Hi MrsR I know you and me have have talked about this before. My DH also drinks at a level that affects his health and our lives together. He averages about 17 - 20 units a day and insists it's both normal and not a problem. We're older than you are - no babies at home any more - and have had a long and happy relationship and I've no intention of giving up on it now but this creeping devil that is the booze is just wearing me out. With the help of this thread I now don't drink every day - I was never a great drinker in terms of quantity but followed my DH into the "Is it wine o'clock yet" habit. I now realise when I was drinking I was much less aware of the impact of his so now I notice it much more and it's become MORE of a problem. On really bad days I have a crafty glass of wine just to take the edge off.

"Taking the edge off" are the exact words I use!! Before BabyR arrived I would occassionaly have a drink just so I could cope with his behaviour.
Anyway, something strange has occurred in the Rainman Household this week. It's Thursday and no wine has been bought. Yes, you read that right. NO WINE!!
Monday he was poorly. Drank the 2 bottles he had with the hope of making himself feel better but it didn't work. Tuesday he was still bad. Nothing was bought from the shop. Yes he had a 2 litre bottle of cider in the fridge which was opened but not finished (even with me having a glass), and the same yesterday. This morning I noticed in the Browser history some Google serches about the causes of dark urine (sorry, TMI) and various websites visited about liver problems, etc.
Now, I know 10 units of cider a day isn't perfect. But it's a darn sight better than 24 units.
I'm not getting too carried away but I think he may be seeing the light :T
