Payday payday payday goodbye goodbye freemans :-)
:rotfl: Love it!! It's been such a long month, hasn't it?! Even though I ignored the fact that we got paid early in December, January payday took soooooo long to come around. At last it's here though :j:j:jDebt Free By Xmas 2013 #010 £16,660.26/£16,660.26 100% paid, DFD 25/06/13!:j0 -

Canucksfan wrote: »Hi All, just need to vent b4 I do something drastic. I have taken over the Payment of credit cards (husbands and mine) since start of yr. so he gave me permission to open his cc bills which arrived today..needless 2 say it isn't good. His Canadian cc has gone past it's credit limit by a lot. The interest alone is over $100 this month. The $400 that I had put into his account is nowhere near the minimum payment that they want. Then I open another cc bill thinking it is a flyer from the same bank, but no- it is his English cc...the one he said he had just a few quid, practically nothing, just to keep the account open. So why do I see £2377.46 in the total which includes £12 for late payment last month?
I am at a loss to understand this man. I am sick of moaning about him. I cannot afford to keep supporting his spendy ways. The one good thing is that there are no new purchases on either card this month. If I ask him he will just shrug and say well I don't know howit happened. Are there any guys on tonight who can shed some light on how a mans brain works as I hv failed...badly.:(
oh canuckI think we've said before how similar our DH's are with money
I had to make the decision one day what I was going to do, Dh was never going to take responsibility for his finances, so I had to accept it and keep us completely financially seperate or take over his entire finances. I decided on the latter (at 20 that was no picnic I can tell you) and really had to square up to him about money. I have spent 12 years shouting, moaning, cajolling, explaining, crying and down right screaming at him and he is alot better. Would still NEVER pay a bill, but has learnt mostly not to spend without asking (I think we all know the exception to this rule :rotfl:)
With DH it really was a simple as he believed that everytime he put his card in the wall, the balance on the screen was his money . . . no thought to future bills or DD's. Credit cards were 'his' money and he woud happily spend spend spend and pay minimum payments until the card got maxed
I will freely admit I became his mother at my own choice, I do have 3 kids instead of 2 and I do have to lead him by the hand constantly. Some people disagree with people like me thinking how will they learn if I do everything for him, but TBH some people out there will not learn and if you want a life with them you do what you have to do.
He admits its horrible to earn the money he does and is only now getting £10 pocket money a month  but also admits if he didnt do what I wanted and I handed him back his finances he would be bankrupt and me along with him.
He now has 1 credit card that is an emergency card and I open all his post and set up internet banking on it so know when hes used it. He carries both bank cards but is a bit scared to use them as I absolutely love the arguement that follows, and he has yet to find an answer to my question 'did you NEED it? justify to me taking food out of your kids mouths to buy what you bought for yourself'. :rotfl:
If you want to take on his finances be prepared for a long battle as they really dont get that the money they are spending is not theirs. It does get easier over time but it wont be overnight

Got some fantastic news (hopefully).
OH's department manager has proposed a big payrise for him. Just need management to agree it but if all goes well, that'll be £300/month extra (after tax) from February onwards :j:j:j
I've been quite fortunate in recent years to get some good payrises and always taken the difference in the first month for special treats, etc. Will let OH do the same so the extra money for wedding savings/debt repayments will start from March pay.
Fingers crossed everyone!!!! xx:jDebt Free By Xmas 2013 #010 £16,660.26/£16,660.26 100% paid, DFD 25/06/13!:j0 -
I can't think what else, but calling them might mean they can do something about a repayment plan to ease that interest, always worth a shot *hugs*Canucksfan wrote: »...Grrr. A frying pan to the back of the head would b more effective...
Canucksfan it's just a thought but Kerri's suggestion, whilst probably not as satisfying, is still the better optionYou did make me laugh me though!

I'm forever grateful my payday is on the 15th of the month now instead of the 25th like it used to be a few years ago. January's have been so much easier ever since.
And @ Kerri .... :j HOORAY:j  for being rid of Freemans0 -

and soon I can pay the full amount off the card. Doing it this way has saved me about £75 in interest

I'm still waiting for my husband to have his lightbulb moment! He is supportive of all my debt busting but still can't really see the point. He says that everyone has debt and that as soon as the CC and overdraft is paid off it will just happen again. As far as he is concerned we are in a much better position financially than most. He is trustworthy with money but only because I take care of ALL financial issues.
It was fine to go out and treat yourself in your twentys (within reason!) but when we started to have a family and a larger mortgage the seperate bank accounts had to go as I was getting even more overdrawn while he still carried on spending like a single man. Although I only work part time we still earn about the same amount, and with overtime I can earn much more than him. I have a very stressful job (I'm a midwife) and although I'm usually knackered, I like working extra hours as knowing the extra money is coming in is good for my own mental health! It would be lovely to be appreciated a bit more for what I do for him and the family!
Perhaps I'm a bit of an over-organising ballbreaker, but we would be in a right state financially if things were left to him. As for the debts returning after all my hard work this year- he can think again, I'm NEVER going to be in debt again.xxLBM 14th Oct 2011 TOTAL DEBT £8500  £8500/£8500 (100%) paid)
