    Hi all
So I found myself at 1.30 this morning at a bit of a loss...then I found this thread. 2 1/2 hours later I had worked my way through the entire thread, all 150 odd pages and read most of the replies. And all I can say is thank you...it changed my mindset, my attitude and my belief in myself. Though I am proud of how much I have paid off, sometimes I get stuck with how much is left.

I tried not to laugh out loud too much as it was the early hours but I could relate to so many of the topics on here. (35, female and single = apparently spinster for ever more with no hope :))

Welcome to the club Jubilee! We've all been there and I can say have done the 1:30 am, though didn't get through all the 150 pages. That was on the old thread managed around 50 then committed. Well done with your efforts so far. We don;t often get chance to say how well we have done as being in debt and struggling is frowned on by general society. So get on here and core as loud as you can at how well you have done.

Personally I love catching up and reading how well everyone else has done and yes its depressing I can't buy a new pair of this or that. Come Christmas I'll be able to work towards what I want not what the banks want off me.

Ps as for the online dating everyone, I think my husband would have been better off if he had gone that route. First time I met him I pulled a lamp down on his head! Oops!

Welcome to my world just posted this in someone else comments section
"I spent, then got one loan, then kept spending. My credit then go shot. I ended up taking out a loan with a subprime leander with a starting balance of £5,813 at 60 payments of £233.14.

Total amount to repay is £13,988.40!

Meaning just on interest alone I will overpay the loan by £8175.40.

I'm now 28 payments in and its one of the worse things I have every done but its what I needed to make me have my LBM.

Just as reference the apr is around the 29.9% marker."

The current balance is at the 5k mark! Ouch!

Mine is a similar APR... Thankfully I didn't get the £7K  I was asking for and just got £3.5k! I cannot believe how stupid I was, wish wish wish I was on here then!

I think I will have to pay the loan off before my overdraft, it's hard to work out what is costing me more! xxx

ok well have worked out as much of the debt as I can at the mo and decided that I might as well go with this figure for now and when the other odd company comes back to me I can always alter it.

As of this morning it was totalling £6631.93 which when I snowballed it meant that it would be paid off in 2022.

This month I have cut back on everything and we seem to be managing to live off OH salary this month. I have just paid myself and have £350 left. Now if we dont touch that till my partner gets paid a week wednesday that is free for bills. I also have a £100 bonus which will clear on Friday and a extra cheque for £33 that I am going to put on bills. I paid an extra £100 off the water bill today which comes from the £350. If I was to use that £480 this month then it would reduce our snowball to clear everything by Sept 2015 which is a huge difference. Def going to aim to do it again next week.

As of the moment are debt is now down to £6531.93 :j
    APR NSD - 0/10
Paid off in 2013 so far £125.00
    April Money made - £18.00
  • Really struggling today peeps and feeling really down about everything. I think its because its half term and the girls have constantly nagged for food all day (because they've been bored rather than hungry) - something we don't seem to have much of. We are also sick of being at home all day but everything seems to cost money. I have booked to go bowling tomorrow as there was a deal on for kids whereby they get 2 games of bowling and food so they are looking forward to that. I'm just going to sit and watch.

Since we don't have any food in my hubby has gone to mozzies to get us a meal for tea - filled me with dread as he has other ideas about what is cheap compared with everyone else. Then I thought I would get a TesKos shop delivered (after making menu plan) so we can see exactly what we are spending rather than just putting extras into the trolley.

Have to find other things to do later in the week - we have a treasure trail that we could do round York but then the kids moan about the cold. Thought we could use a £25 pizza hut gift card I also have ( complained about a previous trip to they sent the gift card thru) and possibly have a mooch round the shops so the kids can spend what is left with xmas money.

I just feel a really cr*p mum today as they are having a rubbish holiday and if we hadn't been so bad with money up to now we could have done allsorts

Well done Sazdaz. Its amazing how little steps make a huge difference.

Rd, Know the feeling. I'm stuck as wether i pay if off first or go with paying off my other creditors then tackle that one. i have 4 credit cards and 6 loans so going to clear the credit cards as by paying them off my set payments of £155 can go against paying more off. Only problem is I can't even start to think about this around May time! Devastating!

    Who is your overdraft with?

Well time for my Monday! Had a pants day at work, not even been able to go to the bathroom without the phone ringing, 5 minutes thats all I want.

Paperwork as long as your arm! And a (interrupt for another phone call) great letter from the tax office. I'm now going onto a K code because I have underpaid! Nuts!

All my debts apart from Studio are with Halifax. My overdraft is £3000 and costs around £60 a month and my loan is £3500 and costs £96.04 a month, so I dunno, gonna have to bite the bullet and do something though! xxx

  • I think the guilt (of not giving kids good holidays etc) for me is part of the old spending behaviours. Unfortunately after bringing up children to expect certain things it is tough to then back track and say we cant afford that any more. I feel worst for my youngest as she is spending her teens without the things her brothers had. At least they had their bit of the spend spend spend years lol.
I have done a lot with DD bedroom already along "shabby chic" lines which she wanted. Bought charity shop wardrobe and painted it white. Today have painted old set of drawers from attic to match. She has white duvet cover & butterfly patterned white lampshade from charity shop. She still not happy as room is smallish and not quite all come together some how - probably needs accessorizing. I know it will work out but I feel guilty that it takes so long & isnt just a quick shopping spree. I think it's also worse cos DS 1 & 2 werent really bothered about bedroom stuff just a few clothes & computer games.
The holiday as a whole shouldn't be too bad despite not spending much as she has friends coming tomo for anti-valentine sleep over (half-price pizzas small price to pay) & is seeing friends on other days too.

Blimey Pooh when i was growing up, I would have LOVED a half term like the one u r giving your girls...Bowling AND Pizza Hut AND trips around York=good times :) In my time we were just sent outside to play/hangout come rain or shine. We did not look to our parents to make the fun for us-getting the time off school was the bonus.
When my gang have time off school, I will try to invite a couple of their friends around for a few hours - give them a jug of juice and a bowl of crisps and they are usually as happy as anything... Yes every now and then they grumble that their friends are flying to Florida for the week, but it is lovely to see them relax and just be kids on their days off school...Your plans sound lovely Pooh :T

    Sorry you're feeling down. *hugs*
You don't necessarily need money to have fun. Could their friends come over or vice versa? We hardly ever went to restaurants when I was a kid, never went to the cinema and my parents didn't usually spend any money. I remember lots of walks in forests, which I would complain about going on but enjoy when I was out as they used to make it fun by playing games with us and being generally adventurous. And we used to enjoy baking with Mum. Money isn't everything! Kids will always complain though :)

  • I hope you don't mind me saying that when I was a childminder I did loads with the kids that didn't cost hardly any money and also later when I went into Surestart centres I did the same. Kids love cooking, what about making pizzas (you can get 4 pizza bases for around £2, tomatoes, cheese, pineapple etc and put the food into little bowls and let them make their own, make cakes/biscuits, bubble wrap printing, collage from making rubbings of wood, pavement etc in different colours, some website such as Activity village, childminding forum, ichild and DTLK to name a few. Hope this helps with those with smaller children. If you know of any ideas for a DD of 16 who just wants to lie in bed all day let me know!:rotfl::rotfl:
