The Giving Up/ Cutting Down alcohol support thread - number 11

  • Well January was a big fat fail. I only managed another 3 or 4 days on top of the 7 I'd already done. Having said that, I haven't had any hangovers, and my ultimate goal is to cut down to the extent that alcohol doesn't ruin other aspects of my life.

I'd like to pledge 12 for February please, if you'll have a lurker back :)

Rachel- Sending lots:grouphug: of to you and your family xxxxx

Crazymum- Well done on 31AF :T

Thankyou all for the sympathy :o I actually had the tooth extracted on Tuesday but the pain in my jaw since has been agony and I feel so sick. The dentist said the tooth was infected ( It had been filled by a previous dentist and had been causing me so much trouble the last few months - I have now changed to a different dentist who is fantastic ) . My face is swollen but hopefully will be ok in a day or two.

    Thankyou everyone xxx

  • fakeplastictwee no hangover in January has to be an achievement :T

Just had to say thankyou Shaggy for keeping scores - I honestly felt like I was standing up on the centre podium at the olympics getting my gold medal this morning when I saw the little 10/10 man :D

Rachel (((hugs))), stay strong and keep smiling for your Mum...

Plumjam - a huge welcome, you'll just love this thread and all the people on here :)

Hope everyone has a good day...
  • Bearacus if the pain's still bad you could possibly have 'dry socket' it's when the socket doesn't heal properly. I had it and it's horrible - I think you'd need to go back to the dentist if you have it - searing pain in your jaw. Happens particularly if there was infection in the gum still (I think)

Anyway, just thought I'd say - if you google it, you'll see what it is.
Hope it isn't that..... hopefully it's feeling better today xx
  • Big hugs Rachel, hope the tooth is better soom bearacus and Happy February everyone.

I ended Jan on 27 (3 more please Shaggy). One short of a halo but I'm over the moon. I only ever went this long once before and that was over 10 years ago when all my workmates did an AF Jan together but I hated every minute and got stuck straight back in with glee on Feb 1st. This time I'm beginning to like to feeling - still bells and still slips - but generally I'm liking sober MORE than I like drinking :D

Well said, gardenanna. I'm not knocking anyone who had an AF January but we're in it for the long haul! Shiny new month, here's to many AF days between us.

Sending you a big, big hug rachel, we're all thinking of you.:A

I'm calling in on 14 AFDs for January please and 2 for the SNC.
  • Hi All,

Some fantastic totals for January, Well Done!! :T And it's fab to see such a long list of names on the target list :)

Bearacus - Hope the tooth is feeling better

Rachelww - Sending you hugs. I know nothing I can say will make it better but we are all here for you.

MrR has been set a challenge of a "Wine-free February" He's agreed to it, so fingers crossed he won't "forget" on the way home. He's allowed beer but I know he doesn't drink as much of that as it's too gassy. A big part of me really believes he's gonna give it a go this time (yeah, I know....) :D

Well best get back to my really busy day. BabyR is poorly so we're having a day of cuddles and BabyTV

De-lurking to sympathise. [don't read on if squeamish]. I had 2 teeth out last week under general anaesthetic cos they were so impacted. They had to chip out some of my jawbone to get the teeth out so it's still quite sore and I still can't feel my tongue, cheek or gums on that side. Was worried about dry socket as when I cycled up a hill at the weekend I think I dislodged the clot () but seems ok today. I am on the big pink anti-inflammatories and the antibiotics that you can't drink with (contributing towards 28AFDs in January, but who's counting. Not me anymore. Er...:o). Hope you feel better soon.

    Back to lurking.
