  • I've had a lovely surprise today. I really thought I was going to have to pay for the petrol in my car to get to work and food for tonight with the credit card again but my husband has unexpectedly been paid today. I'm sure it should have been tomorrow. I will also be getting paid on Friday and weekly after that from the new job I have started. This means I can now start tackling the debt properly and hopefully making an extra payment EVERY week. I'm actually feeling quite excited about the numbers coming down.

Been AWOL for a few weeks, June has been a bit of a nightmare month for expenditure, so hoping to get back into the swing again in July. £3.12 paid off today.

All ideas of how to rekindle my motivation really welcome!

    Hi everyone,
I'd really like to join in this thread :)
It's such a good idea, and as the OP said, I can't quite manage as much as the other challenges.
I have just over £42000 of debt PLUS mortgage, so have a long way to go. But I've got to start somewhere.

The first debt I want to tackle is No. 1 overdraft which is £3000.00. Because not even minimum payments are made to this I'm going to find it hard, but try I shall. Having done a proper budget for the first time in two years, I have £28.35, so that's my starting payment to the OD each month, and I shall see what else I can pay in each week.

Thanks for the encouragement to face up to this :T

  • I'm beginning to see that money saving is something of a skill. A skill I haven't mastered yet. I just had to have my hair cut and coloured today as we have an event this weekend but it cost £83:eek: That would have been a fabulous "extra payment". I feel quite sick about it. I have been going to this hairdresser for at least 5 years so I knew how much it would be. I did enquire at other hairdressers yesterday but they all said I had to have an allergy test before they could colour my hair for the first time. I should have been more organised and enquired earlier but make no mistake I WILL have found somewhere cheaper for next time.

Does anyone know how much is a reasonable amount to pay for a cut, colour (including foils) and finish?

On a positive note I resisted going for a posh coffee and a cake afterwards so I'm going to put that £5 towards an extra payment.

I pay £68.50 for full head highlights and a cut and blow. If you want to cut costs try your local college as you can get level 3 students to do your hair for a lot less or maybe a mobile hairdresser? They are usually cheaper.

My first weekly payment has just been made to my credit card. All of £4!!! I'm waiting to get paid

I also used to spend £80 ish like you, but I mentioned to my hairdresser that I was going to have to come less often (I already only go 3 or so times a year!) and she suggested that I let her trainee do my hair under her supervision. It's £15 for the cut and the same for a colour, so its now £30 per time and I get the same result :T. I am in there longer though!!!!

Just made an extra payment of £2.69. The £2 was for forgetting to put the lottery on yesterday and I couldn't resist the extra 69p to tidy the balance. I will make another extra payment tomorrow though as usual.
