ellie - I've no idea how long it will keep in a fridge but it freezes well and will make great gravies. That or you could suck a cube of it.
Hello cheerfulness, love your name!
omg, how obsessed with chocolate am I just now?...I read your reply and thought "yes, I like my chocolate kept in the fridge, but gravy? really? chocolate gravy? :rotfl:
Then I remembered I'd asked how long wine would keep...can you tell I don't need to know any more?...it's all gone
If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?0 -
(Seriously, does anyone know how long an opened (screw top) bottle of wine will keep okay?)
We have screw top bottles of wine at work, they generally keep well for over a week. I shouldnt worry about that going off!
Fascinating fact for anyone who didnt know this.......rose wine is made in the same way as white. Only to give it the rose colouring they leave it to "steep" mixed in with the red peel from the red grapes...the longer it is left, the redder/pinker the colour of the resulting wine.0 -
sparrer, how disappointing when it was your special treat. If this was America you'd be suing them...why would you sell food so hot it burns people???
I really only have myself to blame ellie, I like the carrier bags of curry in Mr M as you get everything you need in them but for some reason instead of the tikka (which is by far the spiciest I can take) I picked up the madras. I thought nothing of it until I tasted it - well they do look similar!
It was okay though because I'd also bought the fresh cream scones as a special treat, and cooled my mouth down with the sweetest melon I've had for ages which was only 89p in @ldi so that helped salve my wounded pride0 -
I’ve lost 2 stone now since the start of the year and reached a weight that I am now happy with. So I will be leaving this thread behind (not that I was here that much anyway!) and say a big thank you to you all for helping me to keep on the right path and to wish you all luck with achieving your goals and to find that right balance.

Morning and thanks for the welcome.
I checked up and my weight loss so far is 20lbs as I thought so I think I'll aim for a 30lbs loss in the challenge over the 13 weeks. Should be doable for me. We'll see.
Food today planned:
Iced coffee
Banana, natural yogurt, walnuts & tsp honey
HM breadcake with egg salad filling
HM Coq au vin with steamed carrots, peas & cauli
Snacks- apple, watermelon and a slice of seed cake when mum arrives for the day.
ellie - wasn't quick enough on the keyboard then to save your wine. lol Chocolate gravy..??? I wouldn't rule it out.
I better get off and hang the washing before getting those breadcakes made. The dough's happily whirling in the BM. Then should just have time to plant out my courgettes. So behind this year!AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

rhcp ...well done! You've done really well :T :T :TDeleted_User wrote: »We have screw top bottles of wine at work, they generally keep well for over a week. I shouldnt worry about that going off!
I think my bottle had been open 9 or 10 days, so obviously drank it just in time
cheerfulness, I'm not even going to think about chocolate gravy :rotfl:I'm going to be strong and not have chocolate for a while, it's too addictive. I'm shocked how easy it was to get hooked on it again.
So everyone, it's the first Monday of our new challenge, so a question to encourage and remind us all...
What are the 3 main reasons you want to lose weight?
For myself
1. I'm hoping that carrying less weight will ease the pain I'm in every day. I know it won't solve my back problem, but it might help with knees, feet, etc.
2. I absolutely dread getting diabetes, and know being overweight increases the risk (fat and fifty, or is it fat and forty?) On a more general level, it would be nice to be able to go to a GP with a problem, and not be told "well you need to lose weight". Really? I hadn't noticed! Even worse when the GP is fat tooI haven't been to a GP for years, when I'm desperate I pay to see an osteopath.
3. I want to feel confident and sexy again (for me, not some guy!) and know that my clothes look really good on me. At my age, if I don't hurry up, it'll be too late to wear the kind of clothes I like. I want ONE size in my wardrobe :rotfl:
ETA - and of course, if I ever bump into my ex, I want to look *hot*, so he's cursing the day he let me go :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

morning all
quick post as nipping out to the bank before we get rain, very cloudy here. work tonight and few other bits and bobs to sort out so a busy busy day. have measured myself too this morning so I can keep track over the coming weeks.
b - cheese on 2 (small) slices toast, 2 x choc biccies
l - tuna salad, banana
d - leftover veggie noodles from takeaway yesterday
s - none, hopefully
e- walking around shops, plus travel to/from work and stairs etc while i'm there
Happy 1st of the month
eta:What are the 3 main reasons you want to lose weight?
1) So I can fit into my clothes. I used to be a size 18+ 10 years ago during college, and then I shrunk down to a size 16 3-4 years ago. I'm currently alternating between 14 and 16 depending on the fit and the shape (and the shop!) and would like to be able to go for more size 14'sAlso, my waistcoat at work is getting tight, need to do something about that!!!
2) Heart problems: my late DD had complications with his heart and some of it was down to his lifestyle. I dont want to die in my sleep like he did just because parts of me gave up.
3) Confidence/attractiveness: I dont think I'm bad looking, just fyi! I'm reasonably confident but that could do with a bit of a boost. It's got nothing to do with finding a man, I think I'm hard pushed to find a decent one in this day and age (lol) with the job I have. I'd just like to do it for ME so when I wake up I dont feel like I've used and abused myself with regard to food.0 -
Hello everyone, and thanks for the warm welcome.
I've got a bad case of the Monday morning grumps at the moment - I know I need to lose weight but the thought of spending the next however many months living on salad doesn't exactly fill me with joy, or anything except an endless parade of lettuce leaves.(I'm exaggerating - I won't be eating a lot of salad as I'm generally not keen on it - I'm just feeling grumpy.
)
What are the 3 main reasons you want to lose weight?
1) At the moment I'm still mostly wearing my winter clothes as most of my summer ones are too tight, so my top reason has got to be to get back into things that fit me last year.
2) To stop myself wincing everytime I walk into the ladies' loos at work: one wall is mirrored and I hate meeting the eyes of the beach ball on legs that's just walked in.
3) To stop my DM - who I love dearly, I hasten to add - mentioning my weight. Every. Time. I. See. Her. I know she means well, but jeez it's annoying! (Now desperately hoping she doesn't see this post.)
My plan for today is:
B - LF cherry yoghurt with a snack-pack of cranberry granola
S - one rich tea biscuit (biscuits at 10am have become a tradition in our office, and rich teas are about the lowest calorie option unless I go without completely)
L - 4x spinach pakoras; mixed salad with a couple of spoonfuls of coleslaw; small slice of HM bread (no butter); apple
D - veg chilli with 3 or 4 mini garlic breads (I can't remember quite how big they are - about bite-sized, I think - so the number will depend on the size)
rhcp - very well done! :TBack after a very long break!0 -
