How did the shopping/afness go last night CC? Was thinking about you. I find those silly little habits hard to let go off too.

Well, I didn't open the wine but I did have a couple of Gins with lots of slimline tonic. Not quite the saint, but not too bad!

I also managed to only have 3 glasses of wine last night instead of falling into bed on a Friday night half sloshed! I'm improving!!!:T

Hope everyone has a lovely long weekend.

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

No more AFDs for me, I had a couple of large brandys last night but I'm ok with that.....bought 3 bottles of wine on Thursday with my weekly shopping and they're still in the cupboard not opened - unheard of !!
DD is coming home this week for a few days which won't be good for my AFDs but I feel a little bit in control of my drinking at the moment.
Thank you for all the encouragement on here :T

  • Hi can I join please? I've developed dreadful drinking habits to deaden the reality of my troubles over recent times. I want to have more money, lose weight and get back in control f my life! Through August I've drastically cut down my drinking and in the month have had in total what I would have normally had through a weekend. I do look slimmer and have loads more energy but it's always tempting come the weekend to want to slip a bottle in with the shopping!

Welcome! You'll enjoy this thread, loads of support and no judgements.

Are you planning to give up or cut down? We generally have monthly targets with weeknight ones alongside or if you prefer you can just go for a day at a time and record your score. If I were you I'd come up with a plan for this week (rest of August) then we'll be thinking of September targets.

Keep posting and well done on cutting back so far.:T

Thanks for the reply. I'd love to get to the point where I can take it or leave it (wine lol)_party__party_:beer::

For now the plan is to allow a drinking duvet day no more than once a week. But to allow that it's still no drinking alone in the house, only out and in company so if I'm not out socially then I need to make sure I don't slip and drink at home that's when I have way too much.

So I'm trying to be realistic, but not talk myself back to where is was saying "only this once is ok" i know myself too well!

    I'll keep popping in, thanks:T

  • Hi just read a few posts just seeing if anyone else has a husband/wife who is an alcoholic? I have been married for 6 months been together 7yrs on and off before then for a further 3yrs always known oh has a drink problem but in the last 3 months he got to the point where he could not be a functioning alcoholic and we lost our business/car/all my family members, we have 2 children and have had to claim ESA as he is unable to work and I look after him as he has deep depression anxiety and would be unable to look after the children while I worked. When we hit rock bottom and lost everything he finally decided to go to the doctore to receive help and was referred to an NHS addicts team who gave him a plan to reduce his alcohol as much as he could (very slowly) he still drinks everyday as he has got down to his limit which is between 8 to 10 cans of 4% lager a day. The addicts team say his liver is well enough to have a home detox but we have put this off as he has finally agreed and wants to go into rehab which is a 14 week intense therapy course. We are still waiting for a bed/funding so havent got a date yet and he wanted to do the home detox the week before he goes into rehab so there would be no waiting inbetween even though he can go into the rehab centre once a week for support and the addicts team would still be in contact with him. On the last visit from the lady from the addicts team the OH said he will do the home detox in 2 weeks time starting monday 10th of september even though we havent got a plae for him at rehab yet (we have done an assessment with a local social worker also) is or has anyone been in this situation? I am trying to stay strong and keep carrying on but it is very hard and feel quite alone x
