  • Really need to find time to re-catch up with the thread, but had to post with my news - me & OH have booked our wedding :D Luckily we *hopefully* won't be paying for much (if any) of it ourselves but YAY!! 38 weeks and 2 days to go!!

I read somewhere else that they normally go down to 70% of the debt which is about £450 for 3 months, and as they weren't going to let me do it over 3 months they wanted the money straight away and I got her to ask a manager I'm going to stick with that I think. I did miss a payment with them and was late with another one. I hear what you're saying though :)

Fair enough, its still a great saving! The missed payments is just more evidence that they should accept an offer of settlement so they dont have to chase you anymore. I will let you know how I get on with my outrageously low offers!!!!

I been with my OH for approximately 2years and we are suposed to be getting married next year. That is one of the reasons I wanted to join this thread, so it would be a new start, clean slate so to speak in 2013. The only problem is I have never fully disclosed to my OH the extent of my debt. He knows I don't get paid as much as him and that I am careful with my money. He is very generous and has paid for holiday's for us to go away but obviously spending money is required and because he has paid for the holiday I would pay for more things on holiday. This year I just want to pay off debt. He has started planning our easter holiday's and has mentioned the summer one as well.

I totally understand were he is coming from, he works hard all year and wants a break. My difficulty is I can't afford it but at the same time I can't say no to him. I just go and get myself into more debt because I don't want to hurt his feelings.

Am I worrying over nothing? I can't beleive and asking everybodies advise on this I was thinking of writing him a letter explaining all these things, so I wouldn't have to look at his disappointed face. Just call be cowardly Glenda....

One of the most important things with relationships is honesty. Sit him down and tell him about your debts, that you've got a plan to be debt free and you want to stick to it. He'll appreciate your honesty and should hopefully give you added support. You could always ask him to go for a holiday down in Devon or somewhere on the coast but not a luxurious holiday. The hardest part is letting our loved ones know we're in trouble as we don't want to disappoint them, but if he loves you he'll be able to help you with this burden :)

Thanks Kerri for your reply, the tears are in my eyes reading it, I know your right and I will sit him down and be honest with him.
  • If you are getting married to him you are obvioulsy in a loving and serious relationship so you are better just being honest. You are making a real effort to get yourself debt free which is brilliant! I am sure that he would respect that and appreciate you being honest with him.

If he REALLY wants a holiday, maybe you could have just one summer hol and make him pay for the spends too ;) or there's always camping!!!!

  • I totally LOVE camping by the way....which is lucky cos I can't afford to do anything else!!!!

Aw I didn't mean to make you cry *hugs* You could lessen the blow by saying "I was x amount in debt in xyz and I've been really good and reduced this down to x now. But I need your support to help me beat this" or something similar.

I also like camping, freedom to just put up a tent, getting out in the great outdoors. My holiday last year was 2 nights in Wales, we climbed Snowden and camped. We were miles from anything, so much better than a beach holiday.

Hi all, just wanted to update my payments this month

    £209.53/£5,000

I'm only listing the amount that goes off the balance , not the interest

I haven't been camping since my teens and that was a long time ago but I loved it then. That is such a good idea. I have to make a plan.
I won't be able to have the conversation until the end of the month, because he is away working until then and it's not a conversation you can have on skype. Thanks for the advise.:)
