Done it! But nowhere near being clutter free!

I would definitely say that this exercise has been therapy for me and I am now keen to go up in the loft and get rid of son's cot, pram, etc. Where would the best place to get rid of these bearing in mind that they are 17 years old? I am guessing that the cot is in very good condition (obviously minus the mattress).

An added incentive now is that we viewed a bungalow yesterday and fell in love with it. Hubby was only going to put the house up for sale if the offer we are going to put in was accepted but I have now persuaded him that we will put the house on the market anyway. So today I have spent washing down the walls and taking the border off the hall so that we can paint it. Now I am panicking though as I know that we will never get the house looking like a show house - we still have too much stuff.

right got through a few pages, and...

    11. rid of a pile of paper work,
    12. pile of old receipts
    13. empty biscuit tins x3
    14. rehoused sticky back plastic
    15. rehoused battery for clock (been meaning to do that for ages).
    16. disposed of old pens that no longer work
    17. emptied pin board of stuff that's out of date.
    18. cleared the bathroom of a carrier of junk (and found two paint brushes???? the art kind rather than the wall kind)
    19. emptied and sorted the two 'junk' drawers in the dresser
    20. probably shouldn't count but I have removed all traces of one tub of Ben and Jerry's also.. nom nom

    Ditch 100 in Jan 100/100

Hi all, been missing in action after a stressful and hectic week - relationship issues, being away for work etc. Have not kept a close count the last few days but have had a major blitz and am definitely over the 100 mark.

Did the car boot with my mum today - bit disappointing as only made about £20 but then I thought it's all stuff I would have just taken to the charity shop so wouldn't have made anything on otherwise. The rest is going to the charity shop tomorrow - yay! Loads of clothes, books and bric a brac, including some lovely heavy dusty pink velvet curtains I thought would sell but didn't, who knows why some things sell and others don't.

Had 4 things on eBay, Simpsons DVDs didn't sell but my nephew will have them; french CD set didn't sell so will charity shop, roofbars from my old car sold for double the starting price so very happy and hair straighteners sold as well so overall am pleased. Will try and ship them all tomorrow so they are out of the house as well.

This has been such a good challenge to keep me focussed and motivated so thank you Pen Pen for organising and everyone who has offered encouragement along the way and sorry I didn't count all the items in the last few days - was literally just piling stuff into boxes to get rid! So pleased to have some space in the spare room again!

    Hi everyone,

I have been a participant in Pigpen's declutter thread a while ago, but have fallen off the wagon. I am due to adopt two toddlers in February who will no doubt come with plenty of stuff so I have been clearing out at home.

We did do a blitz on the attic before Christmas, clearing out stacks and stacks of cardboard boxes my obsessive husband insisted on keeping in case we ever want to move house(!) I also got rid of a load of old Christmas decs to the charity shop.

The clearout restarted in earnest this weekend:
-Big clearout of the linen cupboards which resulted in:
-2 large carrier bags of sheets and 1 of towels to friends for their dogs
-3 large carrier bags of charity shop contributions
    - carrier of chipped mugs which I need to put in the rubbish

    In addition:
-3 large carrier bags of rubbish from bedroom and bathroom
-1 old compost bag full of rubbish from the shed
-1 more carrier ready for the charity shop of shoes and clothes
-2 electric saws - neither working in the bin
-2 pair of boots for reheeling to go to the shop tomorrow

I have been washing old pillows to give to friends who are renting out their spare rooms to students for some extra cash.

Tomorrow, I will be looking at my clothes again, and the sewing room which desperately needs to be straightened up at the very least!

Tuesday will be the conservatory's turn

Wednesday, the dining room and lounge

Thursday, the kitchen and utility room

Friday, advertise stuff on freecycle (already got a bedside table, small fryer and some fabric to go), bin collection day and visit to the tip.

    Well, that's the plan!

Good luck everyone with the coming week.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

    Well done everyone

DH will be visiting the tip/recycling this week, we have 2 old tv's, speakers and hairdryer to go as well as lots of cardboard and an old battered laundry bin. This is in addition to the 3 extra bags of general rubbish. Decluttering might slow down a bit now until February half term.

I've been sorting out and clearing up almost all day. I haven't counted how many things have gone - but it's loads and loads. I knew I had a mountain to climb and I've been climbing all day. It's beginning to give me confidence that I can do it.

Still got to line the curtains, though, but that will happen bit by bit.

I will get straight!!! I will get straight!!! I will get straight!!!!

[FONT=&quot]Keep that positive attitude, you will get there eventually, if I can do it anyone can, lol!

I think after following this thread for longer than I care to remember it is about time I joined in. :T

We moved to this house a year ago this weekend. Going from two bedrooms to four bedrooms it seemed quite empty at first! A lot can change in 12 short months and it's time to start getting rid of the stuff we no longer need.

I made a start yesterday with sorting out DS clothes and I am now going to shut myself away for a couple of hours to get things listed on eBay.

Wish me luck, I'll be back later!

Hi and welcome to the thread.

Yesterday morning OH came into our bedroom to find me, still in my dressing gown, sorting through some paperwork out of a storage tub and said I was obsessed with decluttering, lol, but he prefers the new 'willing to get rid of things' me to the old hoarder that I used to be, as he would chuck anything that's not nailed down given a chance, but he knows he'd be homeless if he got rid of anything without my say so, lol!

I still have some of the aforementioned paperwork to go through, but some of it is now shredded/in recycling bin. Also yesterday I binned yet another tatty pair of slippers, and a pair of trainers which had split across the soles.

  • At the tip there is a bin for cds and dvds - don't know what they do with them?
