  • As I'm a newbie to posting on forums, I am just now getting the hang of it. I sat down last night and rechecked my statements for cc debt and the exact figure is actually £8555.89 not £8,800. I hadn't included minimum payments that have come out this month so that makes me feel better already. My aim this month is to try to get as close to the £8,000 mark as possible and even £7,999.99 as that looks even better :)

Just spent £14.50 on bus fare for OH to come visit me from Cardiff next weekend. Wish he'd bought the tickets but when I said "shall I buy you them" he never volunteered to give me any money :(

  • I am very excited- I have been on benefits for a while due to ill health and I have been feeling bad/guilty because now my medication is working I am mostly well. WHen I had my last ATOS interview I told them this but they still renewed my claim. I have been doing permitted work but my hours/pay have just gone up and I was on the verge of finding out how to come off this benefit (more difficult than you'd imagine!!) I was sent a new claim form before Christmas but didnt fill it in as I dont feel I should be claiming anymore and I have *just* recieved my P45 from the benefits agency. I am over the moon as I didnt want to get into trouble for working more hours but literally could not get through on the phone to find out what to do! I feel a weight has been lifted cos now I can work with my DH one day a week for his buisness (and get the same amount I was getting) with my head held high not worrying about doing more than my permitted hours etc.
You'd never think anyone would be so pleased about losing a benefit ha ha but I feel I can hold my head up high now and not worry all the time! Ive just however eaten LOADS of maltesers to celebrate so I wont be losing lbs, just £'s :)

Me :o. Have tax bill to do for last year, savings were eaten up on car repairs so waiting till I get paid to pay tax man. OH smoking again  (which costs a fortune), trying to stretch everything as far as it will go as want to pay off Egg/BC (in my sig) as quick as I can before turning to my next debt. Lucky I have a second job (although I don't make a lot), but think this week's pay from it will be used towards my car tax.

Have you considered putting a portion of your wages each month into a pot to cover annual spends that creep up on you?
I've just started to do this and it covers birthday/christmas etc... so I pay £155 a month and keep track on a spreadsheet. I've got the following yearly bills:
    £500 car insurance (£41.67/month)
    £210 birthdays + mum & dad day (£17.50/month)
    £170 christmas presents (£14.17/month)
    £110 contact lenses (£9.17/month)
    £55 MOT (£4.58/month)
    £300 service (£25/month)
    £200 tax (£16.67/month)
    £360 gas + leccy bill (£9.84/month)

This means if I spot something in the sale for a xmas pressie I can take the money out of the pot. It also means when my service is due at the end of Feb I will be able to cover it without making myself super skint. I keep track of any deficits. I'd never had this method suggested to me before, it's my virtual way of doing the envelope system I think :)

It makes sense Kerri, I think I will. I started a piggy bank with £2 coins in it, so I'll do ok out of that as long as OH stops nicking out of it to buy cigs (yes he pays me back but not in £2 coins). I make cards and hampers as well so might starting putting away a little of this money too. Thanks

  • Still new to this, second post - think I'm now beginning to understand the lingo - even thinking about trying to sell old record;c.d's etc on some of the sites mentioned - anything to try and get debt down. Not going to pay as much as I thought, and got store card completely forgot using this over Christmas, but at least one store card now down to 0 balance.

not managed to do signature - still working on that.
