What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

I know you've tried talking to MrR about his problems but is he fully aware of how much his drinking affects the family budget? Does it affect him the same (does he have to go without to buy his booze)? If he had a reduced budget for the booze would he just go into debt? Any outcome from his talk with sister? Any parts of book read?

Sorry to bombard you with questions.:o I'm just interested and sympathetic but just ignore if you don't want to discuss. Hope the sun comes out to try and cheer you up a little.:A

    QUOTE]

At the start of every month he always says we'll just have to tighten our belts a bit. I can't tighten mine much more!! Does he go without?? I guess he misses out on the "extras". We always have food on the table (although my shopping habits have changed) and the bills are always paid (eventually :D), but it's just the other stuff. When the car needed to be taxed I managed to scrape together enough for 6 months. The car needs to be serviced but we can't afford it. When it was BabyR's birthday I sold a few bits on ebay so I could buy her a present. We are going away fo a few days soon but it's me that's been putting money aside to spend while we're there. I only work part-time and half of my wage goes on bills so I just get a bit resentful that it's always me that finds a way to pay for things
The Talk didn't happen. She bailed on me. Said she couldn't find the words. It's bizarre that we're all tiptoeing around this subject when it is a big deal. And the book hasn't been started :(
The sun did finally come out. Just as I was about to go to work!!!! :rotfl:

Trainingdad, sounds like you had a bit of a lightbulb moment
That's what I'm waiting for MrR to have. I've been waiting quite a while

Markman, just wanted to send you hugs :grouphug: I hope you feel better for having a bit of a rant.

Oh folks, talking is good, we have made this a safe place to do so.

MrsR - I am afraid my response to the above would be sit him down and tell him the whole lot, with evidence and take the bull by the horns. This is far to to important to let slide, a third party has made a complaint and it needs to be followed up. If nothing else then the colleague who spoke to you about it needs to know someone tried.

Markman Trainingdad - keep up the good work.

Managed not to drink in the PJs - so another one to add please!

I tend to agree with you. It's such a shame MrR's sister bottled out of talking to him, so much responsibility is falling on you MrsR. It might be worth approaching the sister again and agreeing to talk to him together. I do know it's hard but while he does need to experience his own lbm, everyone around him would want to know they've tried everything to help him. The latest development with the colleague could result in him losing his job. It has to be worth try.

I jumped back on the wagon quite effortlessly last night. Another good sign was that I didn't have the exact white wine in that I've been enjoying lately. I had plenty of red, rose and spirits but I didn't fancy those. I'm delighted that I've become more discerning not just pouring anything down my neck.

    12AFDs for August please.

Glad the date(s) went well, tracy.;)
