One of the things that I set myself up to fail with, is pressurising myself to do too much. Too soon.

So, although I've at least put some things on ebay and put the bins out, recycling and landfill, I haven't actually moved forward and it somehow still looks as bad as it did. Looked at the bedroom and thought  just overwhelmed.
OK, going back to the weight analogy, how long did it take your place to become like it is. Overnight? No, so you won't clear it overnight and expecting to is just setting yourself up for failure. I suggest you make your own list of things decluttered as you go so you can see what you have achieved when you feel overwhelmed and dejected. Also is there an area which you can clear relatively easy in terms of time and emotions, which should give you a boost. Eg this time of year I recycle all the various Christmas gift catalogues I have collected. Obviously no longer of any use and leaves an obvious gap.

24 – 26 3 boxes of floppy discs (in bin)
    27 - 29 3 bags of son’s clothes (charity shop)
30 pile of son’s clothes (garage for rags)
31 1 box of dried up cartridge ink refill (bin)
32 pile of junk mail (shredded for recycle)

My house, too, doesn't look much different as I haven't concentrated on one area - just been doing bits where I know there is a load of stuff to get rid of. I am hoping that at the end of the month when I see on paper (on screen :D ) how much I have got rid of then I will be brave enough to tackle the stuff I am emotionally attached to, such as my son's pram, cot, etc that is in the loft. Son is now 17 and there is no chance I will have another.

Totally agree with it being an emotional/mental thing. If nobody minds I'm going to continue writing little stories for the things that I chuck that I am having some kind of internal struggle with i.e china sheep and wine racks!!! It helps me ..... I don't know....lay them to rest with a little dignity! Crazy but true.

We're all different in our approaches to decluttering aren't we and what works for someone won't work for everybody. I think maybe I'm a bit of a minamalist (sp?) but I've had to hugely let go of that since I've been with DH. Personally I find it very therapeutic but I've been feeling really hemmed in by all the clutter. DH on the other hand gets a bit panicky - he couldn't even watch me sort through his magazines a while back.

Whilst in the kitchen found a few more bits:

    89. Very (I won't say how old) packet of cake mix
    90. Old jar of pasta sauce
    91. Cellulose sponge no use to anyone as more holes than sponge! :o

Finally dismantled the tree and put the decorations away - the sitting room feels a lot less cluttered now! Five more things for the charity shop - quarter of the way there. Back to work tomorrow but I'm still hoping to do a little each day. I'm certainly trying not to bring any more clutter in.

Slow day here, not feeling very well, so just a few things ditched:

    12. Keyboard to car boot / charity shop box
    13. Juggling balls set to car boot / charity shop box
    14. Bleached t-shirt to rag bag
    15. Assortment of boxes to recycling
    16. Two tops to car boot / charity shop box
    17. Picture in frame to car boot / charity shop box

To be fair, most of that was OH so can't even claim credit for what has been achieved!

Need your advice here - I have a number of contact lenses which are my old prescription, still in date. Am I allowed to list them on freegle and do you think anyone would be interested? Bit of a pain as I had slightly different prescriptions in each eye so the chance of someone wanting them are remote but I would rather try than just automatically landfill them.

Also got a broken monitor OH wants me to freecycle - I can imagine the responses I will get when people don't notice that it's broken!

Right, off for a long hot soak in the bath to see if that makes me feel better.
