Okay I have come to confess my sins.

I visited the charity shops today!

Managed to get out of the first one with just a 99p book on the Menopause - I put that down as an essential.

Second one saw me purchasing two tops and a Cath Kidston print duvet cover well I'm sure it's Ikea as I already have similar.

So now the adrenalin has kicked in and in the third I purchased a jumper and a beautiful coat which unfortunately was too small but I decided to speculate to accumulate and sell it on.

    Hope that game plan works!

So there you have it - I was doing so well but now I have been naughty!

What a lovely catch up that has been and I am pleased to read the lovely informative posts from darkstar, and the ensuing discussion points. My friends think it's really interesting to try and have NSDs and are really interested to hear and laugh about how bad I am at this! However, my commitment is there but I am not minimalist and cannot resist the sales if I know I can buy things for 25% of the price that I would have to pay otherwise (eg Boots 75% sale haircare and toletries, Marks kids clothes etc). I am spending less than I would have done previously though and am thinking through purchases which is a step forward for me. :)
Have also had to pay out for kids clubs at school and extra curricular activities which takes up a fair bit but I consider this essential for development (sports and beavers/cubs)

My next aim is to not spend on any extras from my next pay packet at all. I guesstimate that I can save £500 by end Feb. Wish me luck!

Well I'm 2 weeks in and haven't spent a penny on anything but food. Went to town last week and came back with only 3 library books even though my daughter dragged me round the shops. Going to stay away from town today.

Managed to get a £10 voucher from a survey site and was soooo tempted to get a dvd box set I've had on my wishlist but did the sensible thing and bought some nappies (who knew Amazon sold nappies cheaper than the supermarkets??) I figured its too early in the year for dvds, there is still plenty to catch up on the iplayer and there will be other vouchers coming soon. I'm secretly enjoying my self control - there is very little I actually neeeeeed. 50 weeks to go!

Well done - I'm not sure I would have done so well! :T
  • hello everyone! Have something to declare! bought (another) sewing machine off of ebay - this time it was £10.50! Absolute bargain! Can't wait to collect it! Its a bit of a distance from me - although drive-able of course, but it is about 12 miles away from where I am going on Monday, hopefully the seller will come back to me and say I can collect tomorrow evening :T then I am going to my friends after collecting it for dinner & sewing lessons!

Hope you're all staying strong out there! x

  • week 2 of 52: Its been abit easyer this week even no at the begining of it as I already confessed, I did buy a dvd (I really really really really wanted it and it was half price!). :o .Even no it was on sale still as a no no. But I saw my bank statement yesturday and it as very small, not alot of entry's since the 1st. :D As someone has already said on here "baby steps" for what I was like before i'm very much on cold turkey as it is. I've been sorting and find so much stuff I forgot I had. So i've been getting a buzz out of that. I decided to go away before my 30th which is Aug. Im gonna use the money for that and save all the rest and it be put away as savings. I'm also filling my time when im not looking after my monkey's with alot of reading. I've joined the online geek book club :D fantastic book i'm reading. Finding out how much I missed just stilling down with a book. Even no i found out my readitswapit book only cost 98p to send of i'm still spending money so I mite only use that site if I really want a certain book. After all i do have plenty of books already to read and a free book shop locally. Done a big £140 food shop this week of non perishables for the month or so, used the first time voucher for sainburys so i got a tenner off . Finished getting all my stuff i brought before xmas through but im now waiting for my card bills. :o
Love to see people are still posting here and are still going and a big well done to the ones that have brought nothing but food since the 1st!

Quite much of essential spending has gone to things that were done badly and have to be redone... I had a plastering done to a wall of my kitchen and looks awfully rugged in all the corners, as if a mice had been at it, so I bought paste to smooth it out. I invited the workman to see it, but I realised he would make an ebvn bigger mess trying to fix it. My son said we do the redecor ourselves instead of reinviting the same person. It is Ok to reduce spending but some giving is needed to charities as well, all sorts, from art to lifeboats etc. They depend on the public.

Luckily, I found in John Lewis a 1L eggshell for £3 Sandersons remnant for some customer who did not want it and left it there a v beautiful pastel colour ... enough to do the kitchen walls and ceilling. There are some water stains on the walls but heard that undercoat (cheap) will do, So instead of asking the handy (£200) we will save £180 and whatever the result will be it will be. I had decided professional cleaning of some areas at home but when I heard the cleaners wanted £52 for just hall and staircase... I almost fainted and decided it was time to buy a cheap steam cleaner £59.95 guaranteed parts and labour for 2 years
