Just a quick update. Congratulations every one for paying off your debts. I've paid another 350 off my debt. I'm still not on track for paying off my debt before christmas but I'm working hard at it.

  • Jakes'Mum - I know what you mean about the expense of kids - my 2 sons regularly need new shoes (and eldest too large to get kids' shoes so really expensive) - I keep telling them not to let their feet grow anymore :rotfl:. Also their school is changing its' uniform  so from September they both need new uniforms even though my eldest only needs a uniform for one more year - wot a pain .

Jemma - good luck to your machine friend with his run :).

I am a very bad DFW, I knew not cancelling the DD would lead to trouble eep! I've just used the £760 I had saved plus some of my overdraft to buy myself a brand new bed and mattress, the perfect one that I wanted that will last forever and the most comfortable mattress in the shop (although not the most expensive) to go with it. I've got some expenses due back in, so will work out my new debt figure when that comes back in. I think it's not as bad as I think it is, as I have the savings. *prepares for slapped hand*

In my defence, I couldn't have my entire room looking all how I want it, and my bed being rubbish. The bed arrives on the 21st and has a lifetime guarantee, I'm super duper excited and I think it's only really set my debt free day back by one or two months, to June at the latest.

Kerri, I will need BOTH my hands slapping as I have been a VERY VERY bad DFW this week! :undecided I mentioned that I had something planned for Friday, but didn't go into details (feeling guilty - moi?!?)
Maybe if I say it quickly it won't come out as badly, so here goes (gulp). I have been meaning to take the children skiing ever since moving here four years ago and I got the sudden urge to take them up the mountains :snow_laug 30 minutes out of the city last Friday and I put a lot of money (hundreds) on my cc to pay for the bus up there (you need chains on your car tyres in the mountains here-too pricy), picnic, a beginners lesson for all of them, a day's lift pass, ski hire and a rented ski jacket for one of the children, who managed to get out of the house with just a jumper on - Brrr! We had a GREAT time. The lesson gave the kids the basics and they just went up and down the slopes all day, even though the snowflakes were falling down around them, they didn't once complain of feeling cold or tired. We had to race back to the bus stop to get back to the noisy, green city so that I could do an overtime night shift - had to find someway to start paying this back! Even though I can't afford to pay much of my debt back this week, it has fed the spendy gremlin inside of me; now I will knuckle down and be good again. There endeth my confession...:D
I can't wait to start having more fun and more adventures after the debts are paid back at Christmas time! :lovethougWhat will you treat yourself to in January '13???

well I will still be paying my debts off in 2013!! I have a debt free date of April 2014 from the CCCS, and I would like to make outselves debt free by xmas 2013 if at all possible.

After working in job that I don't like for a year I have decided that my real love is teaching adults with their children, the only thing with that is that it is sessional (ie 2 hr blocks and only paid for actual teaching hours not for prep or anything else). Soooo I am taking a real financial risk here as sessions will only be for 30 weeks of the year.

We are paying the CCCS what they need and then I am doing extra hours and ebaying like mad so that I have 3 months wages as back up. Having heard of three old collegues in their 40s with cancer has made me realise that I am only here once and I need to enjoy my work, not be stick somewhere where I am just there for the money, I have been doing that for 17 years since the kids arrived. We have been with the CCCS for 7 years now and all i have thought of for those years and many before is how much money can I make to pay everything off but now I am totally fed up with it all to be honest. I can't work where I am until 2014 and then return to teaching I will be insane by then.

So we are being extra careful now any surplus is going into a bank account, so I will do the savings thing and the paying off if that's ok.

Sorry for long post but just wanted to say why I wasn't go hell for leather on paying my debts off.

Your best bet will be Amazon or Play.com. What about doing a few car boots? that way its all cash, no waiting for people to pay up, or ebay & paypal fees? even if you do a few car boots as a back up. We do a couple each year and get around £100 each time.

    Good Luck x
