My sortofmum is not fussy and gets on with anyone so her and MrS get on fine.

His mum however, is of the school that no-one is good enough for her children. Which is a tough mark to live up to! I'm lucky in that I dealt with MrS's emergency dash after his op really well and his mum was super impressed me with.

So, all you need is to make him have some kind of emergency where you can step up and sort it all out :rotfl::rotfl: I wouldn't recommend a 2am haemmorage (sp?) though!

On a serious note, I know how hard it is but the fact is he likes you and she will have to deal with it regardless of her own thoughts. It's not that you aren't good enough for him, just that no-one would ever be good enough! She will come round soon enough. :A

Know what you mean about difficult mums, been on both the 'you'll never be good enough' to 'you should be my daughter' ends!

My ex was 16 years older than me... so his mum was old enough to be my nan... infact his neice was old enough (almost) to be my mum lol! and at first she did not approve of me at all... then, she got ill and I made the effort to take her stuff into the hospital, get her things she needed and made sure she was happy (I was a student then so had lots of spare time during the day) after that she thought I was brilliant :D

However my current 'mum-in-law' loves me lots, my bf is Dutch and his family still live in Holland so when we see them we go for a few days and I hardly speak a word of Dutch so we have to bimble along but we go shopping together, just me and her when I am in Holland and she buys me lots of lovely things (and I find it really awkward in my terribly English way) but she's a proper mumsy mum and I always feel welcomed and loved when I am there :D xxx

My cheque still hasn't cleared which is annoying as I really wanted to pay off my loan today! Oh well, might have to pay it tomorrow (did I mention it is my birthday tomorrow... :rotfl:) so will be a great birthday present to actually own my car!!!

On a related note, my family are taking me out for a meal on Friday even though I said I wasn't bothered. I'm seriously going to sit at the bar and drink myself stupid as family get-togethers are always really stressful as my younger sisters don't like my older sister and my dad doesn't like my grandma... I feel like the bl00dy UN sometimes!

Thank you for your birthday wishes guys, 31 eh?! I'll be officially a thirty-something tomorrow

It's payday a week on Friday, a short month :j.Just been on to check my bank account and there's money in there still :T not touching it yet as I'm sure DH is well into his OD again  so may need to dip into this next week for weekly shop and I think there's a couple of DDs to come out (though they "float" so may not go out til after payday). If not, I've got a nice bit left over to throw at my CC next Friday:T

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm trying to not let it bother me, we haven't been together very long, and he likes me so that's what matters. He had warned me beforehand how she gets after a couple of drinks, and he ended up getting really annoyed at her so it was mostly just awkward. Particularly when she said "as soon as he first mentioned you I said to his dad he'd end up marrying you". Strange thing to say when I've known him less than a month! I know it is wicked but my flatmate's response when I told her was "you'll have all the power when you have the kids" :rotfl:.

Anywhoo, back to debt-busting. I was rubbish with last week's challenge so I'm going to do that tonight. Never done it before so going to start small and cheap to (hopefully) build up some positive feedback. There's loads of little bits and pieces that I haven't thrown away cos they aren't broken, but I never actually use. That'll also give me plenty of time to build up to selling my Irregular Choice Meow boots (I like them, but don't wear them enough anymore).

So, just when things were going well..... BOOM! Things got very tricky! :(

We crashed our car in the bad weather on the M1 on Saturday - we were both ok (which is the main thing!) but now we have been told the car is a write-off (which we kind of expected looking at the state of it :().... we are waiting to be told how much money we will be given back from the insurance - but the car wasnt really worth much to be honest. I have got together the money for the excess (without using credit cards :D) but this has meant my Dad has had to lend me money for the bond on the AMAZING (so excited!) rental house we are in the process of receiving.

So its good news and bad news really, next month is going to be expensive as we will need to get a new car and we need some items such as fridge freezer and bed (!) for the new house which we get the keys to on 1st March... but the main thing is I am DETERMINED not to put any more money on the evil VANQ*IS card.....

Hey ho - life likes to throw in these little curve balls doesnt it?!

I hope everyone else is ok - hugs to those that need them and pats on the back to the debtbusters!!!

So, further to my post last night, I have taken the plunge and transferred my wedding savings to my credit card.

As described, I will not be declaring this as a debt reduction as the money has effectively been spent, just not paid out yet. I was already keeping a spreadsheet of my changing balances for all debts and this savings pot so will keep them separate there so that I know which payments are debt reducing, and which are savings, if that makes sense. I think it will actually be okay for a while. The confusing bit will be when the credit card appears to be paid off so the savings will effectively be split across the card and the actual savings account, and instead of making cc payments, I will be crediting the savings account, and effectively transferring between the two....it's just as confusing in words!! I thought writing it out might help :rotfl:

Ah well, even if I do get in a bit of a pickle, it's nearly £3,500 that I'm not paying 19.9% interest on :T (though the last interest payment was much less than I had quoted - I'd mixed up the expected interest with the minimum payment ) However, the expected interest was £53.19, but I estimate a reduction to £12.47 :j, effectively paying extra off the card each month (£40 this month ) That's for me and not the banks YAY!!!

I actually amaze myself how much I can talk sometimes, sorry folks.....:o
