  • 1 AFD to add for me please. That'll be 10/20. Realistically, I will probably have 2 more AFD before the end of the month and I think that will be the most I've achieved in a month since I joined you all.
I'm now much more aware of my intake (and OH's), slightly more in control once I start drinking (part of my problem is I don't like to stop!), and I'm VERY thankful for finding this forum, and all of you lovely peeps (even though I don't contribute very much to the daily chat).
Target for SEPTEMBER is 16 please.

I'm really pleased with my 10 AFDs for august though and the encouragement on here as really helped :A I feel as if I'm more aware of what I am drinking so definately a step in the right direction for me.
I will have 12 AFD for September please.......little steps:)

Oh the bells, I have cleaned the bathroom, the spare room and remade the bed, sorted the ironing basket out, and the washing baskets and sorted all the receipts out. Not going to give in so now in bed with a big glass of squash so if I give in now I will be drinking in my PJs , not a good look!

Evening and lots of hugs to all the new and old folk who need them
During their battles with the effects of alcohol in their lives.

I've completely lost track of my AF days, but I've beenpretty good the past few days, either AF or just a glass of wine with dinner.

Shaggy, I'd like to set a target of 25 days please, although I can't guarantee I won't lose track as usual, but I'll cling Onto the wagon as much as possible.
    Trying to keep in budget.

  • There's so much positive talk on here, it's lovely to sit and read it.

Had a little demon in my head this evening who very much wanted a drink. He got a glass of water and nothing stronger :rotfl: As it's nearly bedtime now, there's no way I'm drinking tonight. That's 2 days AF. Tomorrow's the biggie - Thursday night was always for drinking (now I think of it, so were most of the others... always some excuse)

shaggydoo, I'll try for 15 days AF in Sept. Got to aim high!
  • missrlr, as I read your post about busying around the house, at first I thought of you trying to keep your mind occupied and away from a drink. But, then I looked at it another way: Think of all extra time we have and the stuff we can get done when we're not so focussed on getting drunk. Well done for putting that hard earned energy to good use. :j:j
  • mrsrainman, for a long time I've spent lots each month on booze and, although my wife is very understanding, I'm sure she feels very, very frustrated also. It wasn't until very recently when we sorted out a firm and proper budget, paying all money into a household account, paying all household bills from that household account and paying a reasonable monthly allowance out to our two personal accounts that I really had to sit down and think. £80 a month for personal spending, it should be quite enough, but if I chose to buy booze, the money ran out before I got the the end of the second week. I am ashamed that on one occasion I chose vodka and wine over taking my daughter out. Only once. It was soon after that time that I realised that I quite simply could (a) not afford to drink as much on my allowance and (b) there was no way I could go to my wife and realistically attempt to justify a massive increase to accommodate my drinking habit.

It made me think really hard (again) about priorities and what I really wanted. Just a thought. It may help, it may not.

Morning all. Feeling really down today. I started reading the Allen Carr book again and stopped 4 pages before the end - before the big commitment.

I was in bed by 7:30pm but couldn't sleep because everything was going round in my head. Spent every waking moment during the night (and there were a lot of them) either worrying about work or wondering where my life could go. Can I honestly take that final step and say "never again"???? I really don't think I can control it at the moment, yet I know I have a relatively stress-free life. But I honestly can't remember the last time I could say I was "happy" - if anything, it was probably the last time was the morning after my last AF day!

I feel I'm staring at a future of drinking hell, or a future that I can't comprehend - permanently sober!

Everything in the book made perfect sense - I cannot give a single reason to drink, but can't go a day without it.

I know I am feeling like this because of the drink, and it isn't going to change unless I do. The answer is therefore obvious but that is a world I honestly can't envisage.

I'm not asking for answers, I just needed to write this down and share, and there is no-one else I can share it with.:A

    Rant over. On with life.

    Good luck to everyone else!
Smoke-free since Jan 2012 :j Now its just the drink, and the weight, and life in general :p

I think it,s great that you have given up the cigarettes, it must be hard to cutback on the drink. My darling daughter drinks far to much and I do worry about her health. I hope you feel better about yourself today. And stop beating yourself up. It will be the hardest thing to do to give up but keep trying. And the best of luck.
