I seriously need to declutter my entire house - could be moving within the next month from a 3-bed house to a 2-bed flat! I have to confess to being a bit of a h-o-a-r-d-e-r

I like the way that some of you are listing what you've been slinging and would like to join in, if you don't mind ................

So far this morning, I've been finding various bits and pieces for the recycling bin (due to be collected tomorrow) and have filled up the 'food waste caddy' with last night's peelings.

Right now, I need to get off to the gym, but instead of going for a walk afterwards, I'll get back into the kitchen/dining room and continue decluttering. I'll keep a list and post on here later ................ maybe that will give me some much needed motivation :j.

Hi Lilyplonk I only found this thread and all these lovely posters about 2 weeks ago - and I cannot believe how much I have achieved by the encouragement and support received

Good luck this afternoon, the most popular target is 100 items per month but some have set their own targets

Keeping the list is fab because you really see how much you have achieved, I found that I forgot lots of things that I'd cleared and didn't list - so you actually get rid of more stuff than you realise!

Look forward to seeing your list grow x

  • Good morning, and welcome lilyplonk. As donnajt says, just jump straight in! You set your own target, and no-one here will give you anything but encouragement.

When I was going through storage boxes recently, I found a huge bag of sewing things. This morning I've been sorting it out. I've kept back some of the material but almost everything else has gone to cs with just a tiny bag of oddments to the bin. I think I've maybe got two more large bags of materials, so I'll sort through those then see what size of permanent storage I need. I have a couple of old sewing machines that I can hardly lift, so at the end of all this, I'll get rid of them and invest in something much more suitable for me now. Then I can really enjoy sewing again.

I've looked again at all my stationery and have decided that though I can't put it all away as I'd like, I am going through it faster than I thought so I won't buy any more storage. I'm sure more can go to cs, and I'll have a look at that again soon.

    1 ring - cs
1 leather watch strap - cs
    20 zips - cs
10 packs bias binding - cs
7 misc sewing things - cs
    5 untouched remnants - cs
    7 cardboard folders - recycling
    1 book - recycling
    1 plastic bottle - recycling
1 bag sewing oddments - bin

This thread is really bubbling away at the moment! As well as making a few quid for ourselves here and there, good to see charity shops benefiting too. They must be really feeling the pinch right now.

Well I dug out the small roasting tin from the CS bag as I needed it last night! But I used up a sample of facial oil that had been knocking around for a bit so my declutter total is levelled off.;)

The windowsill looks much better after yesterday. For toiletries I'm targeting to use up they all sit in a basket together. So I'm concentrating on them before using other stuff. :o

    134. Broken frying pan. The handle is beyond repair.

Need to concentrate on the living room again. Will get a towel or sheet and empty bits onto it and sort through. Sitting down listening to Peter Kay on youtube :)
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage
:cool2: Cherryprint: "More stuff = more stuff to tidy up!"
Less things. Less stuff. More life.
 Fab thread: Long daily walks

You're an early bird, waking up that time on a Sunday!!

I look forward to hearing your progress! :j
Chuck it out... No, wait, we can fix it. No, it's useful. Aww, it's too good to throw away. Keep it as a memory. Put it to one side, I'll ebay it. No, it'll come in handy one day. No, don't throw it, if you ____, then you can use it as a _____. Don't put it in the bin, the tip has a special section for those.

    :)
I do giggle at some of the things you's give to the CS!

I haven't been there for ages to give stuff, I feel that they've already got loads on their hands- their bins are always overflowing with stuff!

On the other hand, OH came back from the CS with more clutter! 3 apparently 'limited edition' plates worth £25+ on ebay which she will flog later, and a pair of shoes, which upon trying on, didn't fit, and need relisting! It's been twice now they needed relisting :o!!!

Oh, and that reminds me, I'm glad there wont be any car boot sales for a while now, whenever she hears of one off she goes and comes back with clutter destined to collect dust!

I think i need to take up that "one item in, one out" rule

We have a tall wide bin inside the shop, facing the till line, similar in size & shape to the one for broken carrier bags. It's an 'Extra' store. HTH.

    Into CS box:
    179. folding umbrella
    180. soft toy
    181. xmas ornament

    182. packaging removed and recycled.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

    Thanks for the welcome :).

If you can't manage to sell them, have you thought of asking a Sewing Machine Engineer if he has need of them for 'spares'? The guy who looks after mine is always on the lookout for old machines to help complete repairs for customers.

Good idea - I hadn't thought about that. Anything that will cut down the need for more things in this world!
