you should be excited at the prospect of Hogmany :) I am in nervous mode, I get all hyped about cleaning the house, chucking stuff out and stressing about it all being ready for the bells. But this year, I am giving myself until 1pm to clean, then after tgat I am dyeing my hair, having a bath, and relaxing. We are off out to a friend's tonight for a party. First time we've done that since,we had kids, so it should be fun. The boys are coming too. Bought my new calendar yesterday, and want to try and get a mealplan sorted too, then I will be getting stuck into my blog over tge weekend. This one, I will share ;)

Have a great day everyone, and embrace the fresh start that the new year brings to us all.
