  • I started clearing out a few bits over the last few bits but to be honest the bits I have done have not even scratched the surface!
It will be lovely to have the house organised and clean in time for Christmas so will be joining you all.

So tomorrow I am going to completely empty and sort my ds's room, any book, toy or item of clothing that has not been read, played with or wore within the last 4months its going.
  • I like the idea of decluttering by christmas. I often intend to declutter the spare room when I have the house to myself however it makes my head explode when I think about where to start and I never get around to it. I get so much carp at christmas it would be nice to put it away in an organised home. Little declutters means it will be done by christmas.

I'm in, but I am an awful procrastinator with an awful memory to boot so I need encouragement and reminding :rotfl:

My son will be 16 months at Christmas and he is getting a LOT of toys from us and family members so I need to sort through outgrown toys to make room for the new ones! Thankfully my mother decided NOT to get him a motorised quad bike

I have sold around £50 worth of outgrown baby clothes but I have boxes and boxes waiting to be sorted through. They range from tiny baby to 9-12 months and then I have 12 months up to 2 years that he's not grown into yet!

One of my main clutter problems is paperwork. It gets everywhere. Thomas helps me by ripping it up but it's not quite so helpful when he's got hold of council tax receipts

My first challenge - clear the dining table!! It has paperwork, clothes and god knows what else on there. I did manage to clear it at the beginning of August for Thomas's birthday party and I did say it wouldn't go back to how it was but.... :o

  • Hi Sweatpea,

I understand how you are feeling as I am in the middle of decluttering at the moment.....13 bags to a cash for clothes place last week earned me £32 and the hall is lined with books, decent handbags, unworn clothes, shoes and knick nacs etc that may be useful to someone, for the charity shop.

We do have numerous current decluttering threads where you'll get lots of support and advice so I'll add this thread to the most main 2012 thread later:

Good luck with clearing out, you'll feel so much better once it's done! :)

I can't post on this diary now folks as there is the similar one above. See you all over there. Bye
  • Morning all

Hitting my utility room today to sort it out. Have been ill for a few weeks and that has only made the problem worse. Will hopefully have clothes bagged to go their different ways and lots of ironing done too.
  • Just 7 more dvds to add this morning:

    204/150

I think that's all I'll manage for today.

    Hi All

Inspired by the thread about decluttering before Christmas I made a start yesterday.

    I sorted my bedroom drawers

    Broken cosmetic jewellery
    Out of date contact lenses
    Old make up
    Above all thrown away

Broken gold - to be taken to one of the gold buyers
Out of date prescription meds - to be taken to chemist for disposal

And the cabinets in the en-suite

Again out of date meds, lotions and potions - to be taken to chemist
Ladies items no longer needed thrown away

One full bin bag out for collection today

Going to choose an area a day

  • Your friend won't know that you've sold it,will she?

You could wait a bit longer, and if you still haven't used it (unless you want to keep it as a replacement) then what's the likliehood that you will?

I do see her quite often and she sees I still use my Hello Kitty one so I guess she already knows I am not using it! She got one for herself at the same time and I think is sorry she did as bits of it are flaking off and the quality is not the greatest for the price paid. I may hold onto it for a bit longer then bung it on ebay nearer to Christmas as people may want it for a present!
  • Good morning Friends

I'm back after a week of visitors and found that the computer class I was giving has been postponed, so I can have a day of decluttering. Already I have the 2nd machine load on, and two bedrooms are empty again, except for about 3 pieces of furniture in each, including the bed. :j

I decided to do something about the duvets and since they won't fit into the washing machine I found a cleaner who will do free collection and delivery and this month has a 25% off for duvets. So I've just contacted them and the collection is this afternoon! 2 king size duvets and 6 singles! A definite result. But what to do when they come back? I really don't think I will ever need all those. The church I go to is extremely cold and nothing can be done about installing any heating until next year. There are fleeces rolled up on all the pews and we are encouraged to bring hot water bottles (are you getting the picture?). So this morning I wondered about cutting a few single duvets into three, covering them with some hard wearing material (I'm sure I have some) and putting some of us in less misery. I also have a trunk full of cushions so many of those can go the same way. Before I start to get all industrious I think I need to speak to someone to make sure these offerings are acceptable. (If not, I can just take in the duvets and at least a row of people wil be warmer.)

Now what can I tackle next?
