Hello everyone,
Please put me down for a 1lb loss ragz. Bit disappointing as I started exercising at last this week and have done 2 miles brisk walking on the treadmill everynight. Only 20 minutes but better than 20 minutes in front of the tele and quite difficult to eat on!!
Thankyou, Penguinnweight loss 6/21 lbs0 -
Thanks Skint_Catt.
I struggle to find snack on a budget that i like, and fruit seems so blinkin expensive sometimes!!!0 -
I have to eat an ultra-low fat diet for medical reasons and it's not too expensive. I do have to be a little careful as some of the suggestions that the dieticians gave me can work out a bit expensive. But overall it's very cheap as there's absolutely no temptation to eat out, get a takeaway or opt for junk - it's simply not doable! My mainstays are:
Meats & proteins: Chicken, tuna, value prawns, beans and pulses, the occasional egg.
Carbs (very filling and low calorie density): sack-bought potatoes (esp. as jacket potatoes & HM chips) pasta, noodles and rice (last two bulk-bought from oriental supermarket)
Veggies: I grow some of my own but not nearly enough to get by. Tend to go seasonal and buy cheaper veg where possible, including for salads (so at the moment lots of HM coleslaw and bean salads) and lots and lots of soups. I second value stir-fry mix - fantastic! I do sprout my own beans sometimes.
Lots of herbs and spices to perk it all up!
Snack-wise, I suggest something that is filling - half a jacket potato with some HM coleslaw or some beans,HM soup, HM lentil daal, ryvita and marmite or very-low-fat soft cheese, tuna sandwich are all quite cheap and filling, but they do require some degree of forward planning.
Hope that helps!0 -
Sugar addiction, it's all about blood sugar levels and insulin production. You have sugar (this is true for carbs like bread too for those of you who don't have a sweet tooth), your blood glucose goes up... in response your body releases insulin which lowers your blood sugar. It often goes too far and leaves you needing more sugar and so the cycle continues, with blood sugar and energy levels yoyo-ing like crazy and mood swings and cravings etc etc (This is why diabetics and people with insulin resistance are recommended a low GI diet, to manage these extremes of insulin production/make up for the lack of it)
Our bodies are designed to take in energy for survival so we are hardwired to want sugar (basically, food in general but it all comes down to glucose) so the brain rewards us with endorphins when we eat and encourages us to do it again. Hence the addiction for some people and the glucose/insulin cycle. Don't assume your body knows you are trying to diet, it doesn't, as far as your body is aware you are in danger of starvation at any moment... some people are better at overriding this, some people are more inclined to sugar addiction than others (as with most addictions).
Thanks Ragz. So that explains what is going on with me and sugar. I wish my body was one of those better at overriding it;)Summer weightloss challenge

I'm losing weight at the moment. I make sure I get my 5 a day or more in my meals and snack on value/smart price biscuits plus tea. Just plain biccies like Nice, Rich Tea, etc. Very cheap and very OS as well
. I don't make biscuits, cakes, etc - I'd eat them too quickly.
I never used to be a cuppa and a biccie person but it's working really well for me now. It's just a little something to get me to my next meal if I need it.
The other thing I do is make sure my evening meal is a big one - I know they say not to do that but it keeps me full and stops the evening munchies. Or I plan a dessert but eat it quite a bit after the meal instead of a snack."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Evening all.

L - Sliced ham, toms and coleslaw.

Bit late reporting in but it's been 'one of those days'.
It's a STS week. Well, I am sure that the scales show a SLIGHT loss but if I'm honest, not enough to register. However I'm sticking to my 'no sugar in drinks' plan and it's getting easier.
Today: Br. small bowl All Bran and raisins
Lunch. 1 slice roast pork, 1 roast potato, loads of veg.
Tea. 1 slice toast & baked beans
Snacks. 1 apple & 1 digestive biscuit.I believe that friends are quiet angels
