Sleep. Rubbish so far. I woke up yesterday to a score of 80 (lowest number in 'good') so thought I was off to a great start. Then last night I went to bed in loads of time to get 8 hours but woke up 3 hours and 53 minutes later for no good reason and didn't manage to get back off. That gave me a score of 59 which is poor and I feel completely knackered.
Weight I can't make my fancy Aria scales work. They're supposed to synch to my Fitbit and do all kinds of clever stuff. I can't even make them change from kilos to stones. I'm going to try again when I can be bothered, but if they still won't work I'll return them because they're under a year old. They worked perfectly well in spring so I don't think it's user error. It probably is though.
Ten NCD Zero so far. And not only that, I'm having to constantly fight urges to eat even more crap than usual because I know I'll be deprived tomorrow (although so far tomorrow has never come!). I'll give it a couple of days but I may need a re-think.
Nails I've noticed myself nibbling a few times and stopped, but I haven't bought the evil-tasting stuff yet and I won't be in a shop until Friday. Without that I think I will fail because I don't recall actually biting them for a few days, but my left thumb is bleeding so I obviously have!

Thanks Happy. Still trying with the tablet, and I'm the same as you - I like a proper keyboard. My laptop's a joy compared to this, but my favourite is my main computer. And I've brought the wrong charging lead - turns out they're not as interchangeable as I'd thought - so in order to get my daily Archers fix, this painstaking update is about all I can manage.

    Such a shame.
    Better is good enough.

Hi all - you’re all doing so well with the targets.
I’m splitting my Optimistic October into weekly targets - some of which will roll over. I can’t think a full month ahead :p
    Week 1
    1. Use my gym membership twice - done :D
    2. Loose or maintain weight - I really don’t want a gain. If I manage this it’ll be a first in my birthday week EVER
    3. At least 3 NSDs - on number 2 so far
    4. Reduce my screen time as I’ve got into bad habits whilst off work - so far so good
    5. Declutter my sideboard.....thought about it and that’s it so far:o
    January spends - £587.58

Perhaps you need to re-think the way you are approaching it. After all, 10 days over the month is only one day in every three so if you have one good day then you don't need to worry about the next two days. Alternatively, think about which days you think you could do it and which days it definitely won't happen because of things going on.

For example, I try and stick to weekdays for mine because it's impossible on a weekend. Also, I know that if I have family over or I am visiting family then it won't happen either. However, there are other days where I know I will be really busy cleaning or running errands etc and will have no time to think about eating crap anyway.

Another thing I have noticed is that if I have some fruit that I like nearby like bananas then sometimes that stops me reaching for the biscuits etc.

    Update for Tuesday & Wednesday

    1) To have at least 15 NCDs - Yes on Tuesday and no on Wednesday so got 1 NCD so far.

    2) To meal plan at the end of the week for the following week - All done for this week.

    3) Be in bed by 10.00pm and light out by 10.30pm Sunday to Thursday - Tuesday, bed at 9.30pm, light off at 11.00pm. Wednesday, bed at 9.40pm, light off at 10.35pm.

    4) At least 40 minutes walking during the day 6 days a week - Tuesday - 40 minutes done (4 x 10 minutes). Wednesday - 50 minutes done (1 x 20 minutes & 3 x 10 minutes).

    5) Deep clean the kitchen - Nothing yet and I'm beginning to think that this truly is optimistic with what I've got going on this month but I'll do my best.

I used to use a desktop all the time although it was an ancient old thing. Then my mum moved house and gave me her old Stressless chair and it changed my life. It's THE most comfy thing, and I sit here with my laptop on my knee, feet up on the footstool, a little table next to me for tea & chocolate and the dogs snoring at my feet. Bliss!

Hi Milann, good to see you again. I'm still reading through your diary and I'm up to July 19 now so almost in the here and now :D All good targets and I know I really need to join in with reducing screen time - so hard though, especially now the nights are getting darker, and if I'm not on a computer during the evenings I'm only watching telly, so not really that different.

Thanks for the sensible perspective Dolphin. I've taken note, and tomorrow will be my first NCD. I'm at work all day, so plenty of distractions and as long as I can ignore our tuck shop there's no reason why I won't manage. Plus it's Friday so when I get home I will open the weekly wine bottle which is a treat in itself. I stocked up the fruit bowl at the weekend in anticipation of eating kiwi, grapes and peaches instead of chocolate. It's all going a bit wrinkly now and I hate wasting food so that's another incentive.

Sleep. Last night was much better - 6 hrs 56 minutes asleep, with a Sleep Score of 82 - a low 'good'. I'd have slept longer but the alarm woke me for work, so hopefully there's still enough tiredness in me to sleep well tonight.

Weight Not played about with the scales yet. I hate it when things don't work. Normally Mr H is in charge of mending things but he needs to be in the mood and so far he hasn't been! Probably just as well because the NCDs aren't going that well.

Ten NCD Still zero but I've had a pep post from Dolphin and tomorrow's the day.

Nails Off to Boots tomorrow to buy the 'orrible taste stuff so hopefully progress will start soon. They are still stumpy and bloody.

Mr Bear's Huawei mobile phone charger fits and works in my Samsung tablet, so I've had a bit more time on it. Hmm. Still not a total convert and unable to do all the things I want to do, but it's progress. Went to Brussels today and had a guided tour of the parliament before spending a great deal more than we'd intended on chocolate. Christmas is sorted. Back late tomorrow and will post considered thoughts on Saturday.

Good targets everyone. Thanks for all your comments about my targets.

Seasidegal - well done on the weight loss. I will be interested to what you have to say about following a vegan diet as I have read some articles about how a vegan diet is beneficial to health.

Dolphin - you've got off to a good start. I share your thoughts on doing your best with the kitchen as I think I will try to do the same with my cleaning target.

Happy - everything seems so much better after a good nights sleep. There is plenty of time to hit your NCD target - good advice from Dolphin,

Honey - I prefer a laptop but I'm sure you'll soon get the hang of the tablet. Safe journey home.

Milann - a great start and yes, thinking about decluttering the sideboard counts in my book ;)

My targets - I have not got off to a great start as nothing for yesterday and I've completed a few hours in the garden today and nothing else. I'd say there is always tomorrow but I'm out most of the day so it's not looking promising.

Probably just as well because the NCDs aren't going that well. - We looked at getting one of these but OH wasn't sure about it and as we no longer use our fitbits, it's probably a good job we didn't get one as I believe that they are a tad expensive to be sat there doing nothing. Get Mr H on the job.

Ask Mr H to start pointing out when you are nail biting, it might help.
