Had an Email from my broker (think we did some sort of life insurance with them in the past), stating that they could guarantee to beat any price I was quoted by £25 a year. I gave them a call as my renewal is the end of this week and they have chopped my price of £31.24 with Aviva down to £12.67 pm, I was sceptical to say the least, but when he emailed me the quote over it was actually a better policy than what I currently have! They have a price beat promise, so they will beat the best price you have been quoted by £25 a year, but they have all sorts of extras as standard. Just going through the brochure now this is what I am getting for my £12.67pm:

    £1m buildings cover
    £60k contents cover
£6k away from home personal posessions cover
    £750 pedal cycle cover
£2000 outbuildings such as shed etc
    Legal cover
Trace and access cover (something to do with leaking pipes) upto £5000
and the best one £350 mobile phone cover (saves me another fiver a month when I cancel my phone insurance!)

No accidental damagae as I didnt want it.

The Company is called ChaseTempleton Ltd, the chap told me this was exclusive to existing clients, but for some reason non exisiting clients are being allowed to do this too. All I would say is try your luck, it may or may not work if you're not an existing client. Apparently this deal has been launched due to thier new rebranding which happens in a couple of weeks?? Whatever that means. He also did try and talk to me about life insurance and other things, but I said I wasn't bothered about that and he didn't push, so I assume this may be used as a loss leader to get to talk to folks about other things?

Just another bonus, he said if you refer someone you get £10 in Amazon vouchers.

Thier number is 08005837288, I spoke to someone called Steve, very helpful even though he said the word basically alot:rotfl:. I wouldn't mention the existing client bit just let them assume you are one unless asked of course.

    Cheers :beer:and don't forget my referal !!
  • I want to know what insurance companies will cover me. I currently have Nationwide and we're nearing the end of our policy and I believe Nationwide doesn't cover Rotties. We haven't discussed it with our insurance guy yet. I just tried Liberty Mutual and they won't process me (and they were so much cheaper than Nationwide!). I'm going to find some more places but it might be easier to see what fellow PA-ers have in case it not a big named insurance company that I know of.
  • I'm about to move into a rented flat and have been told that my contents insurance policy needs to cover accidental damage to the landlord's contents and fixtures and fittings. Can anyone recommend an insurer that offers this (many don't seem to) and is likely to give me a reasonable deal? Thanks!

We've recently moved from a rented flat to a house and thereby increased our possessions (a 2 bed flat up to a 3 bed house with garage means more space to fill!).

I have insurance for buildings from AXA at a cost of £200 for the year. This is unlimited cover for rebuilding (it's an 1850's detached house).

I also have insurance for contents at a cost of £126 for the year. This is for £16k worth of cover.

I pay monthly at 0% interest.

I've been good at checking around and used all of the comparison sites for quotes and they were all around the same as this or slightly more expensive. However, I've been thinking that £16k worth of cover is not enough now that we are in a house.

We don't have much in the way of electrical items (1 large TV, 1 small TV, 1 DVD player, a laptop, a Wii, a Digital SLR) but it is the other stuff I am concerned at. I have a large DVD collection (over 300 DVDs) and some nice furniture. I also have tools, etc, in the garage. Also, I should mention a lot of clothes (mostly my wifes!).

Now, are the kitchen appliances covered under contents or under buildings?

Is there an easy way to calculate the value of cover for contents? Is it current value or cost to replace?

Any advice would be welcome as I don't fancy finding out that I'm under insured!

    Cheers

Just renewed through Sheilas Wheels..4 bed detached ..Building unlimited.. goods £32000.. high risk £16000.. family legal protection £50000 and home emergency £600 total annual premium is £152
  • I hope this is the correct forum for this query. We have had building and content insurance with Direct Line for 8 years since moving to current home. As it has gone up by 25% in two years - and we have never claimed (since 1989 when we first purchased building and home insurance), we think this is too high. Unfortunately, our current property had some movement which we discovered two years after moving in. Previous owners laid a concrete path 8 inches thick at the side of the house which laid against the house and original pot gulleys, cracking them and leaking rain water into the foundations underneath the house, softening the clay and causing some movement. We had all drains and gulleys completely replaced and a soakaway around the whole property.

A structural engineer from our insurers visited and said that as long as all of the work was undertaken, then the property should be fine and not show further movement. Also they bore holes into the outside corners of the house to examine core samples of clay before and one year after the work was completed. The clay samples showed that the clay had dried out, and drains and gulleys were working properly. Six years on the bungalow is fine.

The only reason we have looked at getting other insurance quotes is because we feel the new premium of £475 is too high. Having telephoned a number of insurers we find that as soon as we admit to previous movement - even though there has been no further movement and the cause was specific and localised - and completely rectified, not really a subsidence fault but a problem caused by a faulty path, insurers won't even give us a quote, so we have nothing to compare our new premium to.

Does anyone else have any ideas to help or has anyone experienced a similar difficulty? Do any MSE's know of insurers who will offer cover under similar circumstances? Thanks to all.
  • Parents House Fell on my Car!!

I need a sanity check from you MSE's out there, please!! I parked my car on my parents driveway and some masonary fell off the roof during the start of the very hot weather this summer. My parents have both buildings and contents insurance, however when my motor insurers went to claim back my excess and to cover the cost of repairs, neither my parents buildings/contents providers would accept liability??!!

I received a letter yesterday saying that because the roof "showed no evidence that anything was wrong" and that the incident was "not foreseeable", then no "negligence" could be attributed to my parents; hence no cover??!!

Am I going mad?? I thought insurance was meant to cover exactly these scenarios??

Can anyone please give me advice?? Or at least help me to understand what's happening here??
  • Please everyone just because your getting a cheap price on your home insurance it doesnt always mean its a good deal. Always read the small print ie will you be covered if your on holiday even for a week some cheap insurance companies wont cover also what type of lock you have on your shed or garage. Some wont cover you you for any accidental damage please just read the small print, and phone the insurance companies you get a better deal and also ask as many questions as you like then!!
  • your parents will have two million pounds of owners liability on there home insurance that covers things like your car being damaged, a tike falling off the roof and injuring the post man etc
  • kitchen units and bathrooms covered under buikdings and appliances under contents 50,000 is enough contents cover for you unless lots of antique furniture
