Decluttering 2012, this year, definitely ...

I had read that but had my doubts, until it really worked.
Having fun with my decluttered items today:
1 headlamp left in the garden for an early morning freecycler - taken
1 cs bag including 3 blankets left on the door step - taken
1 set of kitchen scales taken last night - freecycler
1 mosquito net taken this morning - freecycler
Just off to measure the African drum to see if that will go.0 -
Now it gets complicated. The wrong person took the charity shop bag and has just brought it back, so I hope it's not too late for the real collectors. I'll just have to bring it back inside tonight and wait for another opportunity.
Meanwhile, the freecycler took what she really wanted:
15 flat sheets
2 pillow cases0 -
I know its not the season but ive just sorted through a huge box of christmas tree decorations and have decided only to keep the best/my favourite ones/ones that dont swamp the tree.
Ive also donated some christmas ornaments that i was never that keen on to be honest but daughter insisted they were displayed.... she's left home now so she can have them.:DThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Hello Everyone!
I've been reading this thread for ages while trying to declutter two houses; ours and my father-in-law's. I am running out of steam (and time too, in the case of FIL's house as he has to move in four weeks but his story requires it's own post!) so I hope you'll keep me motivated to the end.
Our house is simply the case that we've lived there for 21 years, brought up our boys and now that they're older, and eldest is off to uni, find myself unable to let go of a lot of their childhood stuff - crazy, I know! We've redecorated their rooms and neither of them want any of this stuff so it's all lying downstairs waiting to be 'dealt with!'
Do other mothers have this compulsion to keep their kid's stuff too? Or do I just need a talking to?Decluttering, home-making and 'proper' cooking are my priorities this year and trying to finish all those unfinished hobby projects before spending any more money!0 -
Hi Craft-a-holic and welcome.
I know just what you mean about keeping stuff. Ive bought up my 5 children in this house. Ive only got one son left at home but it left what seemed a lifetime of memories when they moved out.
However, as much as i love my kids (i call them kids my eldest is 31). They took what was important to them when they moved out of home.
Ive now got the opportunity to get the house finally how i want it and i am continually finding things that i no longer will use.
I have a drawer in my bedroom (thats all i have allowed myself) for the treasured mementos that i will never part with but i am enjoying my house clutter and junk free and its so much easier to clean.
Remember, whats in your heart, nothing and no one will ever be able to take away from you and if your anything like me, you dont need reminders to remind you of the precious things/times.
If in the future i lose my marbles, i still have a drawer full of precious 'mementos' and a husband and 5 lovely children to remind me of who i am.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
