    Well - I WILL make a start when I've finished watching 'Everybody Loves Raymond' ;).

    speak later with a further update, ladies - and keep up the good work :D

    I love that show as well lilyplonk :)

    It's also interesting that you mention cassettes as I have two huge plastic storage boxes full going back to the 80s. I have culled a few though I did then regret giving away my Mc Hammer album :o My plan was to convert all the tapes to mp3 then get rid but it is a slow and laborious project and as a result I have not done any. Some of the albums you can't even buy any more so i refuse to get rid. I did buy a couple CDs to replace the tapes but it can get expensive and also adds to the clutter. It's a pity no-one out there has put every album in existence onto mp3. :(

    my one update for today - red casserole dish being collected by freecycler tomorrow

  • Hello all! Have decided to give Project 333 a go, so have selected my 33 items (:eek:) and just finished bagging up all of my other clothes (apart from anything that won't like bagging, like my leather jacket). It is a very scary and strange experience. Things that I've only just bought are not really making the grade. Was trying to focus on bagging up, but still found 10 clothes items that I've rarely worn to give to charity. Have 4 binliners from my wardrobe, which is a bit of a shock as I removed all of my non-fitting clothes when I was in the final stages of my pregnancy, so must have about 10 bin liners of clothes all in all now!

    Going to give the project a go, and see how I get on. Hoping it will give me the courage to give more things up at the end of the 3 months. Are you guys ok if I record my thoughts on the project here?

    71-80. 10 items of clothing bagged ready for charity shop
    81. selection of odd socks - recycling
    82. Canvas tote with broken handle - recycling

    Beginning to wonder what I will spend my time doing, now clothes are off the agenda! Not a massive shopaholic, but I do like popping into the charity shops to see what they have. I now have a very short list of things I am looking for:
    * baby clothes 6mths +
    * jeans (one of my pairs doesn't fit great since lost more baby weight
    * leather bum bag

    Plus need some new nursing bras.

    Gosh that is a very short list, isn't it!

    museum worker you have just made a thought provoking statement: "I do like popping into the charity shops to see what they have"...

    So you are not going to find a definite item that you NEED, but to see what tempts you to spend precious money on stuff you don't need but merely want. It is an issue which, I am sure, has caused a lot of us to become cluttered.

    I used to be very keen on free cycle, but am now very aware that I was not getting things I NEEDED but things which I fancied on impulse and then decluttered!! :)

    Would love to hear how you get on with 333, I popped onto the website and will definitely be a regular visitor there. Thanks for that.

    Well done everyone :)

    I've just been and posted an ebay parcel today. I'm going to be relisting some more items today and finding some more stuff to list. Gonna have a big tidy up and clean today. Can't wait for Christmas to arrive as the presents are taking up room!!

    I had an email last night to say I had won a 24 hour rental of a carpet cleaner from Full House Magazine! So we are cranking up the decluttering now to get done before Christmas and we are going to hire the cleaner two weekends before Christmas :D Also gonna do my nans carpet too lol.

    I'm a charity shop shopper too! I had a list of things I wanted but have found most of them now so only buy things if they are a real bargain, usually clothes and then as something has come in, something has to go out.
  • good job endlessstruggle, I would love to win something like that. I dread to think how much dirt is in my carpets :eek:

    someone on freecycle is really p*ssing me off. She has written to me about 5 times regarding the casserole dish, I feel like she is hounding me. She has used 2 email addresses, given me her number and in the last one said still no reply from you when can I collect the dish! Most freecyclers seem to get that you can't always send replies to everyone so silence isn't being rude it's that you've been so inundated with replies you can't message everyone and they accept that. jeez.

    I was going to convert my tapes to mp3 but never got around to doing it, so just sent most of them to CS after making a list of the ones I want to replace on CD. I have stacks of vinyls that I want to convert too, and a USB turntable to do it with, but I don't know when I will get around to doing it. The problem is, that some of them have sentimental value, so even after converting I'm not sure if I'll be able to get rid of those ones:eek:!

    I have spent most of today in the spare room going through the [STRIKE]junk[/STRIKE] treasures which DS has left for us to mind for him until he has room to store them. I emptied 3 drawers and relocated everything, most of it went into some storage boxes with some of his other stuff, but managed to get rid of a carrier bag of old unneeded paperwork/receipts, a carrier bag of tatty cardboard for recycling and a bag of carp for the bin! I've also bagged up some paperwork that he needs to go through, and put it back in one of the drawers ready to take with us when we visit him again.

    The drawers that I sorted are in a child's unit, which also has a wardrobe and a cupboard, two of the 3 drawers are now empty, so I just need to find somewhere for the contents of the cupboard and wardrobe, and then I can get rid of the unit.

    Also today I descaled my kettle (finally) and used up one of the sachets of descaler that I've had in the cupboard under the sink for months!

    Couldn't make a start on my dad's curtains after all, as I realised that I only have measurements for the nets, and the width of the window, but don't have the measurement for the length of the main curtains:mad:! I'll have to pop round after work tomorrow to measure up, I have to make sure of the measurements as he has a radiator under the window, so I don't want to make them too long.

    The weather's horrible here, raining and high winds, so if the cat doesn't decide to come in soon, she may be decluttered up the tree by the wind, lol!

    Exactly, it's the sentimental value. they represent my childhood right up until I left school and uni and a lot of them are home made tapes where you had to keep rewinding to make sure you'd cut the recording where the DJ was talking over the end or beginning of the track :) There is something nostalgic about them. I would bin some of those but some I have kept because there are 1 or 2 songs on there I just don't know the name of or who sang it and am not sure how to find out. I have an app on my phone which tells you what songs are so maybe if it works I could ditch some of them. Another thing I like about home made tapes is you know exactly what song is going to come up next so if you're out and about and you hear a song from one of your tapes you immediately think of the song after it. or maybe that's just me :o
