Hi Peeps,
Well I did my grocery shopping today, I went armed with a list and stuck to it. I didn't buy anything that wasn't on the list and there was also a couple of things that were on the list that I didn't buy as the prices had gone up too much (up by 31% you just know those products are going to be 'on offer' in a couple of weeks), so I thought I'd get them somewhere else. Anyway I went through check-out and paid cash and now only have $2.54 to last me until next Friday, so it looks like I'll have to do without the things I didn't get and I know for sure that I won't be buying anything I'm not supposed to - cos I just ain't got the cash0 -

Thanks for mentioning those sites, I'd not heard of them but have now spent hours reading them, they are really inspiring and good to remind yourself why actually there is very little we "need" to buy. :T"Adoption Loss is the only trauma in the world where the victims are expected by the whole of society to be grateful" - The Reverend Keith C. I'm enjoying reading Bemorewithless. Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

Me too, I've spent at least 4 hours today reading that and the essays on theminimalist! Now I need to actually follow the advice rather than just read about it!

Unfortunately goods and services that were in the past the non-essentials have become essentials: internet connection, for instance; one needs an email account to find a job and even buy a pot of paint online. TV is not a necessity any longer for many people, I get the progs from my laptop. No need to buy ink and paper like in the past to post applications and letters.
However, you can find a job without owning a car and some do not even have a driving licence, and never had one driving lesson; Simply many use public transport. But helps to have a fixed address to get a job. In the past when people owned a house they did not always pay insurance; but now you need to pay insurance when you want a mortgage. But there are people who pay mortgage and building insurance but cannot claims approved and still you have to pay excess and all that.... Repairs in the past did not cost so much but today they do, and even when they are finished a lot of these are not done well and have to be redone.
Much cost today is caused by unnecessary damages."I'll be back."0 -
Oh dear, I'm not very good at this it seems! I bought the Big hair in Wilkinsons - £20. I also bought DH another suit in the Mand S sale as I thought the first order was about to be cancelled (delivery date was put back to end of February and then dispatched today an hour later - very strange). That's it for now - work tomorrow so wondering whether to ride my bike into work or use public transport. I love the bike once the evenings are longer but hate riding on busy roads in the dark as car drivers just don't seem to notice you as much. However, riding the bike would recoup some of what I have spent on non essentials. What to do!0
