    Morning all,

Flea bay money has FINALLY gone in (anyone else with Halifax? Do you find it takes ages for money to go in from PayPal?)

It takes mine about 2/3 days I think but that's working days... you could find that if you withdraw on Wednesday they might not be in your account til Monday :( xxx
Life is too short not to love what you do.

I've just reduced my credit limit on one of my credit cards by £500 to take any temptation away from me to use it! :j

Oh and I started doing chair dips last night to tone up my arms so they are aching today! I'm going to put a gentle exercise plan together today where I'm doing 30mins+ everyday whether it be walking, resistance training, stretching/toning, Pilates or running. I'll use the walking as rest days and work different muscle groups on different days to give them a chance to recover... I'm really excited! :D

I wonder how Kerri is getting on??? xxx

My dad keeps harping on that I'll buy a house and be an old sad spinster with cats

I tried to be this but Hubby got in the way :rotfl:
Jemma you should be thankful it was just a waiter they were trying to fit you up with. Many years ago when I was single a friend tried to set me up with a guy who had changed his name by deedpoll to Grim... Grim Reaper, I kid you not! Lovely guy but...

We've had no internet all weekend so am trying to catch up with the thread. Good job it's a quiet day at work, still got 4 pages to read yet.

Well done steph on telling your parents:T I've never been that brave:(

Kerri good luck in the new job today.

No debtbusting to report. Seriously failed this week's challenge not once but twice this week :( AND ended up buying far more in Mr A's than just catfood. Had to rearrange my freezer to fit it all in:eek: However, I've just put in my overtime (£60) and as I've switched my orange tariff, I've saved £25 there so come payday on Friday I can attack that darn CC:)

Ok, back to page 147 (I think)

The coming weeks mini challenge: Grow something
Ok so we all need to be eating healthier and learning to be more frugal. The best way of doing this is to grow our own food, whether it's planting onions/galic, or bringing on some little seedlings or even cress, or buying a pot of basil/rosemary. So grab yourself a pot and some dirt, plant some seeds (or buy a ready built plant), and grow your own.

Oh this is spoooooky! When I popped into Wilkies on Sat to buy litter liners, I also bought some herb seeds (1st fail of last week's challenge - I only needed the liners!) as I have loads of little pots of soil from my failed attempts at growiing chillis last year. Now motivated to plant seeds tonight :)

Phew!! Just caught up with the 6 pages from the weekend :)

rdchick - well done on telling your parents. You're very brave. :T It is difficult to tell people you're close to.

Kerri - Hope your traffic wasn't too bad this morning and that you're having a good first day in your new job. Good luck :)

    loubie_lou - I hope you're feeling less "meh" today.

I used to like the film Bridget Jones's Diary but now it just makes me cringe as I'm now older than she was and at least she got to marry Colin Firth and had Hugh Grant with his nice little tushy waiting in the wings! :rotfl:

Honestly I think all the singletons on here should meet up for New Years somewhere and have a blast! :D ETA - on the next page I have apologised for excluding everyone who is not single in this, it was an honest mistake and I didn't mean it peeps...SORRY!!! :o:o:o:o:o:o I just meant going out for some speed dating kind of thing as a joke...I feel really awful about this... :o:o:o:o:o

It's funny though isn't it that they want you to meet someone and act like you actually want to be a permanent spinster, like you've chosen to be on your own like some sort of feminist suffragette (sp?) throwback?! My dad keeps harping on that I'll buy a house and be an old sad spinster with cats (actually I'm more of a dog person myself...). If I do then I'm training the dog to bite his bottom!!!! :rotfl: xxx

On a much brighter note, I'm in the middle of tidying/cleaning my room but am having a break after just eating my lovely lunch. I'm off out tonight for tea and afterwards am coming back to start my exercise regime... It's not intense, just making little changes everyday so I'll be far more likely to stick to it.
I'm also going to Liverpool next weekend for a Black Tie Do so the perfect occasion to wear my slinky black dress... ;) Watch out, cos here I come!!! :rotfl: xxx

There should be more black tie do's I think :)

The feminist suffragette throwback bit properly made me laugh :rotfl: mainly because I know EXACTLY what you mean. All my friends were gradually settling down all happy and cosy and I realised I was the only one that wasn't. I had people make jokes that I'd be some sad old spinster with a house full of cats. Everyone kept saying I was too fussy. No I just have high standards and like you said earlier I'm not going to settle for second best. Or on the flip side I won't be treated like second best... or third or fourth best which has often happened because I'm a jolly good egg and I wear my heart right out there on my sleeve which seems to mean I'm a prime candidate for being taken for a mug.

There still seems to be a bit of stigma attached to it but I'm not ashamed to say that I met my OH on an internet dating site and it was the last day either of us were ever going to log on because we were fed up of it. We've been together almost 2yrs now and we're both really happy..... but it has taken me until I'm almost 40! I started it the first time for a laugh years ago because one of the other girls in the office wanted to give it a go but didn't want to do it alone. But I actually met some really nice chaps along the way, (one of whom I did go out with for 4 years but there was so much wrong with that relationship when I look back on it). I've also had to wade through a fair amount of dodgy emails, and notes saying "hi babe, wanna chat?" ... erm no, not even if you were the last man on Earth thank you! But with most sites it's par for the course though they try to avoid it. Some of them are quite funny :)

The right chap will inevitably happen along somehow at some point. But in the meantime I think it's also rather grand being single, even if sometimes the price you pay is being made to feel awkward about it :undecided
  • Morning everyone! I hope you are all well. I'm feeling a little delicate from a rather boozy weekend. Decided to go for it with the teaching and my flatmate felt that I really needed to celebrate such a momentus decision. Cue Friday night, Saturday afternoon / evening and Sunday afternoon / evening of sitting in the pub drinking! She owed me money tho, so the weekend only cost £30 in total. That means I've spent my spending money for the week, but I had so much fun it was defo worth it. Being good this week, then off to the parents for the weekend so they can meet the OH .

However, I have come to the realisation that I am going to have to hit the debt-busting pretty hard over the next few months. If I'm going back to uni in September, then I really want to be properly debt-free by then. Especially cos the OH wants to me live with him and I don't want to be bringing all my debts when he's really good with money. So, in addition to the regular debt-free by Christmas I am going to have to try to aim for debt-free by September. I have done myself a new budget, cancelled the DVD rental, need to call o2 today and head into the gym to cancel that as well. If I can cut down "general spends" (ie alcohol, takeaways, days out) to £30 per week (from £50 ) then I will be able to achieve my target. It will mean lots of sitting in the house watching TV rather than heading out, but it will be worth it to move to a career I actually want.

    So, jobs for tonight:

    Cancel gym
Cancel o2 and move to giff gaff
List food currently in the house - meal plan the week
    Clean and tidy the flat
    Find items for fleabaying

Thanks Eddi and his missus, had to be done, hate having secrets! They are probably disappointed but no use crying over spilt milk!

As for dating sites, my brother met his now wife on there (they even had mutual friends just never knew each other!) and my BF's bro met his girlfriend on there and they have been together 3 years so I am a firm believer of online dating!

    Hi Antonia!

YAYAYAYAYAYAY! well done on the life changing decision! Bet you feel awesome!! Good luck on your challenge too, you seem to be getting on the right track! xxx

:T on deciding to go for it with the teaching Antonia.

As for saving money on takeaways and staying in watching telly we have payday takeaway in our house so it's like a proper event a couple of times a month and you really look forward to it. We also have cinema nights with microwave popcorn and sweets, get a favourite dvd or watch a film you've recorded off the telly, turn off all the lights and enjoy. I'm sure the experience could only be improved by getting someone to kick the back of the settee periodically for authenticity :rotfl:

Hope your weekend goes well :)
  • Sorry self-pitying rant coming!
It is half term so a chance for me to rest and catch up. Unfortunately looks like I have spent too much this month and thinking up ways to claw back money to stick to budget is really depressing me :(
It is so hard to balance debt repayments and carrying on with a reasonable life. Especially feeling guilty at kids not having much. DD wants to do up her bedroom as looks like we will never sell house (been on sale for year and a half now) and think it may be better to take off market til prices pick up a bit. If I sell now wont clear mortgage and debts. As mortgage on interest only this house is cheaper than most rentals so no point selling. When house goes back to full mortgage in July 2013 wont be able to afford mortgage unless debts are repaid. That is why need to be debt free by Xmas.
Well at least I can stay at home this week and hide away not spending any money lol
