I been with my OH for approximately 2years and we are suposed to be getting married next year. That is one of the reasons I wanted to join this thread, so it would be a new start, clean slate so to speak in 2013. The only problem is I have never fully disclosed to my OH the extent of my debt. He knows I don't get paid as much as him and that I am careful with my money. He is very generous and has paid for holiday's for us to go away but obviously spending money is required and because he has paid for the holiday I would pay for more things on holiday. This year I just want to pay off debt. He has started planning our easter holiday's and has mentioned the summer one as well.

I totally understand were he is coming from, he works hard all year and wants a break. My difficulty is I can't afford it but at the same time I can't say no to him. I just go and get myself into more debt because I don't want to hurt his feelings.

Ahhh Glenda ((HUG)) I know how you feel about telling you OH, I also hid the extent of our debt from my DH, for the reason he has depression and he cant deal with it all, it scares him. SO I dealt with it alone for as long as I could until I broke down as he wanted to buy XYZ and I knew we couldnt afford it. I'll be honest it was the best thing I ever did, he still doesnt deal with the debt but knows that he cant just go buy a 32" TV for lilys bedroom because Jake got a new games console for xmas and she can have his old one
There is no shame in being in debt, millions of us have done it, credit is easy and we are not really a nation of saying no to ourselves. I think the disappointment you will see in his face will be because you didnt tell him sooner rather than you spent beyond your means :o

If he REALLY wants a holiday, maybe you could have just one summer hol and make him pay for the spends too ;) or there's always camping!!!!

Have to agree with the camping though im a caravan type rather than a tent type (only cos I cant get from the tent to the loo block on my own :rotfl::rotfl:) but we bought a cheap caravan once and went to camp sites about once a month in the summer and it was brilliant. Jake and DH took their bikes, Lily was still a baby so played on a blanket and I read a book :T:T:T
I cooked the brekkies on the built in stove and I think we went to tesco and bought a cooked chicken for tea :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:we are talking about getting another one and taking the barbeque with us, as its such a cheap holiday, but I am refusing until the debt it GONE!! But its certainly a firm hope :D

Soooo.....no more debt-busting expected until payday now but there may be some debt-increasing activities afoot :o:o

I think I found a wedding dress yesterday!. I love it but it's over my budget (only a little, I will add). I feel that it's worth it and H2B is happy for me to spend it but a can't help but feel guilty!

Also, payday seems a way off this month and we are running out of food that I can eat (on a restricted diet - v annoying!) There's no money left in that pot so I may have to dip into overdraft if I can't make what's left stretch for 12 more days (and it's not looking promising :rotfl:)

On the positive, I wouldn't have usually blinked an eye at using our overdraft, so that progress at least :o;)

awwww cute Helen, if it will make you happy for your big day make it happen :)

I have added another £20 to my credit card but won't update my amount until the end of the week as have had a wobbly one this week so need to replenish and replace! Didn't get paid as much as I thought I would (£12 short) so that sucks but next week I should get more :)

    Happy friday everyone! xxx
Life is too short not to love what you do.
  • I flipping hate camping. Probably my fault for going camping in Northern Ireland, with 6 kids ranging from 3-16 years while 32 weeks pregnant. It rained, continously, we were camped on a slight incline so I kept rolling off my air matress, and I couldnt fit in my sleeping bag cos of my belly. There were 20 million wasps and I coulndt even get drunk due to aforementioned bump. DH and friend went out and got REALLY drunk one night- I stayed back with the kids and they came home and woke me up (DO NOT wake a sleeping pg woman) and then my eldest son wee'd his bed- jamas, sleeping bag, floor mat...........

Congrats on the weddings guys- how exciting-mine was AGES ago in 2003- maybe I should do it again :)

No money news here- still overjoyed at Vanquishing Vanquis although I must admit I am dragging my feet about cancelling it/cutting it up- remind me why I should oh wonderful debtbusters x

Right Im banning self from MSE for a bit now- I have to pick up baby one at 1pm and im off to Nottingham with work for the weekend at 7 and I have LOADS of work to do, and need to dye my hair (priorities, priorities LOL) however I cant do that until my cleaner has left as she has a fit at me about spreading bright red hair dye everywhere, making the bathroom look like a massacre
    Catch you all later

Oh and Kerri- well done on the negotiations- BRILLIANT x

  • Today will be a good day...I can feel it! I stayed up really late last night but cheered myself up by paying £75 off my mortgage arrears before bed with our bingo winnings.

Today, I am going to list at least 10 things on ebay, contact all of my collection agencies to discuss my outrageous offers, go through all of our bank statements for the last three months, make a list for next weeks meal planner and have a slice of cake!

First I need to deposit my DS at nursery! Wish me luck in that one!

    :( Trying hard...failing miserably :(
  • I am not a big fan of camping either - its my idea of hell actually but DS1 loves it. Luckily he gets to go away alot with Scouts.

I got married in 2002 - it seems like such a long time ago. It was a brilliant day though.
Pay off all my debts before Christmas 2015 #165.

If you feel to guilty is there anyway you can save money on another aspect of the wedding? Offset it a little?

However, I'm sure the dress is stunning and may we please see photos at some point? :D

ETA: I LOVE camping, although not so much when it rains.

  • I LOVE camping but it helps if you have all the gear and a decent size tent! There is nothing worse than being crammed into a 2 man tent when its pouring with rain outside. If you have a tent you can stand up in and with a separate 'living' room its ok, there is still room for the kids to play and you can sit inside in the evening if it rains. The weather makes all the difference! I think alot of people are put off if their first time camping was hideous but it takes practice and figure out what you are doing.

@Glenda.....why not suggest to your OH that instead of spending loads on a holiday you start collecting some camping gear on Ebay? Now is the time to pick up bargains and once you have it you can get years of holidays out of it. You can still go abroad quite cheaply and if you dont like somewhere you can just pack up and move somewhere else or even better go to Cornwall!!!

Or get on Ebay and make the extra up that way?

Just spent £14.50 on bus fare for OH to come visit me from Cardiff next weekend. Wish he'd bought the tickets but when I said "shall I buy you them" he never volunteered to give me any money :(
