Ok - breakfast - salmon with peas and broad beans:eek:I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
OG hope you get your overlocker to work. I'd love to get my machine out but it's on a shelf deep under the stairs and I can't do it, so there it's stayed - since I moved in 10 years ago! My drink is lime juice with soda, wasn't funny when one barmaid misheard me, teetotal, and served lime and cider  _pale_
Mollie the breakfast sounds good! I'd think nothing of having cold curry, or pick at sausages in the fridge if the mood takes me. Not done it for a long time but now you mention it.....;)
rs while it's this warm I keep a 4-pint milk container in the fridge topped up with tap water (don't believe in wasting plastic) and decant it into a drinking flask so it stays cool. Apart from my first cuppa which is essential if I'm to stay sane-ish, I've banned myself from the tea cupboard.
MrsCD my reason for the madness of cleaning the house to within an inch of its life before I go away is that if there's a fire I don't want the firemen to think I'm a sloven. Nuts! :rotfl:

Can't claim them as my own as I came by the recipe on SW and adapted but they're delish.
Thai Style Chicken cakes.
Serves 4
2-3 chicken breasts
1 chilli (chopped)
1 med onion ( " )
2 cloves garlic ( ")
zest and juice of a lime
1" grated fresh ginger
1 tbsp ground coriander
s & p
The whole lot goes in the food pro and pulse until mixed finely. Then I put large spoonfuls in a very non stick pan to dry fry. I use my trusted Tefal pan as I need no oil with that.
They are lovely with salad, very fresh tasting.
I've just been given a box of chocolates from one of those chocolate tasting clubs. ARghhh eaten 6. :mad:Deleted_User wrote: »And the other...
Lemony Chicken Risotto
1) Dice some onions finely into small cubes or strips.
2a) In a microwavable tub put about 150g of plain long grain rice or similar, add hot water to cover, and cook as per packet instructions - usually about 4-5 minutes. When cooked, remove and drain.
2b) While rice is cooking in the microwave, take a vegetable stock cube and melt it in a little hot water. You wont need a lot, literally enough to cover the bottom of the wok when added to the recipe.
3) In a large wok, heat some oil (again, I use FryLight for this)
4) Add the chicken to the wok. I use Quorn chicken pieces which are already diced for me so it's simpler and healthier.
5) Add the veggie stock, a few spoonfuls at a time. Allow it to be absorbed into the chicken before adding more.
6) When chicken is beginning to cook, add chopped onion and a tin of sweetcorn (juice drained off). Stir well.
7) Add salt and pepper to taste (only a little). Stir well.
8) Add lemon juice. I use the lemon juice in the bottle (for pancake toppings) but you can use fresh as well. Stir so the flavour really seeps into the chicken.
9) Add the rice a little at a time. Stir well to prevent it sticking to the bottom of the wok.
10) Add more lemon juice so the rice can absorb the flavour as well. Stir.
11) Serve, or leave to cool before portioning.
Thanks for the receipes- im going to give these two a try (Yum YUM!)

Sparrer, when we had a fire in our house I was absolutely stunned to see these long, black 'webs' hanging all over from the ceiling. It looked like a house that hadn't seen a clean for years. I couldn't understand why I'd never seen them before but thought all the soot had just shown them up.
I was so humiliated that I was rushing around with a coat hanger frantically trying to hook them down before the ins assessor arrived.
When he walked in he said straightaway that it was clear to see it was a 'protein fire' (chip pan) as it causes 'protein strands' to form all round the ceilings.
Phew, and there was me thinking I might get a visit from Kim & Aggie.
Food today consisted so far -
Iced Coffee
3 cream crackers plain.
Not sure how its going to go today. Family member being released from hospital, just a short visit this time, so I'm rushing around airing the room and frantically thinking what to cook that might be appreciated.
I can't think. Shall play it by ear.
I however, have no probs eating and a few more chocs were eaten last night. WHY do I do this before a WI. Its like I do it on purpose. :wall: Got a feeling that 5lb I've lost on this challenge is going right back on. :mad:I could easy do that in a bad week.
Not to worry. I'll keep trying.
On a positive note- my spring onions, peppers, chillis, beetroot leaves, broad beans and salad leaves are all abundant now in garden so I've plenty of healthy stuff to eat.
Does anyone that grows on here have a particular type of lettuce that they would recommend? Mine are all mixed leaves at present and the snails had my Webs Wonderful.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

I will have salad for lunch :T:T:T
Yes, very similar because I used up some pilau rice and some crispy bacon bits, and warmed the whole lot in the mw for a few seconds. I know it's hot but don't like fridge cold food. sparrer ..I don't clean the house in case firemen turn up (well, I will NOW, now that you've pointed it out :rotfl:)...I do it in case something happens to me when I'm away and I don't get home...the thought of someone else having to go to my house and I've left it in a mess...oh, not good
And I don't like fridge cold food either, when I have salad it has to be prepared in advance so I can eat it when it's warmed up a bit
If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?0 -
Really? That's where I was, too! I wonder if we passed each other at some point?
Wow! I wonder if we did? We were only there on the Sunday and we were sitting up in the seating area at the very top. Wasn't it great?!what did you eat? The food all looked so good! It was a slightly depressing diet day though with loads of women wandering around in very little clothing and me feeling like a giant blob!
