Hi. My 3 reasons to lose weight

    1. to reduce the number of clothes in my wardrobe and have just 1size.
    2. To try and ease the pressure on my knees and hips and hopefully help stop them getting any worse.
3.Just to help me look and feel better

Well I lost a pound this morning! Unfortunately it was the same pound I've lost about 3 times already..... if it's still gone by Friday then I'll count it.

I started losing weight this time because I was beginning to feel quite uncomfortable. In the past it was more down to vanity because I never felt unwell but I was starting to find everyday life more difficult. This time I haven't followed a proper full-on diet, just tried to eat the same foods as DH but in "normal" amounts. I have had to cut out chocolate completely because I am incapable of eating a little bit. It has to be the whole bar, or even the whole multipack. Thank you to those selfless souls who tried the new chocolate so I didn't have to;) I've cut out biscuits too, although I'm not so bothered about them, and I limit myself to occasional cake and only small bits.

It can be quite lonely when you are trying to lose weight and I find it incredibly hard to talk about in real life, so reading this thread has been very helpful to me.

I just hope that even if I never lose any more, I can keep off what I have lost so far. I'm still in the overweight range but no longer obese, or morbidly obese as I was 3 years ago.

Luckily I haven't needed to go to the doctor for years but I was really worried about what they would say if I did need treatment. Now I obviously hope I still won't need to go, but at least I won't be so ashamed of myself.

Poor KW, she's doing a sterling job trying to keep everybody happy ;)
3 reasons for losing weight -
    1. COPD - at 12 1/2 stone/4 feet 11 1/2 inches (looked as round as a ball!) I could barely breathe and was hospitalised more than once with constant chest infections. Needed 9 courses of steroids/anti-b's in the first year. Today I'm 3 stones lighter and so far only needed 1 course this year :D
    2. wrinkles, grey complexion, limp greasy hair, lethargy all improved 100% since putting the right food in my body
    3. Financially much better off. It's a fact that it's cheaper to eat fresh food rather than processed junk in boxes, packets etc.
All in all a win win situation.

    B - slice hm toast & marmalade
D - Out with DD and DGD2, had pulled pork burger & chips. Left half the bun and most of the chips. Chocolate cake & ice cream
T - Maybe a salad if I feel like it
    S - fresh fruit
E - tried on dozens of dresses looking for the right one for DS's graduation next week, can't believe how exhausting it in trying to buy a dress! Two were perfect and I had such a job deciding which would be right I had to get them both :o

KW, thank you for taking on the monitor role again, we are very grateful

Maybe if I put my 3 reasons for wanting lose weight it will inspire me to achieve more

    1. To be a comfortable size 12. I started because all my size up clothes were feeling tight and I refused to go up another! Now I'm down a size but not always comfortably and I'd like to be able to buy everything in the same size
    2. To be happy with the way I look in photos. I often think I look ok then I see a photo or catch sight of myself in a window and hate it! I'd like to look better without always thinking "hold it in for the camera!"
    3. Age! I'm 43 now and really feel that if I don't lose weight now, it will just get harder and harder and I will just keep going (or growing) the wrong way! it's now or never!

I have 4 weeks until I go on holiday.

I am making this austerity month both weight and money wise!!

The Pounds in my bank account are vanishing too quickly and the Pounds on my body aren't!

So, this month, every penny out and every calorie in are being counted and guarded.

That way, I can start my holiday in better shape and have less damage control to do afterwards!

I'm so cross with myself. I lost two stone last year for my sons wedding, down to12 stone with another two to go and managed to tear my cartilage running.
So unable to exercise and a whole stone back on. I'm so fed up, I just can't seem to get back on track. I've had the cartlidge done but still only three weeks in, not able to walk far yet.
But it's eating that's really getting me down, I just can't stop eating. My meals are good and healthy lots of fresh foods, salad and fruit, but I just ruin it all with my eating in between, crisps chocolate whatever I can find, normally in secret. I know what I should be doing, I know how to do it, I just can't control the compulsive eating.
If anyone has any ideas I would be eternally grateful.:(

We all have setbacks Julie. I was much the same as you last summer ( although it was discs in my back, not cartilage), I couldn't exercise, could hardly move at all, and I ate far too much rubbish and put on all the weight I'd lost and more.
I don't have any words of wisdom, I think eventually there's a trigger and you just get fed up with it, and decide to lose weight again. Could you try making a pros and cons list of the effects if you choose to eat or lose weight? Or a list of all the reasons you want to diet?

There's been a lot of interesting answers to why we want to lose weight...a lot of hips and knees and aches and pains, and nice clothes!
sparrer, I hadn't thought about wrinkles! In fact, I thought if I lost weight my wrinkles would get worse as the padding disappeared :)

Have been very aware of my food today
    B: cornflakes, sultanas, ss milk
L Panini roll with scraping of soft cheese, ham and the first lettuce leaves from the pot in my garden :D
S: tiny little dish of granola...note to self, next time use a tiny little spoon as well :rotfl:just had a bit of a craving, well, it's better than craving you-know-what!
D:2 slices of toast and marmalade, not what I'd planned at all, but boring tale of DS very late home, parents visit etc meant I didn't cook.

E: hour and a half shopping and paying bills in town, only takes so long cos I'm slow and talk to people. My brain is as much use as cotton wool at the moment, forgot several things, including my bank card to pay bills. Just went to the bank and said I'd forgotten my card, could I have some money out, and they said how much would you like Ellie...try doing that in the city :)

    3 Reasons for loosing weight...

    1. To ease the pain in my poor knees and so I don't have to sing as I go up the stairs to hide my creaking bones.

    2. For my kids, I never have enough energy to play with them, and if I get down on the floor to play its a struggle to get up again.

    3. I'm sick of wearing elasticated waist bands!

Any hoo am going to post my eats everyday to try and shame myself into behaving.

    B. 2 slice seedy toast 2 l/f cheese triangles
    L. Prawn noodle salad, apple, pear
    S. handful of soy beans, beetroot, slice of bread
    D. 2 roast rolls, scotch egg, biscuit (shortbread)

    Hi All

I've been really busy today but I thought I would add my tuppence worth :j:j:j

I know it's weeks before the challenge ends and it is easy not to bother too much at the beginning as there is plenty of time to catch up half way through..... Well, there isn't.... It doesn't work like that, we've got to be motivated from week one of the challenge so that we have a chance.... as it tends to tail off nearer the end...

If you can, try to clear all temptations out of the house... ... If it is not in the cupboard, you can't eat it when you are bored, upset, or just looking for a munchie...

If you don't eat sweet things for a while, you stop craving for sugar and you can easily manage without the chocs etc etc... but, remember, temptation is just around the corner....

I find it more motivating to hang an article of clothing that is a size smaller on the outside of the wardrobe door and try it on once a week....It feels great when you can finally get it on... and once it goes slack.... well, that's just a terrific feeling... :j:j:j I think it is better than just going by scales, as your weight can fluctuate so much in a day, let alone a week.... especially if you move it all over the bathroom floor

Having lost some weight since Christmas, I think the best thing is the fact that, although I am still fat, I feel neat and think I look tidier as I have come down several sizes...

The fact that I don't have to hang onto the bannister to drag myself up the stairs.... and, what puts a smile on my face, is the fact that I can get up out of a chair without using my hands... It's the small things that matter....

Last year, when I was gardening.... I had to use the garden fork to hoist myself up off my knees.... I don't have to do that any more.... :T:T:T

So all I am trying to say is..... Good luck everyone on this challenge and let's try and lose as much as we can/want....

and let the humour shine through...

    Hi Julie

My life turned upside-down over 5 years ago... It went from being hardworking, meeting people and having a busy, busy life, to being housebound... Unfortunately, all my friends work so I don't have anyone I can talk to during the day... I don't want to go to neighbours as I don't want to be a saddo.... Anyway, I had to do something before the rope got thrown over a rafter...

You have to find out why you eat.... Mine's was boredom, a feeling of uselessness, and loneliness... I decided at Christmas that, if I didn't do something, I was going to eat myself into a grave...
    • I realised that I was the only one who could help me...
    • Stop buying stuff that I couldn't resist...
    • Change my eating habits to suit me... ie - An eating plan that I could stick to for the rest of my life...
    • Join a forum where I could identify with other people in the same boat
    • Keep myself mentally/physically busy .. hence fixing friends' computers, SLR camera (I've reached about p30 of the manual), look after abandoned animals... do the books for a local charity.. an embroidery machine, which I am trying to learn ... etc etc...

I don't know if this helps but you'll get plenty of help from the forum - I certainly do...

    Inspiring post officeguru :T
(I think your dieting life revolves around your wardrobe :rotfl:)

Tomorrow I'm going to look out something that's too small to hang on my wardrobe, probably jeans...I really want to lose a dress size this challenge.

Oh the torture...DS finally got home from work, and I made him bacon and eggs, I can still smell it :rotfl:I know, I'm too soft, but he works hard :)
