Is that 'The Hoarder Next Door' you're talking about? If so it starts tonight on Channel 4 at 9pm. That's my next hour sorted!

One more to declare for today:
    9. 3 old magazines found in the bedroom and recycled

Our car boot lot has a bid on it so it will definitely all go :j

Nope. I saw trailer for Britain's Biggest Hoarders BBC1 Tuesday 9pm

I've had a quick run through the house this morning. Not much flung really, I have probably 2 full recycling bins out the front, clothes from DS and DD which are not fit for anything any more.
Lots of stuff piled up on the table too ready to be relocated to their bedrooms this afternoon.
Will be using a half bar of soap later as I'm out of laundry gloop so need to make some more. So I guess that's kind or pre cycling?
I must get some fuel today too, the car's on empty now. Also need to Hoover now that I've finally cleaned out the filters so it should suck :o

Well so far so good this month & we are only on the 4th

1 - 3 large items gone through freecycle
4 - 8 DH clothes to charity shop - he actually let me get rid of them!
9 -11 old bedding to textile recycling

Should do well this month if it keeps raining, but if the sun comes out I must declutter the weeds in the garden

Hoarder Next Door C4 - well I did watch this but didn't think much to it. It didn't really get to the bottom of where all the stuff had come from and why he was a hoarder, other than depression over the loss of his partner.

Similarly, we saw little of how to deal with hoarding tendencies. The clean up ladies were very jolly but there was a wholesale chucking out of stuff without the guy making all of the decisions. In these cases, people often go back to hoarding.

He seemed more of a depressed collector who had given up on cleaning and then become outfaced by the enormity of the situation.

Bio channel have 4 episodes of the US 'Hoarders' on Sunday night at 5-9pm. This is a much better show which really gets to the bottom of why people hoard. It's not for the faint-hearted though as most of them are a lot worse than the guy from Birkenhead. By the first ad break, I guarantee you will have got a bin bag out.

I'm surprised it isn't a Free Listing Weekend this weekend it being a bank holiday. I've still got a box full of stuff to list, I keep getting it near empty then it fills back up again! :rotfl:

I am hoping for one too on the grounds that its BHW and I am sure the increased postage will have hits sales and put people off listing possibly???? - maybe they are just teasing and will send out a late email :)

I've not read all the previous pages but I will.

I promised myself to declutter over this bank holiday weekend. I'm not good at getting rid of things - I usually manage to find a new home for them somewhere behind closed doors! And in the garage or loft! It's got to stop.

Trouble is, what do you do when the doors don't shut? :rotfl:

I must turn over a new leaf and part with things, most things hold treasured memories eg trophies, kids cheap mothers day presses. How can I get rid of those???

Don't part with any things that brings a smile to your face - keep them openly on show, or discreetly placed where only you and yours will see them.

Pack up any nostaligic items, like little things from the children, in pretty tissue paper and store carefully in your 'treasure box' in the loft, for them to discover sometime in the future. You might add a little note, to remind them, who gave it, when, and how happy it made you feel.

Thanks IQ. Do you just physically remove the hard drive or do you have to do anything else? TIA :)

Ideally you remove the hard drive and then try to destroy it. The case and peripherals can be recyled.

A couple of years ago, Radio 4 reported on this. The computer experts bought up some old machines and got the most sensitive info off them. They could also get that info after burning and drilling holes in the hard drive!
:eek:Just consider what the police can get off computers in criminal cases!

Just stopped for a breather with the declutter - have put aside a huge pile for Eb*Y and will go through this again later. Another not so big yet pile for Oxf*m and a general bin bag full of rubbish. Stopping for some biscuits and a glass of milk.........my favourite snack!
