I'm regretting making potato wedges tonight. Potatoes are one of my downfalls, plus I won't be able to weigh myself tomorrow, since I always retain loads of water whenever I eat potatoes.

The good thing is that I don't use oil on them and they are baked with a bit of creole spice, so they do make me drink loads more water than I normally would have.

Fish pie was wonderful as well, but next time I'll be using lots more veggies (followed a recipe this time).

Even though this was my 'free' day for the week, I am still 16 calories under my goal once exercise has been accounted for. :)

Mrs_T_M, just wondering how your wedges turn out? I find myself having to use a good 10 spoons of oil ( hence not eating them on the diet!) just to get a bit of crunch. Do yours go crispy? Or do they taste just as nice a little less crunchy?? xxx
  • Hello,

Usually i'll catch up when I am at work :o We are very quiet at the moment and I need something to filful my day!

Was going to post a load of nonsense when I realised that MFP was correct and it was me being a numpty ... for me to lose 1.5lb per week I should be having 1630 cals (1380 to lose 2lb per week) - I think I will fluctuate between the two :)

This is based on me being 18 stone 1, 5 foot 8, sat down job etc :o Admitting it in writing makes it more daunting but needs must and I must lose weight :D

Day one came in at 1300 ish - no exercise :(

    Tomorrows plans are as follows:
    B: Spicy Porridge
L: HM Cottage Pie, lots of veg.
D: Omelette or low cal snack
S: Banana, Plum & huge Satsuma.
    E: Couch Potato to 5k Week 1, Walk dogs 20 minutes :)

I am officially tracking on MFP and my friend is healthy eating too so we are doing it together :T

They are crispy enough for us, but more of a chewy texture on the outside and fluffy on the inside. We are using red potatoes at the moment (bought 15 kg at 11.6p/kg!). I slice the potatoes into 6 wedges (more if it's a giant potato), toss them into a bowl, sprinkle them with creole seasoning, dump onto a baking tray and bake at 200C for around 40 minutes to an hour. They start getting brown on top and slightly crispy. I don't turn mine over halfway through because, quite frankly, I'm typically busy with something else and I'm lazy, but you could if you wanted them browned on all sides.

I've also heard that if you soak them in water for about half an hour then drain and pat them dry before baking them they will be crisper. Don't quote me on that though, as I have yet to try it.

  • Hi all, bit late posting but weighed my self this morning 191.8lbs (I don't like putting it in stones it just depresses me!) Rubbish start as I had a dinner party tonight but no alcohol and only had a light late breakfast to counter dinner. Other half is away on tour now for two weeks so time to get stuck in to some healthy dinners, and habits. :)

We've had a Vegetarian week here and I am loving the River Cottage Veg Everyday cookbook. Tried the Onion and Beetroot Tarte Tatin's which are yummy, veg ratatouille with pasta etc etc. Made my own veggie enchiladas the other night (full of pulses) which went down very well. Oh we had stuffed peppers with some veggie filled rice this week as well. There are lots of options and my fussy OH really liked everything I came up with.

We have had to sit Emma down and discuss this. She does not want to go vegetarian on principle but wanted to "lose weight" after all the chocolate eaten at Xmas. We've told her she does not need to lose weight but cutting out the chocolate now is going to help in any case. We've told her she still needs to eat fish and chicken (don't mind her dropping red meat as she has never been overly keen on this) and it transpires that she has taken a disliking to the hot dogs served up at karate (something I've been nagging her about for ages). So we've told her that she should be aiming to follow a healthy lifestyle (something we all did prior to Xmas anyway - Grrrr!) however as she has announced to all her friends that she's vegetarian she's sticking with that label. MrM is away on Monday night and I am however planning to cook veggie quesidillas and am having a go at making my own guacamole which I'll obviously have to watch on portion size!

I also saw the hairy bikers programme last night - has anyone tried their cookbook? (the dieting one, obviously :) )
I don't have much patience for following recipes, especially ones that need a lot of ingredients, but some extra inspiration might be helpful.

I've got the recipe book, and of the recipes I've tried, they are all wonderful.

The leek lasagne is really good, along with the baked peppers, Italian meatballs and cajun spiced chicken with potato wedges. I really want to try their paprika chicken, sweet and sour chicken and jambalaya.

We bought the book yesterday from ASDA (now in paperback - only £7.00) and I think I'd have a go at all the recipes. Must admit though I really did not like the sound of the leek lasagne myself. Really like the look of the home made granola and muesli.

Morning all! The last day before going back to work for me:(

Going to do a bit of batch cooking later to make sure I eat properly when tired after work this week.
Just about to walk the dog and then go for a run.

Day 1 and I am already 12 pounds lighter............

..........£12.49 to be exact ;). I decided to buy some new scales to keep an accurate reading.

My starting weight is 14st 7lbs.

Good luck to everyone on the challenge. Hope you all achieve your goals.

This made me laugh. I'm also £16.00 lighter due to the purchase of the Hairy Dieters book and new kitchen scales.

Be careful denying yourself things - it only makes you crave it more.

Why not buy a small bar of chocolate once a week, count it into your daily food intake and then really savour it!

My OH is doing the dry January thing (no alcohol) but I just couldn't do it! But I allow myself 2 carefully measured Bacardi's over the weekend, otherwise I would be crawling the walls.

Alcohol and chocolate are my 2 biggest downfalls when it comes to weight loss

    Louise

We are cutting out alcohol altogether as well. Friday and last night felt strange without them but it does feel better waking up feeling less sluggish.

What are people planning for exercise?

I have started to walk part of the way to work again. Usually I get 2 buses (and probably will do if it's a particularly wet morning). The first bus journey takes about 5-10 minutes but walking takes 20 minutes. I enjoy it actually. Put my earphones in so I feel I have company.

We are also aiming to get back into doing the Biggest Loser DVD starting today once Emma and her friend have gone out. I also want to get back into doing other DVDs/Wii Fit as time allows.
