    Morning :hello:

My OH has been invited to a very posh doo at the being of March - so I must lose weight to get into my posh clothes! So I officially started a diet yesterday....I'm starving (not really) lol.....I'll be needing the maximum number of AFDs I can get...so 1AFD for SNC please Bearacus.

Hi I am new here but so want to join you.. my story briefly ...

I am 52 and have always drunk more than i should but not loads and had af nights between 2 and 3 nights each week. Then my daughter with bump and her partner came to live with us while they were waiting for a flat. I watched my beautiful granddaughters birth and to cut a long story short she died at 6 wks from whooping cough which the hospital did not detect. This was the worse day of my life and the following months. Grieving for her and reliving it each day, the whats and ifs!! But to watch my daughter go through it was like hell, i cryed every night and when i fell alseep no matter what time i woke i heard her sobbing. So from that day over three years ago i have drunk a bottle of wine (or just over) every night since. Now I know that pain does not go away ever and i still relive this, but life goes on and she has a beautiful son now.
I want to stop now but can I just stop, I am dependant on it? I have tried to find out on the net but it says if your a heavy drinker you can't just stop, so do i cut down by how much? I am so tired of being tired all the time. I sweat in the mornings, I ache and i am addicted to it so it will not be easy for me as every day i say today i will have one glass less each day but at night that da never comes because i will do it tomorrow.

I would like to join you and look forward to not being dependant on the wine.

Your all doing so well congratulations to you all.

That is just so so sad. Welcome and I wish you so much luck with your AF journey and really hope you keep posting.

  • Welcome to Shar-ona and Peter Bunny and Well done everyone, haven't caught up except this page as this is a flying visit.

I've succumbed to temptation Tuesday and then stayed strong last night. I even went to the off licence, bought wine for OH and didn't have any, which was foolhardy but I did it!

So that's 2 for the SNC and 9/13 for January.

    Hi everyone
Almost caved in this eve, went so far as to put a bottle of wine in the fridge to chill but then fell asleep on sofa, woke at 8pm and craved a cup of tea instead so put wine back. :j

:rotfl:Not often on here that falling asleep on the sofa is something you can be congratulated on - so congratulations!!:T
Mackeroo, you've been doing so well, I'm really impressed with how far you've come!

Welcome to the thread shar-rona and thank you for feeling able to share such a painful story with us. I am truly sorry to hear of the loss your family has suffered.
I completely understand the comfort you have found in wine.....it has the ability to numb the senses and make everything seem a bit better even just for a little while. Before joining this thread in Oct, I was drinking a least a bottle of wine a night (sometimes nearer 2) and thought it made me feel better about myself. In fact, it was the reason I was feeling crap about myself. But I had to break the cycle of drinking it, to come to that realisation.
Everyone's approach is different and I, long term, believe I need to not drink at all. However, I also know that in certain social situations I still need the "crutch" of wine and now allow myself to drink very occasionally at the moment. I am taking baby steps. Last year, I probably consumed 6-8 bottles of wine a week on average. This month, I'll probably only have 3-4 bottles for the entire month. My next challenge is when I do open a bottle, not to drink the whole thing....as I said baby steps. Every change you make will have a positive effect on how you feel. All the very best........ CP
  • Hi all and thank you all for the lovely supporting posts and tips. So last night my aim was to have 3 glasses, well I didn't manage that but I did manage 4 so for the first time for ages I did not drink the whole bottle. I am pleased, I started drinking later I went to the gym first and I did not rush the wine so my aim tonight is 3. Well done to everyone , I am looking forward to having AF days but little steps will do . Af days will be much harder because my mind knows it will get some wine. Just got to not have the whole bottle. On my phone got to do dinner then shopping so will try and get on my laptop later. This writing is tiny, just hope it reads as I think I wrote.. lol. Thank you all so much for being here .
