Hello, and happy new year wishes to all
.
ragz- I will not be joining the new year challenge, but wish everyone well with it.
I will still be on the thread as I still need to loose weight. I built up my knowledge last year as to what a healthy no-nonsense diet is. This was a gradual change for the better.
This year I am going to focus on positivity (ok, I am reading a good book on it!) because I believe it will help me in many aspects of life, including weight loss; a more holistic approach if you like.
Have a good day everyone.
Healthy eating aim per day: 3 fruits, 3 or more vegetables, 3 low-fat dairy portions, 3 starch portions, 2-3 lean protein portions.
Weekly aim: to include 2 portions of fish (one oily), some nuts, seeds, beans and pulses.0 -
Managed to be below my target calories yesterday, even with 3 haribos! Did 15 mins on exercise bike too. Went shopping at night for some sweet things, got choc snack a jacks and blackcurrant jelly. Also got salad stuff and low fat dressing, and salsa and cucumber for snacks.
today is
B - ceral bar
L - carrot and lentil soup, ham roll, activia yoghurt
D - veg lasagne and salad
S - box of raisins, banana, snack a jack.
Will do 15 mins on stepper tonight. I'm not sure how many calories that will be so I have recorded it as walking uphill. I'm aiming to do 15 mins exercise a day to start off with, working up to a workout dvd.
Trying something new with veg lasagne, instead of white sauce have spread extra light cream cheese on the lasagne sheets. Will see if tasty enough!0 -

Hi Hun, you may find the slimming world support thread on the other part of the forum more helpful, we are doing old style weight loss here... as it says on the first post of this thread...Important. Please read:
The thread should be about healthy, Old Style eating. That means recipes and meal plans, support and encouragement and healthy eating. What shouldn't be accomodated here is if the thread goes off topic and covers ready meals, fad diets and weight loss clubs. There is a good thread that covers all that on the 'I wanna' board. So if the thread becomes an extention of that, we will have to close it and ask people to join in there instead.

I'm on 1400 a day calories on there and I feel that is too high. I think it is to do with your weight and how active you are during the day as to how many calories you're allowed. I think.
.
Your basal metabolic rate is the number of calories your body burn each day, just running its systems and keeping you alive. This number changes with weight and age. Adding in your daily activity level, you can work out your daily calorie needs (for sustaining weight). To lose 1lb a week you need a deficit of 3500 calories (so don't beat yourself up if you go a few hundred over a few times a week!) over that week. To lose 2lb a week you need a deficit of 7000cal, or 1000cal a day.
On average (this is a VERY vague average) women need 2000cal a day, so if you go down to 1000cal a day you'll lose 2lb a week (in theory).
For me, at 12 stone and moderately active, I need 2200cal a day to maintain, 1600 to lose 1lb a week and 1100 to lose 2lb a week. If you weigh a LOT then your calorie goal will be higher because your body NEEDS more calories (like a truck needs more fuel than a fiesta) so dropping to 1000 would be dangerous and slow down your metabolism.
Metabolism - Think of it like a fire... too much fuel and it burns slowly, too little fuel and it burns slowly/stops, just the right amount and it burn efficiently...
This site explains the calculations
http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/
Exercise must be taken into account though, so I eat a LOT more on swimming days or if I do more walking I may allow myself an extra treat. I tend to have the high calorie meals on swimming days, like today when I am making homemade pizza as I'll be burning about 500cal at the pool.
You don't HAVE to count calories, no one expects you to do that for the rest of your life (and remember, this is not a 'diet' you are learning to eat well for life), but I did find that using MFP in the beginning has given me a better understanding of the food I eat and now I can usually tell whether I am near, over or way below my target calories for the day. Now I use it some days and not others, depending on how sure of myself I am feeling!
Fuddle - check what your target is set at, mine is set for 1lb loss a week so my calorie goal is 1670cal, if I aim for 2lb a week it goes down to 1170!)June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

Afternoon all! Welcome to all the new posters.
I have just got back from swimming, for the 1st time in 3 weeks. I swam 60 lengths [1500 metres] 50:50 breaststroke/backstroke. It felt fantastic, I think I bounced all the way home instead of walking.
meals for today are -
B- porridge with dried mixed fruit
L - wholemeal pitta, tomatoes, cucumber
D-nut roast, brussel sprouts, carrots, peas, vegetarian gravy
S's - fresh fruit. 1 fox's rocky chocolate biscuit.
Have a good day everyone.0 -
Thanks for that above ragz so comprehensive. I have learned a lot in your post.
So,
B - cup of tea, 1 slice toast with butter
L - baked potato, no butter, tuna
S - 4 digestive biscuits in my tea (just found out that cost me 284 calories - no more!!)
handful blueberries, low fat natural yoghurt and drizzle of honey.
For dinner I am making HM lasagne, completely from scratch. The rest of the family are having chips with it, I am just having having reduced calorie coleslaw and a side of tomatoes, on my side plate.
Getting into this now. I will weigh in tomorrow but I doubt I will have a loss as I had my 1lb on Tuesday. I do feel less bloated around my tummy.
Those old size 10-12's went in the charity collection bag this morning. I just need to clear out all those things that have been sat there just in case for so long. I decided to CS them when I went through my 'accept the size I am' moment but now I want rid because when I get this excess weight off I would like to treat myself and reward myself and new me. I did keep 3 nice things back though, I couldn't bare to get rid of them. One day

Hi everyone, I weighed myself this morning in preparation for starting my diet tomorrow.
I have been eating all the leftover chocolates from Christmas all week and very nice they were too:) (I am going to miss you chocolate but its a case of all or nothing for me). So now there are no goodies left in the house, and I did my weekly shopping yesterday armed with a list for all the food I need for my food plan for the week. I spent about £30 less than I normally do so I hope that continues!
I will do a daily list of food starting tomorrow. So I am all ready to go now. I hope we all manage to lose the weight this year, good luck everyone!Summer weightloss challenge
Aim to lose 10lbs:)0 -
Fuddle I agree about clearing the clothes out. I had a good clear out of all my smaller clothes last year, then I got motivated to start losing weight. It was like making a fresh start. I have also recycled my size 18-20's as they have got too big for me. I have replaced them with leggings and a couple of cheap jumpers for now.
I haven't got a single thing to wear for the summer, so will have to replace my entire summer wardrobe [as cheaply as possible]. Not very MSE of course, but something I am looking forward to.0
