Hello all, I am still on the never ending quest to find my stop button. (I drink BIG or not at all- once I start I cant seem to stop myself resulting usually in injuring myself- I have a huge scar on my forehead from my birthday this year and often get bruised etc. I am still in denial that my huge bone breaking incident - 9 months recovery 2x operations was drink related. It was )
I lost it big time over the summer resulting in a period of drinking everyday, in the day, drinking due to NEED not want, and feeling thoroughly rubbish.
Fast forward to now and I am grabbing that stop button with both hands. My DH is completely on board with me and we went for a drink for a friends birthday last week and set ourselves a limit of two drinks each. We lasted from 7pm til 10.30 when we sloped off to get a curry and sat in the restaurant drinking WATER! The birthday boy at this point was on about pint 7 and we were SOOOO bored LOL
Last night I had less than half a cider, the night before we went out for DH's birthday and had one glass of wine and half a tiger beer!
I am absolutely loving the clear head, lack of mental health type feelings (I have OCD and anxiety issues- not "OCD" like cleaning but proper full blown compulsive thoughts etc- HORRID)
I am feeling so very on control at the moment and dont want this feeling to end. It is my youngest DD's birthday party saturday and normally "her" party (yeah right, mine) would morph into a massive !!!! up but this year Im not even seeing it as an "excuse" to drink (to excess)
I am also loving weekends that aren't completely written off- I have 4 kids and DH and I both work and weekends are the only time we can get "stuff" done and this weekend gone I was in the shop at 7.15am buying the papers to take back to bed! Blissful and makes a change from waking up feeling like a mess!
ANyway enough about me- hows everyone else doing? I will try to have a quick catchup but its been MONTHS
Welcome back. That struck a chord with me.
I wasn't an everyday drinker, but the reason I know I am not like 'normal' people is that I wanted that 16th drink as much as I wanted the 1st one.
* You can substitute 'wanted' for 'needed'
My anxiety lessened when I stop drinking, but for me that's only relief from some of the symptoms of my alcoholism. I needed recovery as my drinking had hurt me and others.
So I needed to change, and most importantly, STAY changed.
For me, alcohol is cunning, baffling, powerful and patient.
All the best and well done on your AF achievements0 -
Morning :hello:
They couldn't fit me in yesterday and there is no clinic today so I'm having to sweat it out until Monday. I magaged to keep busy and so I tried not to think about it too much _pale_ And on the plus side I couldn't eat a thing.....
Anyways, I bought a bottle of red wine on the way home from work and had a glass before bed. That's my plan for the next few nights. Not great I know but it calms my mind before sleep.
Happy Friday!

EDIT I HAVE UPDATED #3364 WITH YESTERDAYS REPORTED AFDsWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
Morning all
Shaggy so sorry to hear you are sweating it out so to speak with the weekend wait. Am currently busy writing the ppt I have to given in 3 hours (ahem) never mind, it will be fresh in my mind and all good (I hope). Today is finally Friday which means I have 2 days and importantly 3 nights to try and turn my brain off and not think of all things work and regulatory. I am going to turn of the alarm and see how much sleep I can get, then hopefully put in a bit of time in the garden sorting out the dead stuff before the apparent autumn storms hit us. I will attempt not to hit the bottle and drown my sorrows.
And nose back to the grindstone time.
Oh, nearly forgot that will be 8 for me pleaseStart info Dec11

A quick post before I forget where I'm at.
From last Thurs: Thurs 1 beer. Fri af. Sat af. (Woo Hoo!) Sun too much vodka (Uh oh...). Mon too much brandy (:mad::mad:). Tues af. Wed 2 glasses of wine. Thurs 1 beer after my run.
Room for improvement. What sort of duffer goes af over the weekend only to start drinking on Sunday night? And then on Monday as well! I ask you! Sigh.
Anyway, despite the minor hiccups, I am now on 13 AF, which is close to my Sep target of 15
On the upside, DW has found my kindle - pretty much under my nose...
Shaggy : 13 AF
*Mari* : Only 1 AF this week so far...
Best of luck to everyone and Shaggy; breathe deep and stay calm. Keep busy and I am sure Monday will be here before you know it0 -

Shame about the appointment Shaggy but I think the wine plan is a good one. It means you've got a plan and you're in control. Personally I find that the hardest thing about a health scare is the lack of control.
Well done td on your total AFs plus the other days when you've been moderate:T. I think the fact you've kept a score of all consumption shows you're determined to sort this, nothing hidden away! I don't know if it would help you but I find doing something on a Monday evening is good displacement/distraction technique. I go to a dance class where we have nothing stronger than a cup of tea in our break. I'm driving and I don't get home until after 10. I find this sets me up for the SNC.
Love your idea of switching off for the weekend misslr. I'm dreadful for checking emails when I should be relaxing.0 -
Oh I do the whole email checking this, compulsive iphone-itis. I tell you the technology of emails being available all the time was a disaster for my sanity and probably my health and life in general.
I have to turn of my brain, I have all the warning signs again - that funny buzzing noise when I think of work, sharp panic waking up, losing the plot on normal conversations, the list is endless.Start info Dec11

I had a very distressing dream earlier in the week: I could hear my phone buzzing (I knew I'd left it on vibrate from a meeting earlier). I tried to answer it, carried on buzzing. I tried to turn it off, carried on buzzing. I tried pulling the battery out, carried on buzzing. I'm getting really wound up by this point and woke up with a jolt...OH is lying there, snoring gently.:rotfl:0 -
