Definitely definitely stay a way from Grabbit!
NSD for me today.
I'm getting my hair colour done tomorrow but booked it before Christmas and it's with a student at Trevor Sorbie - free but I give them a tip so I won't count that.
I think the urge to shop is an ingrained habit - even though I'm not a great shopper but as I have already mentioned charity shops are my down fall! Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

I have spent money £47.07:eek: on the BHS sale online today and am half kicking myself for being so weak and half elated at the bargains! I did resist the oh so cute things on dotcomgifts sale though.
Note to self - do not browse grabbit. It will end in parting with cash needlessly, and ultimately, if it continues no new house:(.
No more spending, back on track. The wall of shame will definitely aid me:).

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm so pleased it wasn't me :rotfl:
Well done for resisting the the dotcomgifts :A, and you never know, maybe you could covet the BHS stuff for a while and then have another think and maybe return then. Personally I quite like the thrill of buying something, but then also experiencing the feeling of, what should I call it? smugness :rotfl:of returning something.0 -
Hi all, Have had great fun reading this post. To be honest I have always lived spending as little as possible. I becomes a way of life. In fact I do not enjoy spending money, I prefer to see my savings balance increase! My mom on the other hand loves to spend, money burns a hole in her pocket so she just has to spend it. She gets pleasure from spending, I get pleasure from saving. I will also join the pledge! Where do I sign!0

Hi everybody
Well I've given it some thought and have decided to join this challange.
My rules:
No clothes shopping
This doesn't include essential underwear. Have a full wardrobe so should be easy. Will talk to sister about having regular swapping seasons which we do informally anyway.
No shoes
unless they are unrepairable and absolutely needed
No cds dvds books
Only buy these with vouchers from surveys/loyalty points etc. Use library more, look into free downloads, start lending and borrowing dvds from friends and family
Only buy makeup, hair dye, creams with loyalty points/vouchers
This will be the toughest for me as this is my weakness. Cannot go makeup hair dye free so I will have to find ways for making it free. Haven't been to hairdressers in years so thats not an issue.
Handmade presents
Obviously try and get people on board for this so its not such a shock, but I was thinking;
homemade wine (got the equipment)
cookies and cupcakes
flowers from my garden
vegetables from the garden
my services (can think of loads here)
(does this sound bonkers?Any more ideas welcome)
Evenings out
As I don't want to alienate people by saying no to every invitation out was thinking that I could brush up on my cooking skills and invite people to us rather than sitting in a pub.
So I'm in. I'm not including the kids in this as they are constantly needybut I'm going to be more strict with my dd's pocket money - when its done its done! OH bless him never buys anything anyway - he hates shopping so when he does buy something its because its an absolute necessity.
Good luck to everyone doing this I'll post any successes or failures.

^^ good luck, sounds great. Do you knit/crochet as could add that to the homemade presents list - or paint/art stuff?
I'm finding it difficult re friends - as they still want to go out and I can't really afford it, I am thinking of meeting up for eating first and just having a soft drink when out, I don't currently want to waste money on food out plus I don't find much decent veggie food when eating out anyway so seems a waste.
I'm due to go into town later and I will have to really restrict any sales shopping, there are a few things I really WANT! (don't need though!)0 -
Hi kirri, no can't knit but can sew a bit. I might peruse the craft section in the library for ideas.0

Well I have returned from sitting in the hairdressers from Twelve until Four Thirty and managed to say no no no to all the shops saying Sale Sale Sale in Covent Garden!
I did pop into Marks for a much needed sandwich and proceeded to purchase the dinner getting only deals and reduced items so I am very pleased! Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
