  • museum worker you have just made a thought provoking statement: "I do like popping into the charity shops to see what they have"...

So you are not going to find a definite item that you NEED, but to see what tempts you to spend precious money on stuff you don't need but merely want. It is an issue which, I am sure, has caused a lot of us to become cluttered.

I used to be very keen on free cycle, but am now very aware that I was not getting things I NEEDED but things which I fancied on impulse and then decluttered!! :)

Would love to hear how you get on with 333, I popped onto the website and will definitely be a regular visitor there. Thanks for that.

    Well done everyone :)

Totally right there, I think people who spend their weekends at shopping malls just to see what's there are crazy... yet I do the same thing with charity shops!! Hard message for me to accept, but I need to.

I've picked up a few random things from freecycle too (barbie fashion patterns of the world anyone, and, er, a rabbit), so no longer subscribe to the emails.

Seeing clutter everywhere after further wardrobe purge. A few more things in the outpile:
    83. insulated teapot - charity
84-5. bracelets of DDs - charity
    86-7. 2 fascinators - charity
    88. wooly scarf I never really liked - charity
    89. car mag of OH - charity
    90. top not worn in ages - charity
    91. empty cardboard box - recycling
    92. pile of stuff from basket of doom - recycling

    Nearly up to the hundred!

  • Hooray!!! Today was the coffee morning for which I have been preparing the tombola, so out today was 3 boxes of tombola prizes, 7 packs of paper plates, 1 pack of plastic cutlery and a pack of serviettes. Coffee morning raised £700 so we are well pleased with that, plus I have the added bonus of not having everything stored in my spare room any more.

Also managed to find a couple of bits over the last few days: granddaughter was here Monday and Tuesday, so not much got done, although I did manage to clear out the fridge and steam clean it.

    132. 7 packs paper plates
    133. 1 pack plastic cutlery
    134. 1 pack serviettes
135-137 3 boxes of tombola prizes (205 in all)
    138. Musical toy that grandchildren don't play with any more
139-141. Bottles of out of date salad dressings
142-143. 2 bottles of out of date eye drops
    144. Mouldy cucumber put on compost
    145. Mouldy tomatoes put on compost
    146. Wilted lettuce put on compost
    147. More fabric used up making 4 morsbags

Going to have a relaxing day in tomorrow, hopefully sewing some more bags for an event on Saturday, and tidying up a little. Going to tackle a big pile of papers that I've been [STRIKE]nagging[/STRIKE] encouraging hubby to look through and sort for over a week now. If you want a job doing..... etc. etc.
Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

  • I have got to tackle the cupboard under the stairs today as I have a chap coming from EDF on Saturday to replace my electric meter so stuff has got to go.Trouble is my 'glory hole' has a lot of 'overflow' from my DDs house as she lives in a 4 bedroomed town house thats stuffed to the rafters with two dogs four children and and an OH who keeps things just in case ,now his things seem to be creeping into my house for safe keeping as well !!!
I have a lot of stuff that we take away on holiday with the boys in the summer 2 tent, fishing rods, cricket sets etc plus several picnic insulated bags and boxes I am just running out of space hereI shall tackle this after the school run and let you know how I get on Its got to go or the EDF man won't get into the cupboard :)

Oh dear, yesterday's promised 'bedroom blitz' just didn't happen, after all :o. All I managed to do in there was to strip and re-make the bed and start to pack a suitcase for next-week's short break with mother - Blackpool, here we come!

What caused the halt in proceedings was getting a letter in the post with the formal offer of my 'new' flat :j. I had to make a couple of phone calls relating to that, then rang mum to let her know that a move is definitely happening - then it was lunchtime :(. STILL don't know when 'the big move' will be - could still be after Christmas, but looking more likely to be BEFORE!

Well done everybody - you're all putting me to shame with your efforts - especially all you ebayers :(.

Good luck with your attempts at Project333, museumworker - and anybody else who's giving it a go :T. I don't think it's 'quite for me' at the moment. I can't 'see the wood for the trees', so need to dump NOT store away for 3months!

Some good advice concerning charity shops/freecycle, suzeesu - it's something that I need to seriously take to heart. Only thing is, that I volunteer in one  - and it's my shift today!

Congrats on winning the Carpet Shampoo Weekend, Endless :j - great incentive to get the place cleared before then.

Sorry to hear about your 'freecycle stalker', fitness - you'd have thought she'd have got the message by now. I think I must have just been very lucky with the people that I've dealt with on there. No weirdos at all, well at least not so far ............!

Oh the joys of kids who leave home, but still like to keep stuff in our houses, Sue14! I'm convinced it's their 'safety net' and helps them to feel safe and secure that 'home is still there' if it's ever needed as a safety net/bolt hole when the big, bad world gets too much for them! I've still got Take That stuff (from when they were a BOY Band) and 911 memorabilia belonging to DD. I'm sure I could just dump it and tell her that it 'got lost' in the move - but she'd never forgive me!

Great work, dannie - you're right, sometimes the 'clutter in our lives' can be harder to deal with than the 'clutter in our homes' :).

Another successful ebay transaction, dorajar :T.

wtg museumworker - very close to that magical phrase '100 not out!' - bet the England Cricket Squad are jealous as hell ;).

You must be so pleased that all that stuff is now out of the way, loopychriss :j. Well done to you, your family and friends on raising all that money :T.

Very generous donation there, luxor - some child will be very grateful for that one :).

Best of luck, JackieO - hope your EDF guy gets that job done for you.

So here we go with yesterday's (partial) success -

    67. More shredded paperwork – where the heck does it all come from?????
    68. More junk mail – recycling bin!
    69. Old magazines from 2006 aaaaarrrgh! – recycling.
    70. Dirty laundry (bed sheets) recycled into clean laundry!
    71. Old broken coat hangers – into rubbish. I'm gradually replacing with cheap Asda/Wilkies-versions of 'huggable hangers'!

I've noticed that OH has been 'moving stuff around' in the spare bedroom - but not quite sure if he's only been tidying things up OR chucking out. He's a real procrastinator - will decide to dump 20 items, then work out that he still NEEDS 10 of them and puts them back again. Then he'll recheck what's being dumped and eventually maybe 3 will go into a carrier bag. THAT'S the point where I've got to grab and run with the bag before they go back into the drawers :rotfl:!

Oh well, off for a shower in a minute and then get ready to go to cs. I promise to keep chanting my mantra all morning - 'I'm here to give and not to buy .......... I'm here to give and not to buy ..........!'

Also need to head into the supermarket - milk, fresh bread and margarine ONLY! Though I think OH was muttering about 'no *£/$%&* bliscuits' yesterday - may treat him to some SmartPrice digestives while I'm out :rotfl:. I just don't want him raiding my Christmas Stash while I'm away next week .

I could bake him some 'Twink's' and that would 'recycle' some of the store cupboard ingredients :j!

I'll be back in again later, 'Keep Calm and Carry On Decluttering' ladies.

    Lilyplonk xxxxx

    Updated to add:

    72. Just got on the scales after my shower - 4lbs of flab - OUT :j:dance:!
  • Wow Lilyplonk, 4lbs lost -- that is quite some shower :rotfl:!

    93. cushion not really using - charity
    94. one (odd) heel grip for shoe - bin

DD sick, so another unexpected day at home. Am hoping to have another little blitz at some point.

Dust and wash ground wood floor hall area including furniture ornaments pictures etc. DONE
Living room tidy up, dump unwanted clutter, clean windows, dust and wash wood floor, wipe leather furniture, ornaments etc. NOT DONE
Hope to also clear all ebay bits and bobs lying around dining room. What a mess. ADDED TO THIS MESS YESTERDAY

    Morningl
Well yesterdays list didn't get completed but I did spend hours in the garden and slept like a log last night I can tell you. So my list continues where I left off yesterday.
Blue bin weighs a tonne with all that I have recycled this week.
    Onwards and upwards.
  • Glad you could get out in the garden, ours was off limits due to the torrential rain, and strong and freezing winds ! I think I will pop out in mine now and pick some medlars to blet before they fall on the floor. Was waiting for first frost, but so many leaves are falling off the tree I think it is time.

95-107. 13 bottles of ood medicines/vitamins bagged up - to chemist.

Got rid of ood vitamins as well. Always think 'I paid a lot for that' but its not going to help me if I don't take it - and if its out of date its time to go! Hoping that will stop me buying vitamins I don't take!

Reached the 100 mark :j - let's see how much more can squeeze in today.

Not much done today, actually nothing done. Weather has been terrible and im always unproductive when the weather is bad. Little miss Evelyn is 2 weeks old today and has been feeding loads, so mainly been sat on my !!!! on my phone with her. Went to soft play today to tire the kids out but the older 2 napped in the car between 4-5 so its going to be a late night now and i really cant be bothered. I have zero energy and feeling really low :( I hate winter.

Roll on tomorrow, my nan says its supposed to be dry x
