Caterina - Thank you for the reminder. I have made cheese before. I might take a look next time I go near a waitrose, it's the only place I know of that sells unhomogenised milk and I think they do a skimmed version.

I'd like some good tips on how to avoid carbs in general, because of my lifestyle and work times, I end up eating something quick when I get in, usually a microwave meal - I do try to keep to weightwatchers with regards to this, but its not always possible when we're trying to run the freezer down - money is tight this month as we have a funeral to pay out for in 2 weeks
this morning I had 2 boiled eggs, a sliver of cheese, one slice of fresh bread from the bakery.
lunch was some breaded chicken pieces that have been in the fridge defrosting for four days and needed to be eaten before they spoiled + I had a cookie. (bad me)
dinner tonight is pork fillet with stuffing, then greens, with one aunt bessies yorkshire pud + potatoes (not many potatoes, probably about three large chunks as my mum buys large ones and cuts them into threes when she roasts them).
just looking back at it I'm aware there are plenty of carbs there, but I cant figure out how to lower it more! (and before anyone says it, yes I know it's a diet lacking in fruit and veg - I like veg more than I like fruit unless its a juice drink like ribena or capri sun etc)0 -

I can recommend Dr John Briffa's 'Escape The Diet Trap' and Mark Sissons' 'The Primal Blueprint' which are both more about avoiding processed food and wheat than specifically low carb but are excellent reads.
I've had a really lovely day with DGD and then with DS and DDiL for an hour when they came to collect her and for their regular Sunday meal. We've been discussing the possiblity of purchasing a joint house that we could split into two today and are really keen on the idea. We are going to go and look at one this week but think the split is too unequal and would make the annexe a bit too small.

Just looking at what you've eaten today
B - just don't eat the bread. You'll quite likely find you don't get as hungry as quickly if you don't have it.

Rather than the WW ready meal (which are not only very pricey for what they are but often quite high in carbs and not so high in nutrients) get your mum to cook a little extra when she's making dinner and plate up a couple of portions to put in the freezer. For packed meals, quick lunches etc, try frittatas, chop it up leftovers and put them in a muffin tin, pour over seasoned beaten egg (add herbs, pesto, mustard, whatever takes your fancy), sprinkle with cheese and bake for about 20 mins at 180. These keep well in the fridge, transport easily, microwave well, are edible cold when the microwave breaks down and are low carb. Sausages are good standby as well as long as they have a high meat content, some are only 1 or 2 grams carb per 100g (my personal preference is Black Farmer when they're on special offer)

Thanks Skint, I try to keep calm, don't want to suffer from high blood pressure! And it's not good for the other poor souls on the roads, even if the majority are typical Sunday drivers
Caterina I'm so sorry about your visit home and only wish it had been better for you. You absolutely hit the nail on the head when you said 'we want to love our mums no matter what and they just don't know how to love us back.' We want to love them but they don't exactly make it easy! There's a lot I've forgiven my DM but hard to forget my upbringing, however that's another story.
Mways were quite good today, the usual idiots, crashes and breakdowns but no more hold-us than usual. As for lunch, well...
L - ordered kate and sidney pud, what appeared was a hard-cased madeleine shaped object with thee pieces of meat and a flood of gravy, half the plate was covered in a mound of mushy peas _pale_ and enough great big thick chips (almost roast spud sized!) to feed a platoon. Needless to say I only ate a couple of chips, and the peas didn't get touched at all. (DM ordered a junior roast beef but seems they were a bit low on cow so she got a small slice of beef and a big slice of rather fatty pork). Strange how a place we go to almost every month can have such varying quality.
T - carrot and coriander cup of soup, corned beef and horseradish sandwich
S - in need of something fresh so will finish the 1/4 pineapple that's in the fridge
E - Holding DM up as we walked round the shops, bought and carried a big lounge rug almost to the car when a passer-by took pity on me and carried the rest of the way

I had a chat with DM and she agreed to do that for future; days like today where we had the roast dinner, she tends to plate things up for herself to have the next day anyway (cold meat + stuffing sandwich for lunch or whatever) as she doesnt eat a lot of processed stuff. She's an old school cook and didnt grow up with pasta and rice etc and so she doesnt eat or cook that, if I want that sort of stuff I have to cook it myself.
Having said that, neither DM or myself are curry/overly spicy food fans
As to the potato substitutes - I blimming love swede (and its something DM used to cook me a lot when I was younger)! Cant believe I didnt think of it before.
Yorkshire puds are not normally costly for us - just I had a 50p off coupon for Aunt Bessies the other week and so we picked up a packet of the boat shaped ones for £1 in Mr T's. DM is a big fan of cooking her own, made from scratch, but yes, I probably will be knocking that on the head in the coming weeks anyway.
The frittatas recipe you mention puts me in mind of a quiche type pie my DM also used to make a fair bit, only she used to use cheese and bacon in hers. I think she got it from S. World many moons ago, but yes, I think I will get her to give me the recipe and make the muffin sized version.
Not sure on the meat content of Wall's frozen sausages, that's all we have in the house, but I dont eat a lot of sausages personally. (oo-er lol):rotfl:0 -
There's a lady does a blog called Peace, Love and Low Carb and someof her potato substitutes are to die for!
I managed to avoid the crumble... until about 8pm. Which is good for me really and I had it with greek yogurt not custard/cream. I did drink lots of water. I did have a few (ok 4/5) sneaky little roast potatoes while washign up, I must get the hang of only making enough for DH and the DCs!
Those books look good, added the 1p one to my basket, the art and science one is a bit pricey for me at the moment so I will see if the library can get it...
DH wants to have brunch out today as we will be child free and paint shopping... we shall see how that goes.
Had two glasses of water and a cup of tea so far.

YES...I discovered swede this weekend. Its the first time I've eaten it since school. Really liked it. I'll definitely be using more of that.
B-Toast and marmalade

D- Lamb stew which I may turn into a risotto as its not very filling
E- Aiming to go to the gym straight after college for the first time in about two months. Got to try not to use any excuses!

Sparrer the stuff about my DM and my upbringing would fill several tomes so I won't go into it, but yes, it is hard (((hugs))) I know too well.
Ragz good luck re. PMS, beware of sweets craving, treat yourself extra gently, give yourself non-food treats and nice healthy food, it is only a few days and then you will be on the other side of it.x
Re. Low carb substitutes for potatoes, there is swede, celeriac, cauliflower, turnip. One easy thing to eat with those is fish cakes, cooked smoked fish, mashed up with any of these veg and beaten egg. Roll in ground linseed and nut mix or if you eat small amounts of oatmeal, roll in porridge oats, fry, they are delicious!
Today food:
B: yogurt with nuts
L: mushroom omelette and leftover greens and cauliflower from yesterday dinnervege sausages or burgers with cooked greens, chunk of cheese
S: nuts, thin rye crisp with peanut butter
W: got to make sure I drink more water and less tea
V: will take at lunch
E: still not well enough, other than housework

hi everyone, wont go into details of food over the weekend as it wont look too good
went cross jumping with my horse yesterday and woke up feeling ill with nerves and then after I had done it (all went well) I felt hungry so had ..... a snickers barThen had a jacket tata with chilli for lunch and gammon steak and chips for supper so havent recorded any of that on my fitness pal. Or I might do just to see the damage.

S - pasta bolognese, saving my grapes and banana for pudding
