I've got a bag full of coat hangers to charity, along with the 2 carrier bags I've already got waiting.
The last time i took some coat hangers to the cs (the one up the road) they didn't want them!suzeesu2000 wrote: »I did that with our DVD collection marmite, which had just got ridiculous. Sold them cheap to get rid.
Yeah, I hope I can find a solution too, it's so frustrating. Think I might need a bigger house.
Well I have about 870 dvds in all and ideally would like to free up one bookcase, which means getting rid of about of about another 125 dvds at least.
I also live in a very small place.I certainly don't intend to move though. It's amazing how much stuff I've mindlessly managed to accumulate.:eek:0 -
Today I'm going through all our bedlinen. Apart from what's already on beds, we must have a dozen kingsize sets, half a dozen single sets (only need a couple now), and misc stuff including padded mattress toppers, extra fitted plain sheets, and some double stuff DH brought with him 14 years ago which doesn't fit anything at all! It's all piled on the livingroom floor - I'm going to sort into sets, cull, rewash and put away the stuff I know we'll actually use. If there are any decent sets left over that won't be needed (and I think there'll be lots), they'll go to the charity shop as is. Personally I think we only need say 4 main sets of kingsize stuff, so I'm just going to keep my favourites - 2 winter, 2 summer. Some of the stuff I don't even recognize, it's been in storage for so long."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

It was like a walk down memory lane when I did ours
I'm sad to say that I [STRIKE]get[/STRIKE] got excited about buying bedding so we still have too much.
Coathangers: some charity shops take them, most don't. If you're near a big Tesco, they have a hanger recycling bin.
CDs/ DVDs/Books : Zapper or Music Magpie are the quickest but prices are low. I used to use Green Metropolis for books but gave up when the postage prices shot up.
Decluttering:
81. tatty book to recycling
82. not-airtight storage jar to recycling
83. contents of not-airtight jar into food waste box (furry split peas _pale_
84. broken bits of fruit bread from split pack in freezer also into food waste box.
85. DH's pet collection of junk mail, brochures etc into recycling.
86 - 87. the cereal containers, don't use them now the kids are grown up, so off to the recycling.
88. broken handbrush to bin.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -

No, didn't get rid of all DVDs just a whole bookcase full:rotfl:
But do you remeber the old days when it would have been video's taking up soooooo much room? How did we deal with that?? Then there were the Video discs, of course I could show my age and mention the 8-track cassettes which were dead trendy in the car!! :rotfl:
Nice free cycle lady came as arranged and collected the big bag of remnants, :T had a lovely chat with mum today on ideas for some pretty summer dresses.
Hope everyone is having a good Sunday.:)Saving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal

47 bedding items gone. I've no idea how we ended up with a single emerald green double sheet and a single mustard yellow pillowcase. Anyway, 2 binbags in the bin, and 4 to go to the CS. Managed to include a couple of hippy sofa throws from my single days 20 years ago without DH noticing - he'd've stolen them back otherwise!"Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

Good afternoon everyone. What a lovely fresh one it is too.
I have decided to start this diary after spending the last week searching for an item that I have sold on ebay. I am absolutely sick of having a cluttered house that basically is getting me down. So folks I hope I don't bore you all to death by my lists of 'to do's' and hopefully some of you may feel the same way about your homes and feel like joining me in my quest.
Its been a strange week and I feel a bit lost with all heading back to school, university etc. Starting to feel the pain of chicks flying from the nest and need to have something to focus my mind on over the next few months.
So tomorrow morning I start with 1 room and will take it from there. The dreaded utility...mountains of ironing and clothing need sorted.
So I will see you all tomorrow:j0 -
Good luck, I'm sure you'll do just fine.
I'm totally with you on the decluttering, can't face the influx of stuff on top of what we have here already. Nothing is ever where I left it.0 -
Good luck sweetpea - I think I might start the master bedroom tomorrow before it becomes a sea of beige boxes which will be doing a poor job of hiding Christmas presents x"A cat can have kittens in the oven, but that don't make them biscuits." - Mary Cooper

Best of luck. I have a week off work next month and am planning a toy clear out before Xmas. I might ask the local children's centre if they are collecting any.
We're not too cluttered but if last Christmas is anything to go by, it will be good to get a head start!Bossymoo

Thanks so much for your replies
:) Its a great time of the year for sorting and cleaning. I sincerely believe that clutter wears you down and I am so looking forward to starting and making a bit of progress each day.
