jay2 do you like clementines? I find one of those is quite nice when I fancy something sweet, and they are small enough to have a couple.

Thanks for replying JBD. I'm not fond of clementines. I dislike apples less and I love berries (frozen ones on offer are affordable) so I'll focus on eating those. :)

Hey, folks! Just joined the forum and this sounds like my kind of thread!!;)
I made the decision this year to save my waistline and my bank balance by cooking more things from scratch. Its going really well! The freezer is now full of home cooked meals rather then slimming ready meals, homemade soups, bread, cakes, etc. Lots of fruit and veg that has been frozen for later rather then thrown coz it looked abit manky.:o
I have a slow cooker that Im getting to grips with and will be investing in a blender for yummy soups and smoothies. Also started to get fit by walking the dogs more often and digging out the exercise DVDs (much cheaper then the gym!).
I lost 1st 4Ibs for January so something must be working!! :D

Welcome rubberbiscuit! What a fantastic weight loss in one month. :T:T:T

I had 2 fried eggs and some pitta bread for lunch, followed by a 1 hour walk in the snow.

I popped into the shops and bought ready made pizzas for supper. Not really good for us but we all love them and we've eaten healthily all week.

  • :j1lb Lost hopefully to be never found again!

been eating a bit more this week as was starting to feel very sluggish but im hoping next week i can reduce the calories back down by 500 or so a day to kick start it again.

Made some very spicy red pepper and lentil soup but i think i may have added a few too many chillies :rotfl: well spice is meant to raise metabolism so mine should be super quick next week after my lunches of rocket fuel!

  • Hello everyone:wave:

Been MIA for a while as I got my head round forthcoming operation. Missed weigh in last week, and spent two weeks mainly not thinking about diet. Weighed myself today and have to report 1lb gain:eek:

Thanks everyone else who posted gains - makes me feel better that I'm not the only one. And well done everyone who STS or lost:j

My plan for next week is to improve my focus, and try to fit in a little exercise.

    Have a great weekend.

Rubberbiscuit - Welcome, great loss so far, hope you stay with us it sounds like you could share some tips.
Silkstrut - Welcome, good luck with the Race For Life, you have reminded me to sign up again. Do you want me to add your 8lb target to the challenge?I had a GOOD day! Decided to start using MyFitnessPal again, by the end of the day I was under (because of going out for a jog/walk this morning) so it told me off so I had to eat a packet of animal biscuits and have another hot chocolate!

Breakfast - Fruit and fibre with semi-skim milk 190cal
    Snack - caramel ricecake 40cal
Lunch - Ham and salad with a tiny bit of yogurt dressing 200cal
    Snack - 5 smarties 25cal, actimel yogurt drink X2 200cal
Dinner - Baked cod, new potatoes, broccoli and chargrilled veg with parsley sauce 500cal
    Pudding - chocolate mousse 80cal
Snacks - Hot chocolate with a dash of whole milk and animal biscuits 155cal
    Total 1355cal

Exercise - 30 minutes downhill jog and uphill brisk walking 200cal
Net 1155cal but I'm sure a few more sneaked in somewhere... coffee with one sugar this morning and I think the parsley sauce had more calories as I made it myself. Very pleased with today and hoping for good day tomorrow too.

The Rosemary Conelly Magasine I bought was better than I thought, a lot more REAL food and nutrition info (with more emphasis on exercise too) than WW or SW and a lot of 'Old Style' recipes I actually want to make and that OH would eat! WW and SW seemed to have a LOT of dessert recipes and fancy looking things I would never eat. The success stories have given me renewed motivation too, if these people can get from a size 24 to a 10 without giving up then surely I can drop ONE size?!

An interesting article by a psychologist about self sabotage really spoke to me. In order give ourselves an excuse for failure we often unconsciously don't try our best, so that we can then say things like "Oh well I would have lost weight this week but I ..." and then don't face failing when we have really tried so we will look bad/feel like a failure (either to others or ourselves). Apparently this goes for job interviews, exams etc, people will stay up late the night before or have a hangover or something and then have a ready made excuse for not doing well rather than failing for no obvious reason and feeling they may be stupid... (it's all about protecting the "self" apparently, psychology wise).
He recommends looking at it as a learning curve rather than a challenge, so when we don't do as well as we like we can see it as still needing to learn more rather than being a failure.

I may well be guilty of these behaviours myself, especially with trying to lose weight so it gave me a lot to think about and I think it could well be true...

  • That's really interesting Ragz, a friend of mine who's a life coach is fond of the question

"if you knew you couldn't fail, what would you do?"

It really is true, we set ourselves up to fail often and then are almost pleased when we do....
