  • Hope everyone who was feeling a bit rubbish yesterday feel a little better today. Sending (((hugs))) to everyone who needs them.

No-one should beat themselves up about not being debt free. Every single penny that you pay off is going in the right direction. and paying over £10,000 is FANTASTIC:j:j:j:j

Kerri don't think that these are true friends. As Jemma said you should be able to be yourself and say what you like without worrying how they will take it. We are all here for you.

I love this thread as everyone is so supportive and helps to motivate you when you are feeling down.

Sending lots of love to all who need it too. Have a great day everyone.

  • Hey guys & gals,

Hope your all having a nice weekend - I am staying in today so a guaranteed NSD haha!

Muppet that is totally shocking about that horrid thief at your work! Something similar to this happended to me last year actually.

I got Married in August & had 2 peeps drop out at the last minute so invited my boss R & another girl from my work who I have worked with for like 5 years we shall call her S. They both attended my full day wedding - got fed, watered all day you know the script - Anyway just as the evening guests started arriving there was a fire alarm & we all got evacuated we where out for like 1/2 an hour when I went back in I couldnt find my bag which I left on the table underneath my veil. After searching & asking the events guy we found out it was handed in a reception so I got my bag back & it was empty - all my mac make up, perfume, hotel key, money was gone. We had our reception in a casino so the place has cameras everywhere within an hour the security guys had it all on CCTV & S from my work was seen taking my bag, emptying it & then throwin it away on her way in the door - I watched the CCTV but was in denial about it thinking NO WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY has this happened - Anyway I quickly realised it had when she was invited in to empty her bag all my stuff was still in there minus £16 which she had spent at the bar!!!!! Absolutely raging anyway charged her she got a Fiscal fine of £200 no criminal record but it shows on enhanced disclosure & she still works in my work they cant do anything about it as it happened outside of the workplace - I HATE THIEFS! they are just scum ofthe earth!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway rant over just realised how long that was

    Dxxx
  • Just done a big catch up as not been on for a couple of days. Been some good debt busting but also some sad bits so :grouphug: for the good and the bad everyone.

I am feeling a bit on the down side too. Have finally been diagnosed with a lung problem that does not go away - though does not sound too bad. I have had a cough since last June & a few chest infections. Seems this will always be with me now and just have to learn to manage it :(. Felt quite pleased when first got diagnosis as it explained symptoms but now it is filtering in to my brain that this is for life.

Next Wednesday is payday so hope to be at 30% paid off so still hope to make DF by Xmas. Hooray. At least I will get that sorted :)

  • Kerri - I would question OH what marriage means to him. Is his refusal because he does not want to commit or because he does not believe it is necessary? (You have been planning life & children together?). Likewise ask yourself what marriage means for you. If you both want different things it may never work but if you just have a different approach to the same end ie. a committed life together you can work out your compromise. From my own experience though I would say do not be the only one who compromises - you both need to be trying to make each other happy. :)

  • Sorry if that last post was a bit too personal but my present debts are down to trusting my ex. I put all my finances into our shared life as I believed the relationship was forever. When he announced he would never get married alarm bells should have rung that he did not see us staying together. Once all my money was spent he bailed out and I am left with a mortgage I can't afford, a house I can't sell and debts because he insisted on taking money for his "share " of the house. I know there are many people on this site through trusting and being generous to the wrong people.:(

  • Vw, it's horrible to hear that someone you trusted could do that to you... and it must make it especially hard to have to do it by yourself. Karma may not seem like much to trust at the moment, but that person will get his just desserts sooner or later.

Kerri - Your uni friends and worth the effort if they can't tell the difference between a joke and a seriously offensive comment.

As for me, I've updated my sig with the next loan payment debiting and a few extra pounds into the loan savings account, so:

    #123 - 1906 / 10762
    DFW - DEBT FREEEEEE!

    Total - 10762/10762 :)

Every silver lining has its cloud.

Bless your heart VW, ive read alot of threads that started like your story :( unfortunately for every good partner out there, theres an equally bad one and its not always easy to tell the difference :(

I am completely financially entwined with my DH, everything that can be in joint names is, but that means all our debts as well as all our assets. The more I read on here, the more I think, for all his faults, I am one of the lucky ones. I know that no matter what he wouldnt try to screw me financially if it all went wrong . . though after 15 years and ALOT of carp i'd be surprised if it did crumble around us :o

nctmum, we all have days like these but the key is to recognise your achievements so far. As camuk81 said, we are in this for the long haul and some of the people here have joined knowing before hand that they cannot become debt free this year but they decided on their own personal goals.

If you pay off 65% then that will mean you have still paid off £10,653!!! This is an absolutely HUGE amount to clear in a year and you should feel very proud that you can achieve this... This will leave you with £5736 left to pay so maybe set a slightly tougher target of getting your total debt under £5000 by Christmas? Please don't give up and please be proud of what you are doing. We are all proud of you :A xxx

Thanks for your support everyone, your replies have made me a bit teary, I've had this horrid Norovirus thing all weekend and I guess I have been here dwelling on it. The £5k thing is a good idea, that would be significant progress. Its just I'd like to buy a house next year and I want my unsecured debt to be as low as poss so I can get the house we want.

I'm listing some more stuff on ebay (last time was rubbish, I averaged £1 per item) - I love free listing!! But hate wrapping stuff up.

Thankfully for the majority of people their partners are genuine and realize the benefit of having someone who will stand by them through thick & thin. :) Keeping everything equal is probably key - including the debts X
