Decluttering 2012, this year, definitely ...

Managed to get rid of 2 old quilts and 4 old cushions to SILs neighbour whose dog is about to have puppies - saves me a looooong drive to the nearest animal shelter, and they'll be appreciated! Also returned the flat-screen TV to Argos cos it was knackered (plus the sound was carp!) and bought a second-hand one from the charity shop - it's the size of a house but sounds much better!
Now to update the sig!0 -
I am back in for the day. Things have sold on ebay, it's amazing what people buy really. I still have a full box of stuff to go on so going to get listing some more. I've decided that buying my tablet was a mistake and hoping to sell it and buy the second hand laptop I should have bought!
I had a phone call to say I'm actually going back to work tomorrow so will have to declutter and post stuff after I get home from work.0 -
Hi
yes sure: photo paper and negatives contain all sorts of nasties chemicals etc they also contain things like silver, really they shouldnt be put into the bin but as facilities for treating this kind of waste arent readily available its probably the only place to put them. If the waste in your area is treated by burning - incineration plant its probably best as the heat from these plants are recovered for energy so less environmental impact (believe it or not) least env. impact would be reuse, or reduce - take digital photos and only print the ones you really want copies of.
We are heating our house with a wood burning stove in the living room which has a back boiler. I have hundreds of photos to dispose of. I presume for us it would be better to burn them than to bin them. Better for the environment too.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Finally got my self assessment done so am almost back to normal, well, if it wasn't for the markingKitchen is looking better - we reskimmed the walls and fixed the ceiling yesterday, so it's looking much better. Also took loads of cabling off the house too, so it looks less messy from the outside (we don't watch TV, so there is no point having an ariel and I managed to disconnect a lot of the defunct phone ports as well (there was a dead socket in almost every room - lots of different companies) and so have now fixed all the gaps. That and the window gasket changeover means the house is much less draughy now too which is nice

I have found this thread very interesting. I havn't been counting my items but an quite pleased with how things are going.
I am feeling alot happier to be in my room and feel more motivated.
So far this month I have:
Sorted and cleaned out from under my bed, got rid of loads of empty boxes.
Sorted jewelery and sent a bag to alzimers socitey.
1 large ikea bag to charity shop, also 1 bag of clothes with tags on.
10 items sold on ebay.
Ebay items packaged with old carrier bags and brown paper.
Got rid of 3 planks of wood.
Recycled old catalouges and magazines
Also throughly cleaned most of the house, including skirting boards and washed sofa covers.
Things left to do:
2 bags of stuff to gradually list on ebay.
Sort my wardrobe next
I have started a box of items which can be gifts to other people
Start making more things to use up my fabric stash
Choose new photos to print off for my walls.
I am going to have a small break until the ebay pile goes down as my wardrobe is contained atm, so it isn't urgent to get done. I also want to enjoy my space being clear, before I start more sorting and mess it up!0 -
I think after following this thread for longer than I care to remember it is about time I joined in. :T
We moved to this house a year ago this weekend. Going from two bedrooms to four bedrooms it seemed quite empty at first! A lot can change in 12 short months and it's time to start getting rid of the stuff we no longer need.
I made a start yesterday with sorting out DS clothes and I am now going to shut myself away for a couple of hours to get things listed on eBay.
Wish me luck, I'll be back later!0 -
ooooh i'm jumping on the band wagon rather late (and without having read the whole thread as that would be keeping me from sorting stuff for too long)
so far have
1. ice cube trays x2
2. old toaster
3. broken dustpan
4. recycling pile
5. replaced my bedroom light shade (finally) so got rid of the old
6. sorted out the bedside lights
7. sorted the old curtains
8. stack of old receipts
9. old candles
10. read papers backs to my sis
now off to read (well try) to read the whole thread...
see you in a week. :0)

Ooh - a first post, Pickles. Welcome!!! I only found this thread about a week ago, so I'm a newbie on here as well. It's great for keeping you motivated. It's scary how easy it is to let things fill up extra available space. We are empty nesters and having three spare bedrooms was great at first........but it was just too easy to 'dump things in there for now' and there was never any great motivation to sort things out. Now our son and his family have moved away and like to come to stay from time to time, we need a grand sort out. Hubs is decorating two of the bedrooms as we go that adds to the short term chaos but will be worth it in the long run.
Had another grand session this morning. Sadly came across a box with all the photos of our late grand daughter, bless her, and felt compelled to look through. Wish I hadn't...........0 -
