Now that I'm in full decluttering mode I am thinking twice whenever I think I 'need' or are about to buy something. Have others noticed themselves doing this too?

I am definitely more aware of what I buy and only buy if it's something I really need.

Does anyone else find it harder to sell/give away things we got as gifts especially if you remember who gave it you/the kids etc? Or if you've not had the item that long? really trying to be ruthless but its hard!

I'm exactly the same, especially if it's from my DS. I have a plastic ornament, that my mum paid for, that he gave me for mother's day when he was little, although it is broken (possibly fixable) and is now just stored in a box in a cupboard, can I get rid of it? No way! The same with a car radio cassette that he bought me for my 40th, I dropped the fascia one day and it no longer worked so cannot be used, not to mention that I now have a cd player in my car, but I've still kept it in the shed! I did sell on ebay a couple of nokia phone fascias that he'd bought me, because I no longer have the phone, but I felt really guilty when I saw they'd sold and I had to post them off! I don't think he has any such qualms about getting rid of things I've bought him though.

On my day off on Wednesday, I spent most of the day in the [STRIKE]storeroom[/STRIKE] spare bedroom, and managed to get the ebay stuff reduced to less boxes and also found for CS:-

Mobile phone charger (no longer have the phone)
    Child's potty
    Tubby turtle toy
    2 cot sheets
    1 cot blanket
    1 pram blanket
    1 belt
    a fleece top
    8 CD's
    2 large books
music box ornament (won in a tombola about 25 years ago but never really liked it)
    dymo label maker
    11 video cassettes
    5 audio cassette tapes

Also binned 4 empty cassette cases, and today we took the CS stuff to the shop, (2 boxes and 2 bags) a lot of it already counted, but I will count the two boxes.

  • I use my dymo label maker to label all my kitchen and craft stuff. Makes it look really organised lol.

67 - 71. bags of dead wall paper / empty paint pots/ dead brushes etc to tip
72 -75. rubble sacks emptied into rubble skip
76- 79. cardboard boxes unearthed in garage to cardboard recycling skip
    80. broken handcream dispenser into bin.

So much in the garage needs to go, I'm seriously tempted just to drag the boxes into the car and dump them at the tip because I do not know what is in them all.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
  • Well today I've decluttered:

    -8 books

and sorted out the bookshelves a bit.

    168/150.
  • Been good and made another nightdress, used up four half reels of thread in same and put left over scraps in remnant bag which is being collected tomorrow, feel all smug and righteous again now :rotfl:

Wish I had room for a small table so I could keep my machine up all the time, half of the reason why I don't sew so much now is having to get the flipping thing out and stand up to sew, really is a bind. I have so much I want to make too.

Have just decluttered some ham & tomatoes in a sandwich to my tummy :rotfl:

Well done everyone, have a nice evening :)

  • I forgot to say that I sold all my decluttered dvds yesterday, bar two.I didn't get a great price, but just wanted rid of them The two remaining ones I'll give to the cs.

suzeesu2000 hope you find a solution for the sewing machine.
  • Just creeping in (my visitors are still here) to say my freecyclers are really letting me down - saying they want something then not turning up - often, or expecting me to open the door to a stranger (with a name out of a gory history book!) after 9pm. I'll give it another day then put things aside for cs, I think. And I was doing so well :(

I got rid of the old fridge stuff today and replenished it with fresh food :)

I also got a new desk (fb selling page) so need to get rid of my old or (an old tile top dining table), this is for my sewing mostly :o got rid of 3 empty bottles of bath stuff etc but not much else.

I've got a bag full of coat hangers to charity, along with the 2 carrier bags I've already got waiting.

Still got to list my many things on eBay, but that's tomorrow's job! :D

I did that with our DVD collection marmite, which had just got ridiculous. Sold them cheap to get rid.

Yeah, I hope I can find a solution too, it's so frustrating. Think I might need a bigger house.
